SASES / Re: future of Adelaide Hills SES

C'mon Squiddy, give us the good ink   :-D

Haaaaaaaa! Hahahahahahahahahaa! Mate, you made me laugh. Thanks for that... definitely needed.

The main reason I am not going to get involved with this is due to the fact that these poor members are going to cop a lot of flack for the decision made by people to go to the media. I am not going to blame anyone. I have heard all sides to the story.

However, I will say this much (you knew it would happen eventually... Squiddy speaks once more). The public do not give a stuff about the inner turmoils of the service. The public do not want to hear how much their tree jobs tick off the crew. The public pay their emergency services levy, therefore they are entitled to call the SES if a tree falls. That is how the public sees it. The public are not trained in these jobs, so they call the SES. The public expect the SES (and CFS) to get in there and do any jobs asked, because the ESL is paid. The public do not want to hear about a lack of equipment and premises in the SES, because then they wonder what their money is being used for.

That is why the proverbial has hit the fan... because Mr and Mrs Joe Public believe they are paying for a professional service in an emergency, and they don't give a stuff about politics.

Welcome to the future of emergency services, boys and girls... it is ALL about corporate image and pleasing the taxpayers. It actually has little to do with rescue at all.

Uh... there is a hell of a lot to this story that you are not aware of.
I would advise all SES personnel to steer clear of commenting on this one, otherwise you may just get your fingers burned.

Big brother is watching.

Some info came across the radio later - I think from the SES - which said it was a verandah that had collapsed, and landed on an unoccupied car parked underneath... it didn't appear to be a structure collapsing, after being hit by a car.... (at least, that is what it appeared to be, from the info provided).

So the initial pager messages was perhaps, not correct........

Thanks to my crazy sources, I can give you this much correct information:

Bloke backed his ute into carport post. It split the post right down, so the clever man then proceeded to cut the post (thinking the roof was supported in other places) It was one of those 70s houses with the carport roof being part of the main roof with tiles. The carport came down and landed against the guy's foot. That is why the ambos were called, because his foot was sore. CFS were called because there were gas bottles under the carport and also the cars were still there. CFS left the scene after the cars/gas were removed. SES pulled down the carport and tarped what was left of the roof.

It would be the F250. SES bought a few F250s for units who towed huge trailers (storm & salvage, vertical, USAR) and boats.

New SES overalls and 2-piece PPE meet Australian standards for road visibility so a vest does not have to be worn... otherwise every single RCR unit would need to put their members in vests for RCR jobs, which would just be unsafe as the vests can catch on everything.

I think vincent will be getting his rear kicked for what he has said and may be it is about time that marker did call for back up and use what is in your group..Last time I looked your rescue was a type two pumper so what is your problem........

Think the problem is that they might as well call in a crew from Adelaide by the time the others got crews and decided to rock up...

Perhaps on the next batch of SES rescues CFS could fork out for one for Barker that would give them the stand alone and they are fairly decent truck and a lot faster than the canter too.

Perhaps the illustrious leader of Adelaide Hills SES could relinsquish power and then SES and CFS could end up in the same building as one service... then SES would happily pay for a new rescue truck...

*falls over laughing at the thought of the "leader" relinquishing anything*

We are all supposed to be a part of the TEAM :-D

Be that as it may, somehow I think that if this decision were ever made it would end in a mutiny.

I think the word you're looking for there is actually homicide, not mutiny

can anyone tell me whats happening up at mt barker station a work mate was up that way the other day and said they may have a new station join with ses and may be mfs but it does not sound right can any one confirm??

maybe your mate was talking about region 1 HQ? the SES run their shenanigans outta there too.

Not for too much longer from what I've heard. It would seem that Central SES region want to take their bat and ball and move into the city because it is easier for all the metro units to get to them (never mind the Yankalilla, South Coast, Strathalbyn, Murray Bridge, Meningie and Adelaide Hills units who will have to travel so much further to get there, and yet it is a half hour up the freeway for the metro units at the moment... but that's a whole 'nother story...)

Would be hard to find any land there that would be big enough and central enough to locate both services.

Would need a pretty damn big burial plot for all the members who would eventually kill each other (god knows they have been trying hard enough)

Who in their right mind would willingly agree to cohabitate with Adelaide Hills SES?!

As far as I know, Adelaide Hills SES are still looking for a new home because their current premises completely sucks as far as having things like no hot water, no parking and having a tiny tin shed for the crew. There had been talk of trying to co-locate CFS/SES a while ago, but unless the CFS and SES in any town get along really well, both services are pretty reluctant to do it anymore due to issues in the past.

So yeah... I think current standing is that Adelaide Hills SES are looking for a new home, but Mt Barker CFS are happy where they are.
