Good idea about pinning up the pics at station. I know our Brigade has certainly had a poignant reminder! unfortunately it takes something like this to happen to remind people.

There is a story in the local paper, with a photo. Not relying on what the story said as often the media can get it wrong!!
With the risk of being hammered, here are the photos from Ozfire.

I was under the impression, that if STATE and more so REGION is at code red, that group bases are meant to be manned for the taking of alerts..

Any one that can elaborate ?

That's great if you actually have people that can man/woman the station during the day. Not sure about the COSO's and SOP's, appears the link on the CFS website is broken. Will have to check at station.

You would think they would contact the groups/brigades that have done anything about ordering PBI and ask them why they havent done so?

We're all adults here. Do Regions really need to chase people up on everything - they have done their bit sending the info to groups for dates of sizing etc. 'You can lead the horse to water but you can't make it drink'.

Ironically, the people (Tailem Bend's Captain's family) used to own the Meningie bakery before the TB one.
OK, seriously, back to topic now. :-P

Yeah, hope they turn out okay.

On a side note, Tailem Bend has the best chicken and chip shop in South Australia, just off the highway, next to the video store.  Always pull in when going down to Keith to visit fam.  Kat should know the one

You're right there!!!
Can't wait for footy season to start again so i can call in there more regularly (like every weekend) :-D

Ok, back to topic now........

No wonder stories are stretched! our local radio station - based in Murray bridge - reported that a SES vehicle was on its roof.

Best wishes to all.
For facts it may be worth tuning into Channel 7 news. RC3 was interviewed by them.

I'm from a smaller brigade with about 20 BA opperators.

I too am from a small Brigade - With 6 BA operators!!  We, along with the rest of the Group were fitted out last night. It took all of 10 minutes per person! Not sure if your troubles lie with Group or Region, but get onto it. As stated before, EVERY BA operator should receive the new PBI Gold under the Government 'gift'. God help the person who refused you this PPC when something goes wrong and questions are asked.

Incident Operations / Re: Grape spills
« on: February 24, 2006, 10:29:09 AM »
LOL

rumour on the GRAPEvine is that CFS will not be attending grape spills anymore, instead turning the caller away to police or transportSA (or presumably taking details and giving them to police/transportSA)

anyone know why?

Depends on how pedantic the Brigade/CFS wants to be. My opinion is many hands make light work.

« on: February 24, 2006, 08:30:19 AM »
what scares me more is that we can't get anymore GRN portables...period...don't make them, can't buy them etc...what happens if they start to fail..and we don't have enough NOW...

we didn't get our full roll out either...as we were the last ones...

Keep in mind that the GRN contract is almost up and CFS are looking at replacing all GRN's with a different model, and maybe digital. Although this won't be for 2-3 years prehaps this is why they are not issuing new/more equipment. :? Doesn't help us now tho

Country Fire Service / Re: Intruder alarms
« on: February 22, 2006, 12:03:51 PM »
Most alarms these days cater for at least 50 codes to be pre programmed, that way everyone has their own code. You can also get systems that have a data card which will then tell you who used their code and at what time and day. If the system is monitored the company can also tell you this. For those who like something fancy there is always the fingerprint option too.

Country Fire Service / Intruder alarms
« on: February 21, 2006, 01:44:05 PM »
Hi all,
Just interested to see how effective intruder alarms and or keypad access systems are in relation to a fire station. Of course this will differ from location to location. I see alot of 'Intruder alarm activated' type messages on the pager site, interested to know if these are genuine or just creepy crawlees setting the system off. Also, even tho the security systems are connected to the pagers, does this also alert Police via a monitored set up?

« on: February 21, 2006, 07:12:42 AM »
region one is the only region that does resource tracking with SOCC, and even then there are sturtr and kyeema group who do there own thing...

other regions occasionally go mobile on there regional tg, just as a notification to SOCC that they are responding, but will then immediately return to there local..

just a question to anyone outside R1... what happens if u go mobile and noone is at station, does your resource tracking get recorded somewhere? do you do resource tracking?

If no one is at station when responding then yes, comms are thru SOCC on Regional talkgroup or RHQ if SOCC are busy. Once the station is open the log is faxed thru.

No confidentiality here, our local copper (who i must say is a personal friend of mine anyway) quite freely gave me the name of said person, however i certaintly wouldn't sprout it all over town. I haven't even given any personal details to the Brigade.

Reegion 3 use Regional talkgroup. It's not for resource tracking tho, just to acknowledge page and get further details if required.

I'm with you on that one strikathird. If it keeps going off about  things that are not relevant to people they are more likely to sit it top of the microwave and leave it there.

Good idea the number plate thing. Because we had some new people interested, I think our local policeman was thinking along the lines of a pyromaniac or something.
