All done too, it interesting to see how many people I got wrong with trying to pick were they came from.  The Alias is my brigade nickname, got it by allowing a rolled up foresty 38 to roll back down a large steep hill right past the person who just carried it up to me. :-D

No your computer is not playing up I've lost the site too and was wondering the same thing.

This is one of the rules in the act I believe should be changed to allow for absentee voting.  If for some reason you are ill or called into work you do not get any say in who your officers will be, and as they will be in charge of all people I strongly believe everyone should be given every opportunity to vote.

With only one or two peaople not being present this may not alter the end result but six votes may!

Exactly how it can be done would require investigation and maybe even a change to the voting system completly.

What are other peoples thoughts on this, or is everyone happy with the current set up.

I am part of the Barossa group that includes Lyndoch.  I am not aware of any SOP detailing this amount of info needing to be sent out.  I understand the only messages required are for extra crew, stop calls and the occasional update for large incidents.  This last one aids in giving people an idea if they need to be going to the station when they finish work or if everything is under control.

It is protocol to advise GO's and DGO's of appliance returns.

We do notice it alot with Lyndoch thou, maybe they just enjoy the sounds of the pager to much

ALL Rescue / Re: Holden VE Commodore battery

Our brigade managed to procure a shell of one of these cars recently to cut up and found our equipment came up short.  We run Holmatro 1000 gear and it wouldn't touch the high tensile steel, so no more cutting 'B' pillars for us on these.  I believe the Mitsi 380 has a similar set up.  Had the local Mets boys up a couple of weeks after that with their Holmatro 2000 gear that got through with lots of sparks and noise.

Having said all of this the whole set up works very well, had an incident involving a VE head on with a combined speed of 160k and all 4 doors still opened.

Cheers

Would have been a bit frantic lucky they have 3 trucks, dunno how easily they can man them all on demand tho.....

I was down the road yesterday from their station, it took them alittle while to get them out but they did and all looked fully crewed.

Thanks for all the replies, it's nice to know I was correct, have to see if I can get an ale out of this now.

[/quote]We don't require arrival messages or sitreps unless a station isn't open, in which case we'll put the info in crimson. What we definitely don't want to hear is 'returned to station' and other non incident related stuff.

Comms, Understand the first part, however as to a returned to station message this directive was given to the brigade about 3 months ago by the captain, I'll have to investigate where he got it from and let you know.

Chain Of command information "brickwalls" occuring??

HQ(planning and comms) > R6HQ > Group officers > Brigade Captains > Brigade Members.

Just watch out for the "chinese whispers" game.

Can someone in the know please answer a question thats been a hot topic in our brigade over the last couple of weeks.  If our 34 attends a call, eg grass fire and logs into Adelaide fire that its attending does that put our 24P off line as well, or do Adelaide Fire still recognise 24P as being an available resource?

Cheers

As a kid growing up living on a main road I regularly watched the fire trucks heading out on calls, great buzz it was and always got a wave from the firies.  I also had a scout leader who was in the local CFS and he in the end was the main factor in me joining.  Unfortunately there was no cadets so I had to wait till I was 18 but was at their door the next day.

21 years and 3 brigades later Im still there, still get the adrenaline rush when the pager goes and as many of the other have said really enjoy the comradery of the brigade and the community support, especially the interaction with the kids.

Will probably keep on doing this now until the joy has gone or they put me in a long wooden box. :-)

So the question here is, is something going down somewhere that the news hasn't picked up on, or is someone just being very efficient in their pre-planning?

Alot of our brigade members got caught out last year with this exercise, we included a command car into it to get the group officers through the training as well.
All of the exercise went well, however after doing the check over the truck no one bothered to check the command vehicle, including GO's, BTO declared it lost.  :-D

Emergency Vehicles / Re: TTG old RFW 34

When I was at the Gully it was always known as Battlestar, I was told it collected its name when a call for help was placed and out of the smoke and over a hill came this very large and well lit fire truck (back then it was, compared to other vehicles).

Now this may be legend or fact I don't know, it occurred before I joined, but it's a good story anyway.

I do know however, that at it's first re-fit the brigade did consider placing 'BATTLESTAR' above the window, but rather than just doing it they asked permission and it was declined by state HQ.

Yep totally in favour of the 'oxyviva' kits.  Also believe at least RCR brigades, esp those more remote, should carry 'defib kits' alot of work places carry them and they are so easy to use, I was introduced to them at the last first aid course I did.  Speaking of that I also believe everyone should be senior first aid trained.

Mattb you raise some good points regarding the extra work load of volunteers.  I recently transfered brigades. At my old brigade almost the entire workload was done by active members.  In the brigade I have joined now alot of the non operational roles eg Admin and Finance are carried out by Auxillary members.  As I understand it this is not a requirement of the brigade, any registered member can stand for these positions, but it does allow the active members to shed the work load alittle.  Also as these positions are filled by active members family it encourages good relations and understanding of what we do.
