SA Firefighter General / Re: Interesting Fire and Emergency Related Paging

OK yeah sure it was only a small rubbish fire (infact play equipment i think in the end) and it was in MFS area (just). So does that make it OK for my crew to lay in bed and make the call not to go, just because it might be some crappy little rubbish fire, and MFS might beat us there, so what. The pager has gone off for a reason what ever it might be, how do any of my crew know that the Christies units might be doing at that time, they might be committed with a Fixed Alarm or a MVA else were in their own area and require our help. My personal thoughts are, we get too much info on the pagers and crews make up their minds weather to get out of bed or not, if it was a call for an MVA or a domestic I bet I could have had 2 units on the road no problems. Bring back the old link pagers I say (a tone and a red flashing light) back then we could get 2 units on the road and have 2 relief crew at the station on standby. AHHH bring back the good old days.

No its just good pre-planning, bacause at our last group meeting (Mawson Group) all the Captains were asked to submit name of people who could go on task jobs in or out of state and for how long they could go for.

Hey heres a thought... why don't CFS refurbish a couple (3 or 4) of the older units and send them over to KI and have them on standby, so all we need to do is organise and send over crews to man the units (be it that they are older ones) but that way they can hit the ground running, and do what we do best. This would also help in the decision making process as to where the next big fire might be here on the main land and try and not deplete that groups resource's..... any thoughts?

P.S. and yes I know we will end up sending appliances anyway, but this could be a good way of trying to contain the fire as quick as possible in the eairly parts of the fire by getting crews over there ASAP (by air) to start working.

samfs has hit the nail on the head you need the support from your neighbouring brigades weather they be CFS or MFS to help you get through this tough times ....i know its hard....this sounds like the same situation Seaford was in some time ago

SA Firefighter General / Seaford Responses

OK id like to put my two sent worth in here at this point in time, because it seems that most of you are being given the wrong info in regards to Seafords postion. Yes its true that in the past we did struggle with getting a crew to man the trucks, for our call outs but due to a very successful recruitment intake that issue is a thing of the past, we can now get at least 1 unit on the road 24hours a day, and its getting to the case now, were yes we can respond two units to our own callsin our own area as well....the issue of MFS and MV responding with SEAFORD is still an ongoing thing because, the two chiefs of both MFS and CFS have asked us to sit down with both of them and prove that we can get at least 1 truck on the road 24hours a day, a thing that i as the Captain of Seaford would love to do at any time but the stall tactics that are being put in place by the chiefs is making it very hard to do so... So as soon as we get a chance to plead our case to the brass we will be in like Flinn to do so ....so until then unfortunately MV and MFS will be backing us up...If you all think this is a waste of resources sending all these vehicles to rubbish fire and what ever else we might go to, then if you know either of the 2 chiefs please let them know that we here at Seaford are pissed off too and are ready to have our meeting to resolve this issue.
