All Equipment discussion / Re: Burnside Pumper
« on: May 21, 2007, 01:22:29 PM »
I do beleive someone from burnside has already told us why they don't want the type 2 in another thread.

I agree with them and hope they see it through, the only reason other brigades have accepted the type 2 is because they thought that was as good as they could get and didn't have the man power to research the right truck or they were brigades that just had to grab whatever pumper they could get their hands on because the trucks they had were way under equiped. Burnside has a truck that can still do the job while they aim to get what they need.

And no i don't think the type 2 is suitable for the CFS.

Yes that's what i meant, but CFS don't just go for the cheapest bid they then spend months screwing the builders down in price and asking if cheaper parts can be used.

The pumps and pump setup are exactly the same but your right they are more pumper orientated now with the better BA setup, roller lockers, 100mm suction hose etc.

Just out of interest why was the SES called and what did they do about it?

I thought you would just call transport SA and say come fix your bridge.

Here Here....

The main thing is they are good hoses to work with if you have the appliance to utilise it...

Yeah well we all think your great but it would be nice if you could actually write it in lay terms so that we can all learn something...

So what you are saying is if i set my pump to 1000KPA with 2 lengths of 64mm hose coming off 1 outlet with a TFT branch on full and then replace the 64mm hose closest to the nozzle end with a 25mm hose still with the same TFT branch on full there will be no difference in pressure at the tip?

« on: March 20, 2007, 03:17:41 PM »
Well i dont know about you but i thought when you force 64mm worth of water into a 50mm hole the water would have to speed up therefore giving you more pressure at the tip...

All Equipment discussion / Re: 50mm hose

What you have to remember is that MFS appliances have true High pressure lines which put out the same amount of water as a 38mm line therefore they just use H.P lines and not 38s. They use 50mm lines purely as a working length on the end of 64mm lines to make it easier to handle. Using the 50mm hose loses very little volume and increases pressure.

So in answer to your question no they shouldn't be on any other appliance other than a pumper.

Could they make the SEAFORD PUMPER bit any bigger, i like the small writing alot better.

Camo your right it does seem a bit like a last ditch attemt by cfs to make it look like Seaford at least have the appliances to cover the area...

For info also, if you are responded into MFS area and you default then MFS will not send another brigade because you are only a BONUS to the MFS response due to EMA boundaries. The only time they will send a default brigade is if you are specifically asked for or if MFS are short of appliances and you are actually replacing an MFS appliance.

Country Fire Service / Re: Should CFS be Paid For COQ?
« on: February 20, 2007, 12:16:29 PM »
There is now an SOP that an MFS appliance must stay in attendance at incidents in SAMFS area until all appliances including CFS have left the scene even at grass fires.

Every job i have been to in MFS area we have been catered for the same as we would at a CFS job and any change of Quarters i have been to we have been given meals at meal time.

Yeah i wrote about this in the other thread, maybe a 34P to back up MFS, their current 24 for strike teams and maybe a 14.

Cant see Morphett vale getting the Dennis as you would then have 2 x 2WDs next to each other being Happy Valley and Morphett vale.

They don't have to be related to the job we do it could just be problem solving and team building games... everyone can fill a 44 gallon drum with water from buckets in some sort of relay no matter what they are tained in.

Yeah you guys need to now really push your worth from a rural point of veiw, say have a 34 and 14 and if your lucky you might end up sharing a station with the MFS or something and just doing rural and strike teams etc.

Depends on the area, we attend alot of structure fires that are just 1 room or cooking on the stove so we use our PPV fan all the time.

« on: February 06, 2007, 09:38:19 AM »
You can get these keys from anywhere, any hardware store that has keys, they don't need to be cut they already come like that.

All our appliances have them and each officer has them as well.

All Equipment discussion / Re: Ordering of PBI Gold
« on: February 02, 2007, 10:34:12 AM »
When you look at it, sturt group don't go to that many going structure fires maybe thats why there was a lack of near misses related to heat and burns at structure fires. Our group attends alot and have had several near misses due to the nomex and lack of flash hoods, 3 that come to mind are someone burnt their knee entering a house fire when the carpet melted to their leg, even though there was no fire in that room. A firefighter burnt their neck from embers falling down the collar and someone burnt their cheek from radiant heat. All would have been avoided with the current gear.

Therefor our group have been pushing for better structural turnout gear and all firefighters have structure gloves and flash hoods.

We also have recently had someone get slight burns to the lower leg even though they had PBI on due to CFS not having structure boots and the heat from the ground radiating up the pants.

Not that i am saying PBI was the best answer but thats not my choice, atleast it's safer for offensive structure fire fighting.

I have attended several flow tests in and around our area with Max McAlister *spelling, and he said the biggest issue with the trucks is they need more inlets and outlets but he can't get that thru to tech services heads... funny that, nothing gets thru to them.

If you are boosting the biggest thing is getting alot of water into the truck so you can send alot of water out again but if you only have 2 inlets and 2 outlets your screwed especially in rural areas where the booster is fed by a tank and draughting is required. Thats where the type 2's come into play with 4 in and 4 out and the 125mm storz suction. And yes i have been to a school fire where we boosted with a 24P and the appliances at the fire couldn't use any more hoses because that would have overrun the supply as the 24P on the booster was at maximum capacity.
