Title: Commissioning fire appliances
Post by: mengcfs on December 08, 2008, 10:08:16 AM
Hi all. Just some general discussion on what Brigades have done in the past to commission thier new appliances and how many Brigades actually do this. We are commissioning our 34P on Australia Day.

Usually it involves a large ream of paper, a pen and then spending hours listing all of the faults with your new appliance and then countless hours arguing/discussing it with V&E, enjoy!
Or you could just accept it and live with the faults after ensuring all the correct stowage kit is on board and all members have become familiar with the nuances of your shiny new white truck!

Been there done that (ours is a Mills Tui build). I was more referring to the actual ceremony.

With previous Units, the new vehicles were a cause for celebration.

So a BBQ was organised during an evening or afternoon.

The local government, employers, volunteers, some paid staff, local media, business supporters and family were invited.

A formal ceremony was conducted with the keys being handed over. You maybe able to request employer certificates to be presented at that time.

The rest of the LHQ was open with static displays and people floating around to answer questions. This could involve a historic vehicle so comparisons between old & new can be seen.

Some fun demonstrations could be organised (we had a competition course to run between two groups or single participants being timed, but the kids were part way through the course armed with water balloons).

Good excuse to get some team building fun and thank your brigades supporters (esp family & employers).

With the state of some of the builds that have come out recently Bill you've got the priest performing the wrong ceremony...........I believe the correct ritual for those trucks would be the last rights! :-D
