How many brigade appliances have these keys?? recently one of my clients had a fire alarm, local brigade arrived and they did not have keys so they had to force and break the door of the fire panel. When I spoke to the group officer about it he said he had never heard of these keys and that none of their appliances had any such key to open the panels or padlocks at any site's........Mind you this group as around 10 fire alarms in their area to look after.

Nope no keys, haven't been to an alarm yet where the panel has been locked, mind you anythings possible :-D

Have both sets of keys on appliances. All alarms I have ever been too require one or the other.

All Commercial Fire Alarm Panels are fitted with traditionally a 604 lock,and for booster boxes,hydrant locks were 003 keys,usually attached to the mains valve with a strap.
Some of the newer fire alarm panels also have the 003 key locks fitted.
All brigades with fixed alarms in their area should have a set of 604 & 003 keys, as this is the fire industry standard across Australia.

Have been sent as defult for a brigade for fixed alarm and all there Fire alarm Panel's need keys and yes we do not have a key. We even don't have keys for our own fixed alarm as it has just been given to us from the MFS.

Makes it hard to fill out the Fire Service Attendance Log Book then does'nt it.
Can I suggest you see your local locksmith and get some...very handy :wink:

Stupid question i know but all I would have to ask for is a 604 & 003 key is that right? As well as have proof of who I am and all that stuff.

Most locksmiths know what they are for and you should'nt have a problem but take id just in case.What brigade are you in? PM me if you like.

Are we talking the square keys that open the booster boxes?? If so got one of those! but a key for FIP boxes don't think we have one....

No not square keys for booster cabinets. They are a small normal looking key just for fire systems.

If you have keys for premises that have fire alarms, your 003 and 604 keys should be on those keys, but handy hint make them easy to remove so crews can have the rest of the keys for the building if it has several rooms/areas.

Hands up who does Fire Alarm Panel familiarisation.....you need those keys for that :mrgreen:

You can get these keys from anywhere, any hardware store that has keys, they don't need to be cut they already come like that.
All our appliances have them and each officer has them as well.

All our officers carry 003 and 604 keys in their gear, you may like to check that you get the correct 604 key for your panels though. I carry a 604 short and a 604 long - for some reason there are two variations and they don't seem interchangeable.

it is the same with the 003 key they come in a short and long I have only come across one 604 lock in the country and that is at a keith hospital the rest are 003 locks. I shall take a photo of the new alarm keys that the CFA use they are like micro key....

Our seniors and Station Officers carry these keys to access the boards as a lot of places ,the keys arent kept in the door of the panels. Onr reason for this is to stop people on site from playing around with the boards when the alarm activates. When they do this it can be difficult to figure out what circuit has activated. Have seen locks damaged on panel doors from people shoving screwdrivers and such in them to try and open them.

All our Officers have 003 keys on their uniform both long and short versions

Under the Fire Service Act it is unlawful for anyone other than a fire service representative to reset fire alarms once a turnout has activated.So nursing home,hospital staff etc HANDS OFF :evil:

i would assume that means Fire service personnel in uniform as opposed to a CFS or MFS member who just happened to have a key with them?

FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES ACT 2005 - SECT 135
135—Interference with fire plugs, fire alarms etc
A person must not without reasonable excuse—
(a) conceal, remove, damage, interfere with or obstruct access to—
(i) a fireplug, hydrant, booster or suction point; or
(ii) a mark or sign used for the purpose of indicating the presence or position of a fireplug, hydrant, booster or suction point; or
(iii) a fire alarm or signalling device for giving notice of fire or other emergency; or
(b) give a false alarm of fire or other emergency.
Maximum penalty: $5 000.

They are allowed to open the FIP and stop the bells from ringing,most hospitals/nursing homes when staff do there annual fire training get showen how to stop the bells and read the FIP but are reminded not to reset or touch anything else on the panel....

no problems with that at all.... as long as they do theor proper assessments and make the rest of the staff aware whats happening :)

With the amount of agency staff at some of these facilities on temporary secondment they can barely operate a security system let alone a fire alarm :roll:

That is why they have annual training
