Time to start doing entrance exams when starting SAFF accounts.

Jesus don't do that, most of the people of here would be sent back to year 9 at school for Maths, Physical fitness, and English skills.

Yeah Army_Emergency_Responder why aren't you old and arthritic like all the CFS crews. Huh!!! Why aren't you petty, fat and only for traffic duty while the Professional Emergency Services- SAMFS and SAAS work??

Yeah you could be young, keen and motivated as you probably are... or you could be SASES or SACFS and as useless as a Pussy in the Mars Bar.

Btw he is actually right.

Ah different company to one i'm thinking of. I did a course with one and it felt just a week of sale pitch for the system hardware and software they were selling...

And they don't work over 150 feet... rang last week to see... kinda weak with a turbine over 80m

Just wondering cause when i drive up to the mines i've seen them training on the turbines... would be bitch of a rescue though.

Theres a lot of companies... two in the foot hills, and of course those that work only at Roxby.

Who does the training for the Turbines in SA>?? Local company or Interstate one?

I mean as who does the turbine training could teach the cfs and ses and mfs etc who ever responds... ie closest

You can't use helicopter to rescue of turbines... it was someones idea who really didn't have any idea!..

Yeah i saw some people working on the comms towers at mt lofty the other day... fairly cool.

I was driving down near lonsdale today and there was a training company with a logo like mfs doing training on the REALLY big tower... looked like fun

But realistically what are their chances of doing it properly as i know that STAR group do diddly squat training to do with heights these days... too busy looking good in mirror

In the hills face zone, hills proper and country areas there are huge comms towers and silos.

Who is responsible for resucing people off them? Do SASES or SACFS have a team that is trained for work at that heights?

Drove up near the hills near Belair and saw the tower there... can any cfs or ses personnell work at that heights??  :?

Who practises that type of rescue?

6739264... oh so true... the only way you get something in the fire/rescue that fits/works/is comfortable is make/alter/ or break and glue together how you want.

although stewart and heaton have a new torch mount... really adaptable, and can be enlarged or reduced to fit different makes. we got one for the week to try... nothing worse than having to hold torch whilst trying to change hydrants in the dark!

For the best prices call Fire Rescue Safety Australia in either Perth or Brisbane... so so much cheaper than anything local and they know all the different ones due to mines all having different ones... we bought the Drager HPS 6200 for work and they sourced a bracket for us... TBH in SA there only a select group of helmets, any after market stockists should know all the mounting options depending on use straight away without having to take your helmet to them...

the wonders of the internet to browse...

The building fire safety officer position has been vacant for over a year now since Max left. It's been advertised three times with no adaquate takers.

SA Firefighter General / Re: Vic Bushfire Inquiry - Sirens
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:38:14 PM »
From a non fire fighters point of view... People tend to thing along the lines that a the SACFS will save their home or that sprinkler system will prepare them... It's a filtered arrogant thinking line. The Belair SACFS is starting to use their siren after intense pressure from local residents and MP's.

I have to agree with bittenyakka 100%, about the wishy, washiness that no clear policy. Yes its hard to define a clear line as a stay and go policy is the current policy... but.

Also Bill is right on with his comment about the arrogance of the populous. But common sense has to prevail on such days where the risk of fire is so high. If the polulation don't have the common sense to prepare their property and realise that on such days their is a risk of fire... then well SACFS, CFA, RFS etc shouldn't be held responsible or blamed for deaths.

Not wanting to be derogatory or insulting, but... the majority of rural fire fighting services are voluntary, their members are voluntary and the majority of officers have risen from the voluntary ranks. Thus i do not see as a member of the fire industry and a citizen that if their are deaths that the SACFS should be held responsible. If people build homes in the middle of the scrub, they're asking for some serious trouble.

Phone systems don't particulary work. I live in Unley and i have shite coverage and my girlfriend lives in strathalbyn and she has virtually no coverage, unless a phone system is sat to sat phone... there will always be holes big enough to drive a pumper through. Sirens will only work if they are embraced by the locals. Main problem with Belair siren is that the majority of the peole living there will complain about the siren...

We wonder ourselves cause we boost to higher pressures, and to higher flows for longer time and they have never failed. We use them on booster suction, training hose, and we pressure test the hoses quarterly to stupid pressures and they've never failed... and to be honest they're abused cause they get bashed into metal boxes, left in the sun.

You know who the supplier is... go look at them, the SACFS should feel lucky that the cfs isn't just supplying them with the same equipment but looking around for improvements in equipment ie non conductive halligan tools, acetal couplings, improvement PPE.

The other to put this is... we in my company have the authority to buy what ever we want in respects to equipment. Acetal isn't the cheapest, but we still buy it, hell i got a pallet load of it in front of me at the moment. It isn't cheap chinese crap, its made in south Australia.

Moderators i know i ain't suppose to do this but for the benefit of a south Australian company and the people on here... http://www.hydroflo.com.au/products/fittings.html And Bill they're right down the road from you... go to talk to him and see why we like them so much.

Like most new things they take awhile for people to stop being afraid of them. The SAMFS are looking at fazing in a few on trucks for evaluation and with the SACFS getting the adaptors from storz to safb its gonna become a staple on the truck...

Firstly they're not plastic, they're acetal... as strong as metal, and wont fade, i got a set of them sitting on the back of my ute and have been there for over three months. Bill if you in the fire industry you know who sells them as do i... he wouldn't sell them if they werent top quality, we use them to conduct flow tests using a massive trailer pump that can create flows of up to 10k litres a minute... not that there many get pushed that high and they also hold pressures fine perfectly fine up to 3000kpa. we also use them for training through the training  group and they are sold to many sites due to the lighter weight, and durability... metal when dropped get hair cracks, this doesn't we've tested it and scanned it. Brass... thats way too heavy to use and hardly anyone buys them now... only stock left are early 90's.

Not trying to sound holier than thou... but the acetal couplings are excellent, embrace them.

yeah we thought was a bit odd, but exceeded the metal couplings so we like them. Will be good to see how they go in the SACFS. We purchased the same metal couplings from a company in adelaide and we also bought the acetal (the plastic ones) and we cant tell the difference other than the acetal are lighter and have survived being dropped in a diesel fire... (slipped out of apprentices hand)

I can guarrantee you that the black plastic will outlast the metal or alloy. lighter, more durable. We use them up here for testing and training, and they get hammered big time. Are the SACFS get the ball bearing version? (spin on alot easier, only need RP7 once a year to lubricate) They were made by a company in the south east... so beats buying couplings made in china or taiwan... support the local businesses

1.What does the SACFS and SAMFS do with their old appliances? are they auctioned publically, Tendered,to the angle park grave yard to dissintograte or just not sold?

2. Whats the price of a half descent pumper? We want one for work for testing

Do people in the CFS wanna do walk throughs like the local mfs units do in town of all their areas to sites at all? Cause im sure the industry would be willing... even the company i work for even though they're multi-national would probs be willing to do walkthroughs. If not for the systems then to check what loads eg flammable and explosive so you know where they are in emergency...?
