Thank you very much for providing more insight into the ESS enviroment, I personally am hoping to gain employment in ESS if I am deemed competent on the Strecther Taxis. Thats if I am successful in my application lol
Who else on this forum has applied for the PTS intake? Message me as I would like to make some connections before SAAS PTS Training.

Cheers  8-)

Just noticed how does the AO/Paramedic communicate with the Driver of the BRV?
Is there an intercom or something? See picture :)

Curious how does one get work on the ESS Truck?
Besides the minimum of Cert IV and LR Licence does SAAS select ESS Officers from the PTS pool and train them in the use of Barry? :P

I am also worried at the suitablity of members in the group... I understand standard SAPOL checks are performed but what about medical assesments? Mental suitabilty to undertake the role. I have seen a few members that I personally think need admission into C3 and should not be anywhere near a patient even if there sick or not. It looks like they accept anyone willing to become an EMT LOL

Does anyone know what qaulifcations members of this group actually hold?
Does the Training Officer hold a Cert IV or Diploma in TAA? If not how can they "train" there VAO's and be actually licenced to perform NEPT duties if a majority of training is not actually recognised? I am deeply concerned as I have seen case cards handed to the Triage nurse with nothing more then the patient's first name!!!! *Shakes head* I am aware they need SAAS EOC approval to activate warning lights / sirens but often witness them driving with them on along Greenhill road and around CBD at times... Rego AEI --- Ambulance 79 or something!
It just amazes me this group is still operating dispite substandard equipment and training for members on all levels - Operational to "Executive" LOL old farts from St Jack days that simply believe there Paramedics and ICPs! (Shudder)

Excel saying that the EMTs may someday end up killing a patient is a very strong statement unless you can back your claim of clinical incompetence you should refrain from stating such things on this forum. I understand people have concerns about this group but they are monitored by SA Health officials who do review all case cards and investigate serious medical treatment incompetencies.
There Executive meets often with the Health Ministers office and must comply with such directions given by the Minsiter. This includes contacting SAAS when a patients condition deteriorates maintaing life support until SAAS arrival and too seek permission for activating of warning devices. Again I am aware others do not agree with the way EMT operate but be assured they are closely monitored at all times any mistakes and there licence is GONE! I just hope a life is not lost for any changes too happen both clinical / training development and operating procedures. End rant :)

I have some questions regarding usuage of beacons and sirens by Ambulance groups.
What about EMT Ambulance Service?
I have noticed there trucks have red / blue flashers and sirens.
Do they have a high-acuity non-emergency licence?
What is the difference between them and private NEPT operators in Adelaide?
What is the difference between SAAS ATS and EMT as they both cater to NEPT duties and the right too having such warning devices?

Thanks again :)

Hi All,

Has anyone had any interaction with OT Private?
The HQ is located in Port Adelaide and also a Melbourne office.
They provide On-site Health Centres, First Aid and Emergency Response.
Attached is picture of EMR Vehicle.

Enjoy! :)

Nocare1 I would much prefer being provided a service by SAAS staff over a private provider anyday! I am sure much others would prefer this too? :)

Leave Emergency work for Paramedics and Transfers for SAAS Ambulance Officer...

"Patient Transport Officers are working to get people to medical support in any circumstances, regardless of whether they are facing an emergency".

I personally would like medical intervention both non-emergency and emergency from a professionally trained and competent clinician not some person with a Certificate III in Patient Transport.. Specialising in delivering Nanna to her Radiology appointment and home again hahaha!! Keep your eyes peeled for next weeks edition of Careerone... Who knows IMS Ambulance Service could be starring next! Watch this space! ;)

SAAS / Diploma vs Degree
« on: February 08, 2011, 08:55:05 AM »
Hi All,

If someone wanted to apply to become a Paramedic in South Australia but only have a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Paramedical Science what is the likelyhood of them being offered employment with SAAS.

I know both NSW and NT offer student paramedics 3 year Diplomas.

Would they need to apply for Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) and be RPL with the Diploma and Advanced Diploma.

Cheers!

Hi Guys/Gals,

Can anyone tell me what this vehicle would be used for? My thoughts would be mining or industrial response? It also has maroon LED lights.

Cheers

The other way to get reaccreditation is to go via the AREMT who will do so by challenge exam and skills RPL. I believe they have a local assessor who have done this for SAAS personnel wishing to work overseas.

Blackfoot I am sure you are the local AREMT assessor in Adelaide! I have checked out the AREMT website and listed assessors are <Removed Name> and <Removed Name> for South Australia

SAAS / Re: SAAS Making it harder to Volunteer !!!!
« on: November 30, 2010, 10:00:04 AM »
A problem is an opportunity looking for a place to happen. If you blokes who travel from Adelaide to near country stations to do your now compulsory 12 hour shift no longer want to volunteer for the government then consider alternatives. There is a small non emergency ambulance service owned and run by volunteers who are on the road every night of the week in metro Adelaide. Not for profit humanitarian NGO.

WOW Blackfoot it looks look you are actively seeking new volunteer paramedics for EMT Ambulance SA as you keep refering to the only NGO Ambulance Service in Adelaide... I have visited the EMT website and it says the group is a volunteer guild of paramedics? Who is actually a qaulified paramedic within the group?

Although this will provoke a torrent of abuse and angst try looking at the EMT Ambulance Service. All volunteer, training to diploma level and some lifesavers who work on shift during the winter months. A number of ex members who have obtained jobs with QAS and NSW services. 8-)

Excuse me Blackfoot EMT Ambulance is not an RTO so its training conducted by its training officer is not actually recognised anywhere in Australia so please refrain from stating your members are trained to diploma level because they are not!

SAAS / SAAS PTO intake 2010
« on: December 23, 2009, 08:05:48 PM »
Hi Guys,

Anyone know when SAAS will be accepting applications for Patient Transfer Officers in 2010? I applied in 2009 but had to withdraw as another employment oppurtunity had arisen at the time, I am still interested in becoming a PTO what is the likelyhood of gaining F/T employment as a PTO?

Any current SAAS employees please do not hesitate to contact me!

Cheers
