Country Fire Service / CFS NEEDING MORE APPLIANCE'S
« on: October 03, 2006, 01:29:04 PM »
Our station is one of the busiest in our group and yet we have only 1 truck, we have 10 or more members rocking up to the station on all call outs we have to turn most of the members down or tell them to respond in their personal cars and yet other stations in our group only have 50 call outs a year and struggle to get crew members on most call outs and yet they have 2 to 3 units. we have told our region this problem and they say that state do not want to extend their fleet. does any other brigade have this problem?

Yep - been happening for years! I remember sitting in the station one night listening to a going school fire but the SAMFS SO would not upgrade because it meant CFS would get a run. This was confirmed by CFS friendly SAMFS firies who worked their little buts off without any 2nd alarm support.

Another job we got direct on the fire phone, going workshop fire - in SAMFS area but on the boundary. We turned out and responded SAMFS, literally 30 seconds from arrival we where forcefully instructed over the radio to not respond as it is SAMFS area.
Suffice to say we attended anyway!

sounds like something the mfs would do and yet it is ok for them to respond in our area  :?

I realise that.

But in all seriousness it will happen one day where the mfs will respond to a rural fire it will be get out of control and someone will die.

Which probaly could of been avoided if the CFS were called to begin with.

Also does the MFS do any burnover training?  If not what would they do if they were caught?

i agree 100% with you camo

Country Fire Service / Delays between MFS calling out CFS

There has been numerous times in our group where the MFS have had a call out in our area and they dont call us out straight away some times 20 mins after their enitial call does any other brigade have this problem?

they get called out to a scrub fire in our area knock the flames down and then call us out to mop up and they leave the scene its as if they are just using us

Should CFS volunteers get half price regestration off their private cars, cheaper council rates or pay cheaper emergency services levy as an incentive to stay in the service so we have not as much burdon on our backs as volunteers?

My mother has been in BA for 6 years and now they have brought in these new BMI stuff and she is only 5kg over the BMI and she has been told that she is no longer allowed to do BA, I have seen MFS in our area that are more than 5kg over the BMI how can they justify this? the CFS is a Voluntary service                                                                                                                                                          WELL SAID I AGREE

I work for the ambulance service and a vollie for the CFS. while on my ambo duties I have been called to more thinner people in BA than larger people so no one can tell me that larger people cant do BA I think that it should be equil rights. If you can pass the BA course you can do the job at hand.
