24-02-13 18:51:21   BKWD INFO: Special service call - 22 blackthorn Ave Hawthorndene - medical treatment required with Oxyviva - CPT - CFS Blackwood Info

Is that normal?

It's not completely uncommon in that area to see them doing that sort of thing.
Thankfully I noticed SAAS had responded crews to that same address approx ten minutes earlier.

Certainly seems to be outside of SOP. I presume it may have been a family member or friend though, so a bit hard not to get emotionally involved.

Although contacting comms and organising a response still would have made more sense.

You had a car accident reported to you, and you failed to take any action?
Interesting in itself.

Really?? If it had already been reported and the ambos called why would they need to
Take any action? If they wernt called probably a fair chance it's because they were not required!

Hah.
What a joke.

An incident reported direct to a manned fire station is no different to a 000 call.
Of course they should have acted.

Cheers BigAl

On this, yesterday, we were about to start Cadet training, when one of the parents notified us of a crash that'd just happened up the road (were told car A crashed into car B at around 100km/h). So we decided to wait around just in case we were called to it, we heard SAAS turn up (If I'm correct around 4 Ambo's turned up).
Neither us, nor Aldinga (RCR) were called at all.

Are SES trained in HLO procedures like CFS have been?

Is watching a 15minute DVD really training?

I just noticed the website (for the first time)

not from Sturt Group then?

R2 cancelled though and then R1 asked later? Not sure which resources have actually gone but seems odd. Would be interested to know the full story.

Sounds like it ran well.

Your obviously from Sturt Group MrTeddy. How do they go getting approval from the CFS to record and then re-broadcast GRN voice?

I know there are plenty of online scanners out there, but considering the carry on with social media, i am suprised that a seemingly official CFS website is doing it.

Blackwood 24 CAFS and Eden Hills 14 CAFS both on KI for a 3day deployment left on Sunday
Also saw Tea Tree Gully looking for a crew for their 14 so i would imagine that's there as well?

That's correct.

No media releases from CFS other than advice or warning messages that I have seen. Therefore no media coverage.

But I think the donkey whooping might refer more to the pager message itself. Someone is going to get the Chief Officers size 11 firmly implanted in their gluteus maximus for that one.

What are they gonna do... dock their pay?
besides, impossible to tell who sent it unless they were silly enough to do so from their personal PC.

Subtle work by the lofty group officers [assuming they are the ones who sent it]... i like it.

OMG....don't even start me on GRN procedures....dear god

Tell me about it... i thought we had some standard terms, perhaps it's not written anywhere though...

Incident Number plus;
Acknowledge
Mobile
Clear of Call

Not that hard... too many using 'responding'. What does that mean? Are you responding to the page? Responding to the station? Responding to the incident in the truck?

**My personal opinion only.

Any word if the new MFS station will have any impact on CFS in the area?

Salisbury CFS station is already well inside the MFS boundary so i would doubt it.

The only "Woops" is the accidental duplication, although I would suggest the locations were "different enough" to warrant checking.

Brigades sent on the duplication stopped and then upon arrival at initial job responded as an upgrade.

how many SES units are RCR responders?.....if you are looking to recruit more members for all Brigades, wouldnt it make sense to show the roles that all Units have?

Pretty much every unit outside of metro Adelaide.

SASES / Re: SA SES Recruitment advert

Hmmm well it is much better than the slow motion CFS promotional video recently released however i wonder how relevant it it to a majority of SES workload.

If its primarily to recruit for rural areas where SES are the road crash rescue combatant then fantastic, however not so great for the metro areas where primary role is storm and salvage.

My honest opinion only.

Interesting fire bans for tomorrow? Almost guarantee FDI will rise above TFB Level locally! TOUR DOWN UNDER stunt maybe??

Doubt it. They don't cancel a stage unless area is catastrophic.

10-01-13 18:00:42   BURN INFO: NOT MUCH WIND NOT TOO HOT! SO WE WILL COMPLETE THE BURN AT 25 MT OSMOND TONIGHT. TRUCKS LEAVE 19;15 APOLOGIES TO CAPT'*****OR STATION. DAVID - CFS Burnside Info

Middle of January and TFB tommorow in MLR... when is enough enough? Surely we are just burning off for the sake of seeing flames by now. All meaningful fuel reduction should be well and truly completed.

with 6-8 weeks of fire weather still likely, then its not out of the ordinary to do some defensive fuel reduction particularly around important assets or in particularly dangerous areas if you havent managed to get it done so far. God knows in their (and our) area theres so much to be done and only a few real days to get it finished

Having said that, given the forecast for tomorrow, the SEVERE category rating and TFB I'm not sure its prudent to be doing this tonight with 30-40/gusting 50 kph winds forecast in the morning. Great scope to filtered it up and look like a prat in the paper. The Burnside boys aren't yokels who do this twice a year, so I guess this will be fine.....just higher risk I guess

I guess any Strike Team calls will be paid in Milky Bars :)

No doubt about the fact that they are a brigade that is very experienced with fuel reduction burns. My main concern is time of year, predicted weather etc.

I also feel that the community would be getting very mixed messages.... The CFS [state] and medcia are bashing the fact that its a TFB, prepare your Bushfire Action Plan, etc and yet their local brigade goes out and lights up a paddock for training?

Only my two cents anyway. Im sure all will work out to be fine.

Considering the change in weather we have seen in SA I am surprised we have not gone to TAS/NSW/VIC yet, but nothing will happen unless those agencies request us.

I'm tipping the request will come just in time for my rec leave to finish.

73
MLR, KI & LSE only have to hit 100 to make catastrophic due to high levels of forestry.

Crew for OTH A34, Para Tanker and for Strike team vehicle reqd for Clare tomorrow leaving station at 05:30 back early evening. Please SMS David on 0438 807 678. - CFS One Tree Hill Info

Why would you pull a strike team out of a group that is in a TFB tommorow to go to an area not in TFB?

Regardless of FDR there is still a huge number of resources in the hills. 5 trucks doesn't  make much difference.

Yep always read the full pager.

Many a person has looked incredibly stupid turning up at the station after responding to a test message.
