And don't forget there is a few BWC's going over to KI, once they are completed. Using Old CFS Appliances.

What about the adelaide plains\lower mid north & yorke penninsula, no tankers in these areas at all & very much needed.

Like captains who go to fixed alarms in their private vehicle with a portable who put a stop call on appliances responding.

We have a similar problem, Call for smoke siteing capt goes out in his own ute then stop calls us before we get the truck out of the station, God help us when he rocks up to one & there is a big fire

Similarly qualified MFS crews were stationed much closer – at Salisbury, Elizabeth, Angle Vale, Prospect and Port Adelaide – but were not called, the union claims.

Didnt know there was a MFS station at Angle Vale.
What gets me is why wait a whole year if it was such an important issue?

Well Dalkeith went (oh hang on they would be CFS Buggar)

Interesting that the union forget to mention the close by MFS country stations too. Like Kadina etc. Who are a lot closer than Prospect...

Not to mention Kapunda & Tanunda

Well all I can say is the UFU should get back in it's box, The Wakefield Plains group were commended on how the incident was run, there was ample resources Hazmat was Pt Wakefield, Nuriootpa, Dalkeith & of course Burnside (the ones I can recall)as for BA It seemed as though the whole region was there, the only problem I'm aware of was that the sole remaining BA brigade in wakefield plains grp who weren't responded were on standby for any other incidents that may have cropped up in the area due to all other BA brigades within the area were at Pt Wakefield weren't actually told that they were on standby how ever this was addressed internally by the group simple case is MFS obviously wasn't required other wise they would have been called.

Consider an area like the Barossa, hefty investment in huge infrastructure. Multi Storey buildings and extreme risk.

The nearest sky jet is at Oakden probably a solid forty minute drive to Nuri even with the assistance of green lights all the way. Surely a brigade like Tanunda, Nuri, Lyndoch should have appliances proportionate to the risk covered.

The risk should determine the appliances in stations not if the service providers are paid a wage or not. 8-)

Does that mean all country towns with concrete wheat silos should get aerials, cool place orders for Owen, Hamley Bridge, Balaklava, Tarlee, Mallala & half of the Yorke Pennisula send them with our tankers

Sarge you do need to get out more.

The Barossa has the highest rate of infrastructure development in the state. And has had so for the last 3 to 5 years. If you look at it realistically what is the long term economic loss to a community if a wheat silo smolders away and destroys it's self.... very little. When you assess a risk like those we are talking about (Not silos) the long term impact on the community  from an infrastructure loss (and the following consequences.. employment etc) the size of Orlando's or Fosters storage and packaging facilities needs a great amount of consideration.

One then begs the question, is it upto the government to provide fire cover (eg aerial appliances and large pumpers to boost sprinkler systems etc)above the BCA or should the government provide the resources to ensure protection / rescue of life that may be threatened by an incident within one of these large infrastructures and leave the company to deal with the fire protection and damage minimisation. You do not have to look to far to see those companies that provide an emergency response team and equipment to do just that.

And u appear to need a sence of humor, When we have trouble trying to get a tanker or a replacement for our old 24 do u think I would seriously believe that we would get an arial. Hmmm :-)

Are we talking surface area only or dose height come into the equation, I only ask because Owen station is big enough to house 3 large appliances yet tall enough to stack two large appliances on top of each other.

Red Truck, I have to agree with you that Hamely need a new station, they have approxiametly 25 females in their brigade- cadets and firefighters. Balakavia are "supposedly" getting a new station, a head of Hamely, yet they have facilities for both males and females, and they have locker space. At Hamely they are crammened in their little shed, one toliet, no wear to change, those are just the beginings of the complants that I know the members of Hamely have about their station.
[/quote]

Balak has only one unisex toilet and are ahead of hamley because they are group base and more importantly being eaten out by white ants. As for Hamley their main problems are location and lack of space

I had the oportunity to spend some time in hamely bridge CFS,  In my opinon they are doing it hard.  They need to move things around to squeeze in the trucks. Toilet  i feel they should have a new station.

Does anybody else think they deserve a new station additions???

I feel this could be a positive way to support some of our poorer cousins.

anybody think of any others???

They are getting one soon, They already have the block of land picked out

Last night at our AGM the Regional Commander turn up considering we don't get regional officers at our AGM unless invited. The captain, and the other officer from the look on their faces said concern and panic as this was an out of the blue. We did not have quorum and as a consequence we were told unofficially that we will be going down the path of having our operations suspended. His reason for taking this action was their are not enough volunteers living in the town and that our responce time were not up to scratch. What do they expect when you just cant get ppe, pagers or anything. What do they expect from small rural towns where the jobs are 60 km away yes their will be a delay if your employer will allow you to go. Where do you find volunteers when the age of the townpeople is hitting it mid 70's.

With the rant now over how well does this sit with concepts of project sherpa more importantly no advice was given in how to rectify the problem i.e. who to speak to or what tools would be available. How value do you think we now feel in the cfs as we are all keen to carry on. The captain is speaking to the members and what I feel is that their is more of resolve now to maintain brigade as we all still want to be members.
i think that is very sad to hear as there is alot of stations with the same problems but i think that it is disgusting to hear that they will probably shut you down is there another station to back you up in this time of need

If their group is like ours even backup brigades ar in the same boat.

Maybe the question should be "should the CFS look at putting on Paid staff to help or suppliment the vollies" (This will not take away from our Volunteer ethos)
