I just thought that was its call sign as it is plastered on the side.....
I'm pretty sure I've heard it referred to as that....any way so long as you get their attention.

Gilbert Group has got a tanker, im not sure PIP may be able to shed some light but I'm pretty sure this was a joint purchase between Rhynie and Riverton thus the call sign "Riverton-Rhynie Tanker". Tankers are scant thats for sure.

Country Fire Service / Re: More UFU crap
« on: January 26, 2008, 09:56:31 PM »
Maybe we should just surrender to the METS and have all CFS stations renamed MFS stations and manned 24/7 by mets, yeah and then all CFS voly's should where shirts thats say "I was a CFS member and I'm Incompetent".
That will make those UFU toss pots satisified.

P.S: All of the above is sarcasm!!! Dont take it personally...
P.P.S: I understand that not all mets are anti-CFS

A local bloke asked me and a couple of my mates if we wanted to join the CFS, we said Yes. Have been doing ever since and love it, it's pretty interesting to notice the change the longer you've been in the CFS fighting fires, learning new concepts like HOT SPOTS. On the first strike team I went on we were mopping up at the Burra fire and I figured that if it was red then that was all that was going to be hot, and I could feel my feet and boots were really hot, the captain came over and said "Squirt the ground" so I did and a cloud of dirt and steam came up.
You don't learn jack in the BFF1 course compared to what you learn out on the fire ground and that leads me to think of Region 1's policy of 2 years experience being required before your able to go on a strike team, I disagree with that mabye if its a going fire but if it is just mopping taking your newbies along can provide them with some invaluable experience.

In regard to the reason why I keep doing it, well I couldn't tell you, I like to think of my self as good at it and if your good at something then its worth doing also the people in the brigade are great and the captain continually thanks me for my efforts (I live closest to the station so I get there first call Adelaide Fire, Set the Siren off, make up an esky open and open the station up). Stop calls are enough to make a person want to quit that and other vols with big EGO's anyone agree?

SA Firefighter General / Re: Truck fire response, Yunta
« on: January 26, 2008, 05:48:55 PM »
I've been to Yunta before nice typical country town. They create their own electricity using a couple of giant diesel engines + generators and it has a weigh station and whole heap of electronic gismos for tracking over traveled trucks en-route to broken hill mostly. On the way up there I sat behind an explosives truck probably heading to one of the mines.  :|

Country Fire Service / Google Earth
« on: January 26, 2008, 11:48:11 AM »
I found this on Google earth it appears to be the burnt ground from the fire at Clare last season. Its interesting that the images would be so up to date...
Because in some places you can make out anything..

Edit: I actually used Google maps to find this and when I went and used Google earth there was some tags marked on the ground and they show images before and after the fire, they were photographed by Dr Gavin B. Sanderson which is interesting. Might be worth visiting other fire grounds via Google Earth and seeing if the same thing has been done....They say that bushfires are apart of Germinating new plants I understand that but you wouldn't think it prema facia. :)

« on: January 25, 2008, 04:50:50 PM »
Yeah definitely, not only that if they get responded at the call they can arrive at probably the same time as SAAS, either way it will cut some time of how long it is before they arrive.

The current set up is wrong, SES (If primary rescue) and CFS should have been responded at 17:58 as well...Its precious minutes counting by and more so if fire is involved...

I don't fully understand the CAD system, will this be resolved when its fully implemented?

This was a previous incident that has been remarked as an exercise....so something must have been really borked for them to need to review or re do their turn-out procedures or whatever it is, if you look back at the previous page(s) you will see what has led up to this.

It would be interesting to know what exactly went wrong.

SAMFS / Re: Paid Firefighters

Why then do a lot of people on this forum want to leave the CFS and join the "Mets", one reason only......money

I think you overly incorrect in saying CFS people join the Mets because of money, I think you will find that they want to join so they can fight fires, help the community and be with people who share the same firefighting passion more often....not to make money.

If your approach to firefighting is "YAY I'm getting paid for this" your probably going to wind up dead very quickly.
