SA Firefighter General / Re: Interesting Fire and Emergency Related Paging

When I attended my first incident it came over as a rcr the brigade captain did I ask if I was okay to deal with it.  Also we tend not to take young or new members to rcr if the details are sketchy or if not necessary.  I think the reason in our group is that people can listen in to the radios and if information is being sent then you can have people turning up on scene, which can add more problems to an incident.  A  brigade was called up by the media when the group officer was talking about a brigade issue over the radios

In our group no personal details are to be sent over the radios and also if there is a fatality and we need to send a sitrep then it is done by mobile phone rather than grn

why cut out resources from a fleet when they can be used in different areas by strike teams.  The areas where extra resources are allocated often have a high risk in terms of fire cover due to population, but with a higher population comes a higher number of people who would volunteer, so effectively creating a reserve army of firefighters would can respond to any area of the state and not drastically reducing the number of resources in the affected area

I heard that the diffs were damaged as the truck was driven home with 4wd still active, but currently it is still in station with a lot of do not cross tape wrapped all around it

It might not be worth while buying a new chassis as i know that 2 years ago the appliance spent time at Moores having its deck fixed after it snapped, and i don know how they fixed it, but our appliance had supported welded underneath so that might be a reason for not transplanted the back onto another chassis

Hs anyone seen the new prototype 24 in the flesh yet.  From the picture in infralog, there looks to be a lot of wasted space on the rear of the appliance by other positioning of the pump

What do you reckon about Eden Hills 24? If it was modernised, then i reckon it would make a reasonable 24p type appliance as it fits 2 ba, portable pump, extra urban equipment, has a crew deck and has a pto pump with pump and roll abilities

that would require a lot of reconfiguring asd jet exhaust has been known to be extremely hot, a slight disadvantage when travelling through dry scrub

AS has been shown by previous topics, many members have a wishlist for what they want on their appliances.  AS it is almost christmas, those who wish can place their list under the christmas tree and hope that they will receive one day

i do agree with building appliances that suit areas, but the cfs is goning to do so unless brigades build their own.  The lockers and crew deck can be modified to have greater locker area as has been stated by me before, but also the design doesn't include lockers that can be placed under the deck, perhaps we can wait for the appliance to be buiot and while testing it, see how much can be fitted in

regardless of where your station is located, a rural fire truck, whihc this 24 is should be able to deal with whatever rural fires it encounters as this applaince may end up in the outback, down the south east or the adelaide hills. Most brigades in the Adelaide hills will respond on strike teams whihc will take them to areas such as the fleurieu, KI or the upper south east where running grass fires do occur, which require a crew deck to fight effeciently.

It is a good point, looking at some of the 34s being produced, most have a 25mm outlet, so having a dead reel means that one person can begin attacking the fire, whilst the hose is removed from the dead reel and then hook in and pulled out etcetc.  The crew deck on this appliance is different to the tasmanian appliance as this design allows for attacking fire from both sides, while allowing for more stowage on the appliance.

I think that the leftside rear locker could be extended to the front end of the water tank for extra locker capacity, as currently drawn this area is a waste of space unless your as thin as a stick.  The crew deck should stay as a statewide fire service, these vehicles need to be able to deal with all types of rural fire suituations.  I agree that these sort of vehicle would suit the areas in the hills where more water is available and a smaller appliance is required.

Just wondering what is happening about the curries of these appliances as I know two were built and I only know of one being used currently at booleroo while their 14 is in Victoria.  Reading the latest infralog it states that more single cab appliances were being built, but I don't see why more of these are being built as they can be quite useful to quite a few brigades that I know of.
