"lost" ?? broken? or actually missing... lol

on a side note, i believe a combined crew from Blackwood and Concordia ran an 800m plus line off of Blackwood 24 to black out during a night shift at Humbug Scrtub.... that would have been just as much fun pip.

Fire Fighter Training / Re: Emergency Driving/Traffic Control course

we received some training, in our group a couple of years back from SAPOL...

gave us an accreditation in "traffic marshalling".... apparently to 'officially' conduct traffic control this is required.

personally i think it looks a bit daft...

but anyway, i think its more of a staff uniform for staff in the field in ops roles & IMT...

i dont reckon many (if any) vollies are getting it....

i think its 3grand per hour,,,

and heres some interesting trivia.

apparently for it to travel from adelaide to pt lincoln it would take 6hrs and require a stop on the yorke peninsula to refuel.

even the ones that chase fires from the back of the truck... admittedly it is faster, but sometimes a compete waste of time.

at the onka gorge the other day, witnessed a crew doing this, but they were flipping hopeless, it just kept on reigniting behind them.... waste of time and water really.

we get out there and black it up however the IC has requested...

People that say this haven't spent much time on grass or cropping land. Some running grassies can't be stopped any other way! It's just another tactic that is available there is no right or wrong tactic. It's the OIC's choice which method of attack is used.

I have seen grassies running so fast the appliances can hardly keep up. How can you a use the off the truck method in this case? Crews that are well trained and understand how to fight from the crew deck do a fantastic job. There is a right and wrong way of fighting from the deck. I am talking about knock down not mopping up. :-) And I agree that mopping up done from the deck is less than adequate in most cases.

people that say this didnt read my post very carefully

so do the brigades attend the incident (where it was said to be) if the wrong location was given like the example of the mva @ murray bridge???

eg... does mt barker go to the adelaide side of the freeway looking for the mva, then murray bridge goes to the freeway???

i daresay barker would turn around and head toward murray bridge, considering they are already on the road.

thanks for backing up my point that fire ban advice had not been issued, and better yet fire bans had not yet been declared at the point in timethat the message in question was sent  :-)

another special message below;

21:12:18 07-12-06 To all FF. , Next 2 days total fire ban. , 2 App to respond all calls. , From SFF Hammond

it may be all well and good to presume it may be a fire ban on certain days... but at the same time saying that they are is stupid.

just one of those annoying things.

leaving the appliance behind.... hate it. our appliance that we take on "short" strike teams, is not the sort that anyone can just go up to and now how to work the ins and outs of it..

also hate getting there and sitting at a staging point for 1/2 an hour while its bloddy obvious where we should be and what we should be doing... (for example; watching a fire burn unchecked over a hill towards vineyards...)

i was talking to one of our officers whos also from the MFS.

he told me the introduction of incident numbers into MFS response paging is an update to there system, allowing easier referencing to MFS jobs for upgrade requests, MSGs, etc... rather than calling in and saying "the grassfire near bobs place" or whatnot...

i didnt say they shouldnt be listening as in its illegal....

the issue i see, is the public listening in, hearing half the informtaion or misinterpreting information and then going off to "assist" or jkust have a lookand getting themselves killed..
