Plus also firefrog, being an administrator you are supposed to be neutral.   This act of posting is not professional....  If you want to have your opinion do it under a different username that doesn’t link you as admin.  Also when posting as Admin don’t hide behind your desk put your name to it.

Two of the many towns will be enabled this fire season.

Can confirm all Regional, SHQ, Emergency, and MA channels are recorded.

By request, at the time of an incident. I believe a talk group can be recorded. Not sure...  I would like to record our own talkgroup locally for training purposes and to cover backside.

LOl yeah i hear a new one
*Dont wake me up god damm you

heheheheh

No other codes worked.. this testing only happened for a couple of hrs when SES went over to mfs comm's.  Dunno what DAIS was thinking about the idea... and havent seen it since.

Under the impression that a pager can be shut down remotely. but cant be programmed remotely... which is a pitty would make life easy.

when you think about it...  the pager is decoding the data message that is sent out over the Data channel... so  yeah... cant see why they wouldnt be able to brin in a new trigger for tone 7..

i could be wrong.

I have been using a program called Scanner recorder pro which give you both left and right input and output.. also records in a txt file time, date, of when a transmission is made either way and for how long and some other details.

Im still working on how to record it straight from the GRN.

Im looking at the idea of a cat 5 cable plugged into the GRN mobile unit, going into a little box i make up that will have a feed going to the computer and other bits in the box so we can actually record the mic of the GRN when u hit the PTT button as the power output on the mic is so so low you cant tap into it hard wire.  So on the box it will have a outlet to connect the microphone.  So at any stage of the game you can just unplug with in seconds and plus direct back into the mobile unit.  Of course this is still in build mode and i will need to get the idea and system passed by many on the food chain...  Still a working idea.

Something about a SOP regarding BA operators and GRN radio's that each person or each team that goes in needs a radio.. im assuming you will need more than one radio for this...

Sorry know nothing about BA... or the full understanding of the SOP..

So also what happens when MFS are in a CFS area.... what fire ground channel do they use to talk to CFS... last time i checked they dont have VHF... someone really didnt plan this out too well...  Yes they can come onto our talkgroup but that isnt standard SOP... they need to be in a fire ground channel

all i can say is that when SES went to MFS Comm Cen i notice a test being done by DAIS with URGRES i did send a test page to my pager with it and it did set tone 7 off...

Since then i tried it and it didnt set tone 7 off..  dunno what they where doing... someone else much of seen it other than me.

so camo what happens when the crew cant talk to the sector commander on VHF because of the poor quality of the system i have found.

you try advising 30 trucks they shouldn't be using the GRN at a huge incident.

Yeah i have now changed my name 2, its

Nasty PR guy that hates little old ladies / interesting chap...    hehehe

YES totally agree more VHF, but some that actually work..... finally after fighting heaps we will soon have 4 VHF per appliance.  See the problem was and still is normally the OIC takes off out the truck and takes and GRN and VHF, only coz 90% of our captains dont have their own GRN.. so that leaves us with one VHF and no portable GRN... sounds fun...

From my understanding the person at the pointy end and pump op should both have a VHF to start off with?

I keep saying, why isnt there two external speakers on the back of the truck near the pump with a microphone so when u jump out of the truck u flick the switch and you have comm's on the back near the pump.  Both VHF and GRN..  Its NOT that hard to set up... Another innovation ideal brought to you some one who cares that no one is not being listened too.

i think i could say Lincoln brigade has the best hand signals in the west.... we can work magic in scrub and over hills especially where VHF doesn't work...

This VHF not working is starting to become a problem...

Does any one else find VHF a problem???

then trucks start going back to GRN again because the VHF didn't work and that it then causes the other problem... we wont go there..

Cheers

Does any base record GRN traffic on their local talkgroup.

Im looking at a few options of recording our GRN from mobile unit to computer.  Has any one else successfully done this yet? Both sides of the conversation not just input.

So they are short and ugly pip :-P

yeaharound the 3k mark is correct... didnt know they where heavier ...

lol and how many hand holds does your brigade have pip.. we have two for Lincoln...... and 19 lost/missing in action in the system from the group... how poor is that... i was officially told the R6 was the last to receive GRN and they didn't order enough and by the time R6 even got the radio warranty was already out of date and they stopped making them... LOL how bad is that...  i think R6 should be first this time... hell we might even get 5 or 6 per truck like some people in R1 and R2 got...

I believe SAPOL have programmed in there toggale switch the ABC switch... programmed main talkgroups they used and when they flick it says the talkgroup... good idea i think.. means u dont have to take the radio off your belt or jacket and look at the screen...

Im just putting ideas out there on what i would like to see i suggest others do the same... who knows who is watching this forum.. :-)

please dont make me LOL... you asking me to put something on paper and forward up the food chain... OMG LOL sitreps dont even get up the food chain correctly and they are a leagal requirement... its like Chinese whispers...  HA HA>..... no offense... i like going straight to the top and i know it does piss people off and step on peoples toes and i dont mean it and i have the best intentions in the world but i like my message to be clear and actually reach the top and be heard... thats why im jumping up and down about this innovations committee... maybe im going about it the wrong way.. but i have tried the other way and things keep getting squashed at local level because people dont like change...

Couple of things i would like to see improved on the GRN in the next generation.

That there are more GRN's ordered per brigade.  One portable per truck is not sufficient.

When you change talk group it tells you what talk group you are on.
When there is a busy tone it say's "Network Busy" instead of beeps
When there the battery is going flat it tells you "Battery flat"

These whole tone things are crap for the every day farmer... for people like me i live for tones and flashing lights to tell me errors but not every one has letter after your name like me, to understand them

SAPOL have some pretty kewl functions.

im sure other people have got some suggestions we could use... as i see mr bau is registered maybe he could take these ideas on board!

well cmon guys we are the only ones that can make this happen... we need some way of making change.  Us volunteers run the show not SHQ...  I think people keep on forgetting its us that make this what it is.... not anyone else..

If we all speak loud enough someone will hear us...Only takes one person to start a revolution

What % of people carry a radio around with them??

Why are CFS still in the dark ages???

What is CFS's back up for when a Fire takes out a radio station transmitter to the community?  How will they get there message across?

how many people carry a mobile phone?

how many people are near a landline?

how many people are sitting in front of a computer?

Do i need to say anymore,  if some one in SHQ is reading this post PULL YOUR FINGER OUT.  Sorry but seriously get in the 21st century or stand down and let some one else do your job.

CFS has been approached on this idea.... guess what... oh its not 100% fail safe... is anything??  Oh there are legal issue, we are too scared boohoo... poor poor poor me another drink.....

So P&*#@ED off that CFS wont support this.  local community shouldn't be ringing the Bushfire alerts number and reporting something CFS should be doing this when it goes out on the radio, as a back up and also to reach all them 100's of people that don't have a radio strapped to their ear.

By the way Port Lincoln and Nth Shields are being turned on next week... cant wait... the rest of the LEP will be turned on soon as we get more people joined up...

Dear Users.

As some of you might be aware of the bushfire alert system that Skunkworks Australia has brought out.

I'll explain a little.

About Bushfire Alert

Bushfire alert enables communities to send and receive early warning alerts when a bushfire occurs in their area.  Voice alert messages are sent to your work, home, and mobile phones, and text alert messages are sent to your email and sms, making you aware of the bushfire regardless of where you are at the time so you can make an immediate decision on what action to take.  it can take up to an hour calling all your neighbors about a fire, valuable time that could be spent evacuating or fire-fighting, and potentially dangerous for the last people receiving a call.  Bushfire alert calls your entire community for you quickly and easily at the early stage of the fire, giving you a better chance of protecting your property and helping your family to survive.

Who makes the phone call to report the bushfire?
If you see a fire in your that has not yet been reported, then you make the phone call to your community bushfire alert number.

Will the local fire authority initiate the alerts?
No. Bushfire alerts are activated by you and your community.

What number do i call to report a bushfire?
In all cases you much call your emergency services first, typically 000.  Then call your dedicated community bushfire alert number that we provide to you when your service has been activated.

What happens when i report a bushfire?
The system will as you to leave a message about the fire such as where it is heading and what action you are going to take and what fire authority has been notified.  The system confirms to you that your message will be sent.

What does it cost.
$25 per year for each property including GST.  Each property can register multiple delivery methods such as the home, work and mobile phones to receive voice alerts, and email and SMS to receive text alerts.

How do i form a new community.
Gather a list of interested properties in your area and send them to us and we will activate your community immediately; or register your property individually with us and we will contact you when there is a sufficient number of properties in your area to activate that community.
