Women of the Fire Industry / Re: Female Firefighters in the Media

people do nto give a damn who rock sup in the truck did ya read the letter from someone in yesterdays paper they wrote in that they did not care if the firefighters that rocked up were anglo saxon, asian, abboriginal, female or green martian.  As long as the job got done.
-----------------------------------
Basically no one cares.

Equal Oppurtunity should be just that Im sure if a female could do the job properly she would get in same with asian, abboriginal or martian.  Plenty of Anglo Saxon males fail, MFS has a pass rate of about 8%, if ya good enough ya get in.

Scenario

Perfectly capable firefighter who is female sitting at home thinking "I wouldnt mind being a firefighter"  then she thinks it is such a male dominated area and she wouldnt get much of a chance.  Said female goes back to watching tv.  A few days later Miss Smith see's that Mt gambier MFS has a good percentage of female firefighters she thinks cool I wont be the only one in a male dominated area.

Its good the media do say that stuff cause it helps people and encourages them to join so they know they wont be out of their ocmfort zone.

But you go to MVA's at 2am when its filtered cold and wet and stand around waiting for cars to come so you can tell them to go a different way.  Id rather be paid to do that than sit in a station that at least has heating or air conditioning waiting for a red truck.

maybe 5520 applicants didnt have the required forms and certificates etc or their resume's/ cover letters made it appear they were not cut out for firefighting.

How'd you go loopy?

Criticism of other emergency services should probably go in the members forums so the public dont get the wrong idea.  Weve all had good bad great horrid times with other services.

you laugh sarcastically then stop suddenly showing them ya middle finger.  Or you say have I shown you what CFS vollies do reach into ya pocket and pull ya finger out with middle finger extended again going "ooooooooooooooh ohhhhh ooooooooohhhhh."  Or just tell em to Get F'd!

Well okay bit immature but it works sometimes otherwise just go higher or speak to an accomplice of the harrasser or someone above them.  Or go to the union they should be able to help.

Country Fire Service / Re: Burnover Training
« on: January 24, 2007, 08:31:18 PM »
People are forgeting that burnover training isn't the only important training you need to do pre fire season, Deadman zone training is just as important as burnover training, if you can understand the concept of wind speed/change + slope + fuel loading, anchor points etc, you shouldn't find yourself in a position where you need to use your burn over training. Not saying that burnover training is not important,it should go hand in hand with deadman zone.

What we do is watch the Deadman Zone video thn go out and do the burn over drill.  thought that was what was meant to happen...

« on: January 24, 2007, 08:26:51 PM »
You never know.  There might be nothing wrong with the Dennis.  Its just the Mt Barker brigade mistreated it so much that it didnt wanna play ball.

No, that might be true, to an extent.  I would assume Barker didnt "mis-treat" it but maybe it required extra maintenacne than the normal that is done to CFS appliances and also they do a lot of job and Denis would ahve got used a lot so extra wear and tear.  Maybe at a smaller ststaion it owuldnt have had so many problems.

MAYBE is the key word

... About a fire company (think FDNY) ...

Negative, 3000 Degreeds AKA Fire Trap is about the Worcester Fire Department and the WOrcester Cold Storage fire.  Some nasty stuff went down there.
