just to clear thing up, so that this post can get back to ammusing pager msg's...

yes, i leave school for almost any call, depends if we have crew for the day or not... during tests i will not respond unless it is absolutly nessecary, ie. second page, i have spoken to all of my teachers and the yr 12 co-ordinatior about it and they are fine with it.

NOW. Bck to the pager messages!

Just did my rcr coures a couple of weekends ago, we did not manage to get a single windscreen out!!!

We got told that we should tru to work around it, unless it is a H - mould, where you can just cut it out with a stanley knife.

If it is one of the ones that is glues in you can sometimes cut around it with a draw knife, but it is rather time consuming. and if the glue covers too much surface area, you amy need to use a screw driver to finish the job.

When working around it, the best way to do it is with a forward roof roll,
(cut B, C, D pillars, relief cuts both sides 10cm back from A pillar, and fold forward using crowbar to make crease in roof.)
or use an a-pillar lift to free legs from entrapment. (cut throgh Apillar complety just above sill level , cut a-pillar again just above dash, cutting through windscreen, open bonnet and cut relief cut in fender "c channel", cribb under sill inline with a-pillar, spread lowest cut on a pillar so as to lift the dash up and out of the way)

just remember your soft and hard protection!!!

One good way is to just avoid it completely, just cut all pillers including the 'A' piller and fold the roof forward on the windscreen and it will usually just pull out and you can then take the roof away windscreen and all....

just my opinion, but i would prefer to go for a forward roof roll... less chance of roof being drepped on casualty/ambo/anyone, same number of cuts, and windscreen remains in tact, obriously it may be impossible if it is car vs tree/ stobie head on, but in that case i would still prefer to halligan across the entire roof to keep the screen intact

i always laugh when my pager goes off for that one, because it is my school, so i have to leave school, jump on a truck and then respond back to school.

ohh, and they never evacuate when the alarms go off, which is annoying

School is great when it comes to fire calls, its just funny when i am actually responding to a private alarm at my own school during scholl hours...

Work is OK with it, there is an emergency services clause in my EBA that says i get paid for any time lost on presentation of a note from my oic. I generally dont leve during work hours though, becase I supervise 6 people and there is no one else to cover me. As for stike teams and large incidents i tell them that if they dont let me go i will resign, and it works!!!

when i say 4wd i dont mean full on off road 4x4, i mean so that it can better handle rough dirt roads, at a minimum it would need a lockable rear differential and some sort of upgraded suspension, mabey even an air suspension cabin like they use on prime movers would do the job.

2000L works well, half the time you are just using HP lines... which are only about 270LMP max (i think)

As for a monitor, i say spend the $$ on better rescue gear, and just get a pad monitor. are you really going to want to put your truck that close to something requiring a monitor, and remember it is gong to be a PTO pump, so no pump and roll capacity!!,

dont forget i think SAAS are on in it as well....

So  MFS/CFS/SES/SAAS in one big building...i reckon they could fit in a 3 x 2truck bay station...and probably on the Land that SAAS already occupy...

The land i was talking about being purchased is at seaford...??? sorry i went a bit off topic, but in my defence, i was defending my turf.

I would be more than happy for a CFS/SES station at seaford!! to tell you the truth i would probably join SES., it could work really well, or could go horribly bad.

4WD would be nice, Needs big engine, BA seats, Air Cond, BIG 3 stage midmount pump, Auto gearbox. air conditioning, and cup holders

The only person higher who is not in the CFS/MFS/SAFECOM is the Minister for Emergency Services, who reports to the Premier.

you just hit the nail on the head... she didnt say the exact words, an MFS station will no be going in... but she told us that they had researched and that it will be required in the future and that SAFECOM has purchased land... i was led  to believe that it was found that it wouldnt be feasible (yet)

In my opinion, the issue with Part time staffed CFS/MFS/SAFECOM stations is what this would do to the brigade moral.

I can tell you, I would not be showing up duiring the day if i know that there is a team of paid firefighters that are more than capable of doing the job waiting to go. I think we would be much better offering incentives for the current vollies to   turnout more often, eg. CFS retained style system, paid part time for time spent at calls ONLY. Providing funding to employeers that allow worker to leave for firecalls. actually listen to vollies in terms of what they want (if burnside want a scania, give them a scania - dont just play the copout line of "the funding doesnt allow it" we work for free for F&*^s sake!! If people are physically and mentally apt to undertake training - let them, if they are old enough to see dead bodies at car accidents, why cant they participate in a BA course???

The main thing i have againt the type two's is the fact that they only have one REAR MOUNTED hose reel. Even the Dennis has two... the other thing i dislike is the fact the the pumps are completly electronicaly controlled, and the positioning of the inlets/outlets. Midmount pumps are much better suited in urban pumpers IMO!! It woul also be nice if CFS chose a cab that could house BA seats, as they make the donning up process much, much quicker!! I understand that the reason for not implementing half of these features/functions is $$$, but what is the price of a life??? If someone dies in a burning car because you only had 1 HP line that you could use imediatly instead of two, the cost of all  cfs urban pumpers having two HP lines is well and truly justified.

JUST MY OPINION!!!

I think (hope) camo is refering to 24P going to YAHL with his too good comment...

The dennis went to the commercial fire this morn, but didnt get used like i would have liked it to... as we were on the second response, the fire was contained by the time we got there. The BA seats came in handy for our opperators...its great when you can tell the METS guys that you have BA crew donned up ready to go before your crew even get off the truck...

I vote dennis...

Im surprised happys wern't called for the ICA fire this morning though, as the would be a similar distance as us, and also have an urban pumper...

IMO the dennis has treated us very well, it hasn't missed a beat...the three month trial period is almost up so we (as a brigade, not management) have to make the deciscion to keep it or not.

i dont think the problem with the priming would have been fixed, as it took over 6 weeks to get it fixed in the first instance, and it still had probs. if anyone can get pics of it lined up with all of stirlings other appliances it would be cool,

it is a good truck, it was just a bit slow... and the lack of dual cab annoyed people (the dennis is better  :evil:)

To the boys at stirling, make nsure you prime the pump as soon as possible after starting, preferably before... it has an intermitent propblem where it gets an air lock in the pump... im nots sure if it still has the note up on the crew deck saying that... any other questions just ask!!
