Incident Operations / Re: house fire
« on: October 15, 2008, 03:12:00 PM »
Play nice in the sand pit kids. And please don't use language or terms that demean others.
If you have please edit your posts.

By all means make your point but do it using constructive well constructed sentences. You make yourself look fairly average when certain terms are thrown around. Think about it.....

There are better ways to make a point....

Now back to the topic.

The topic is about who got called - it's relevant to discuss who didn't. So long as it's not whining. A mature discussion is welcome.

On the topic of Salisbury CFS not getting a run...Did the chiefs not sign off on an agreement that said closest most appropriate resource?

At third alarm would it be reasonable that Salisbury CFS fits the bill. A truck from CFS is an appropriate structural resource and may have left a SAMFS station with a truck.

However it is difficult to reverse engineer decisions, the comms people may have made a strategic decision to leave Salisbury CFS out of this one to assist with covering other jobs....

Always two sides to a coin.....

Country Fire Service / Re: Grass fires from the crew deck

:x Keep it on topic. The topic of this thread is Grass fires from the crew deck.

Firefrog - all bitching and moaning from some asied in this topic. I believe the discussion re; urban/rural classifications is on topic, as it determines whether the crew decks are even on appliances....  :?

Yes - Agree as long as the point of the discussion on urban/rural is intended to support a discussion on the topic of grass fire attack from the crew deck....... :-)

All Equipment discussion / Re: Eflare Vs Powerflare
« on: September 25, 2008, 11:38:45 AM »
I haven't used the power flare, but I like e-flare. E-Flare is an Australian Company! Nice people. Constant research and development.

New Ultra bright Led's being tested. Used in a heap of applications across emergency services.

E-Flare even do a Helicopter landing site kit!!!!

My votes for E-flare.....

Happy to moderate if something is identified as hurtful or otherwise inappropriate. If it's meant as light hearted fun then all's ok......

Please let me know if there are specific posts which have caused offence.

Thanks

Country Fire Service / Re: not to go on roof
« on: September 14, 2008, 03:18:18 PM »
I've heard of the 300 mm rule - like to know where it is coming from as regulation Prevention of falls - Division 2.13 does not mention a specified height
(2) If—
(a) a person must work—
(i) in an elevated workplace from which he or she could fall; or
(ii) in the vicinity of an opening through which he or she could fall; or
(iii) in any other place from which he or she could fall,
and it is reasonably foreseeable that the person would be injured in such a fall
due to the distance of the fall; or
(b) a person must work in the vicinity of an enclosure or container into which he
or she could fall and there is a reasonable likelihood that the person would be
injured in such a fall,
reasonable protection against a fall must be provided—
(c) by the provision of a safe means of access to the workplace; and
(d) by the provision of secure fences, covers or other forms of safeguarding or, if
that is not reasonably practicable due to the nature of the work, by the
provision and maintenance of safe systems of work.
Now don't know about you but to me blanket banning working on a roof is just plain stupid - it is another knee jerk reaction by people who don't have practical experience in these matters.
If you want good information take a look at the "Prevent of Falls - Emergency Services" Guide book from WorkSafe Victoria. It has good practical information in it, Safework SA also produces a "Work at Height" book. Again this has some useful information.
It really filtered me off when people use OHS as a tool so tasks can't get done, I spend over half of my working day dealing with half truths & mis-understandings & it gives OHS a bad name.
Anyway thing thats all I have that is constructive.
cheers

Chook

Do you have web links to the work at height Guide Books???

Cheers

Just wondering what capabilities the Angle Park training area has?

Is there any live fire training? What exactly is there at present?

Cheers

We are checking a DNS server issue now! Looks like there is a problem with our hosts DNS records.

I wish I had known sooner that others could not get on , I initially thought it was a problem with my IP address being blocked somewhere. :x :x :x

Looked like a practical vehicle.

These things were awesome! Best fun to ride on and great quick attack trucks! Not very safe in a roll over crew seats had no roll over protection. A roll over would have been nasty!!!!!

Had some of the best fire fights I can remember on the back of one of these. 8-)

The particulate in diesel fumes is dangerous! All stations should be fitted with a powered exhaust system. IMO

Who asked you to remove them and do they have that authority?

Doesn't seem like CFS is in touch with younger people at all!!!

Mediums like the internet, you tube, face book, etc etc are how people are doing things. It's crazy to police these things when the service is losing volunteers like never before and desperately trying to retain people.

It's issues like these that add to the reason people throw their hands in the air and say it just not worth it......

CFS wake up!!!!

Let's not get into that topic :-P :-P :-P
