Listen to everyone having a whinge......!

Had you considered that the person/people involved may be thinking that they are doing exactly the right thing. Perhaps the view is that the Group level want to know what is happening. There does not need to be an SOP or directive for a way of doing things to be normal.

If I was a DGO or GO in a group and was receiving too much information I would politely let the brigades know. If in this case no one in the group is complaining, what is the issue.

The only issue here is that you can read the messages on a web site and somehow tihnk the way you do business is much better than anothers way. Grow Up.

This issue was raised loud and clear with CFS OHS people about 5 years ago. They seemed un-interested and not fussed. It was raised again with senior CFS regional staff and State training staff. The response was "there is too much of it out there not much we can do"

Very sad - I know this is fact as I was the one who let them know.

This could become a huge issue for peoples health, you really should be taking HAZMAT style precautions if you are using 3M AFFF.

You won't hear a thing in protest while the two groups are collaborating.......Many issues are being addressed cooperatively.

You can't really have a public spat with a Union you are working with on certain issues

SASES / Re: Edinburgh SES ??
« on: February 02, 2008, 07:34:51 PM »
my partner works on the edge of Elizabeth west and Edinburgh park and we take bottles to Edinburgh west bottle yard which is across the road from Edinburgh SES.
That makes no sense at all since Elizabeth west is East of the RAAF Base.

If there was Edinburgh West it would be west of Edinburgh, wouldn't it. And that would place it on the other side of the base altogether towards Waterloo corner.

As far as I can tell the SES unit is in Elizabeth West. :|

so Edinburgh SES is in Edinburgh west when it is east of Edinburgh and if CFS is linked to one "major town" how come there are names like muddla wirra and dalkeith??????????

The post above said ELIZABETH WEST. Not Edinburgh West.

Their unit is located in Elizabeth West not Edinburgh since Edinburgh is the RAAF Base.

One fire service - imagine the old dogs trying to learn that new trick. Will be an interesting ride if it happens (which I think it will). :-P

Moderators will be watching threads like this closely - DO NOT allow yourself to get close to the line when it comes to things like slander etc.....

Remember you can be held personally responsible for what you say.

Are you suggesting paid CFS firies would be paid less than MFS ones?

Not at all! 8-) but rather than a full 4 person crew 24/7, working a 2 day 2 night 4off cycle, i could imagine a day crew scenario that may provide a saving. :-)

Sorry have to agree with Uniden - payed = SAMFS. Otherwise you end up with another level of complexity.
Also if you are going to have payed CFS why both with retained SAMFS?
The NSW model seems to make more sense - full time + retained NSWFB, vollies = RFS.

I think the reverse is true, paid SACFS could prevent complexity. IF SACFS paid crews are working alongside SACFS volunteer crews, they would be intimately aware of SACFS arrangements, procedures and internal workings. Another paid agency eg SAMFS can never hope to achieve this level of understanding IMO....

Are you suggesting SAMFS rural stations with rural/urban trucks????

A better way is to staff existing stations and trucks with small crews of SACFS. The community get an affordable and reliable response and avoid overly expensive trucks and a very hefty wages bill. IMO

Country Fire Service / Re: Introduction of aerial applainces to the CFS
« on: January 18, 2008, 09:51:41 AM »
Consider an area like the Barossa, hefty investment in huge infrastructure. Multi Storey buildings and extreme risk.

The nearest sky jet is at Oakden probably a solid forty minute drive to Nuri even with the assistance of green lights all the way. Surely a brigade like Tanunda, Nuri, Lyndoch should have appliances proportionate to the risk covered.

The risk should determine the appliances in stations not if the service providers are paid a wage or not. 8-)

Does that mean all country towns with concrete wheat silos should get aerials, cool place orders for Owen, Hamley Bridge, Balaklava, Tarlee, Mallala & half of the Yorke Pennisula send them with our tankers

Agrees with Evac.

But I think the government does have some responsibility to protect infrastructure. If not then why would SAMFS purchase trucks like Brontos? They see the high rise risk and fund the appropriate resources to cover the risk. If it where left to building owners in the city there would not be appropriate resource.

Back to my earlier point the fire service should be provided with appliances appropriate to risk even if that risk is developing rapidly. Clearly Silos have an economic impact for lost grain etc but Large shopping centres, wineries, factory's in my view create a greater economic and social impact if lost than a silo.

It's called sarcasm and probably quite funny to those it was intended for. 8-)

We shouldn't get bent out of shape after reading stuff that's not even technically meant for us....
