Country Fire Service / Re: Experiance on of OIC
« on: June 13, 2007, 11:15:08 AM »
Its all crap. There is no way anyone without the experience should be oic of a truck. If you don't have an officer... don't go. How do you get experience-Be there help an OIC out. Don't just sit back and get all chummy with your mates and say one day i'll get voted in. There is way too much responsability required from an oic. What happens when someone stuffs up or needs reprimanding. As a non elected officer the ACT does not allow you to make some decisions.

SACAD should bring an end to this brigade/group rivalry as "Boundries" or "Response areas" will be purely for admin purpose.. i.e who completes the primary report.

There is an appropriate form to fill out to send to sa water for repairs of hydrants and replacement of blue reflective markers. See your regional hq.

Well said Firefrog.... There would be far more justification for non EMA brigades with large industrial risk to have decent pumpers. Why not make all CFS brigades in EMA situations rural/urban (rather than urban/rural), then the MFS might do something about manning etc and not rely on the CFS as much. This would also allow CFS to distribute funding further away from the urban fringes.

SA Firefighter General / Re: New Green Uniforms
« on: December 11, 2006, 06:34:21 AM »
These are available to volunteers. It will not be expected to be worn by everyone. They do not replace the yellows. They are ideal for Incident Managers, strike team leaders, sector commanders through to incident controllers, Fire Investigators etc where it is appropriate to be in uniform without the fire protection level of the yellows. Personally didn't think they looked that bad. Made those wearing them look professional. Rather than IMT personnel wearing jeans and any t-shirt with a cfs IMT vest or strike team leaders wearing turnout pants and a t shirt in a command car.

We are not issolated in the fact that we fight wildfire. Many places around the world have to deal with fires much more intense and on a larger scale than we could ever encounter in Australia.

Some links to other trucks around. Some make sacfs trucks look pretty basic.

Country Fire Service / Re: FUNDS CUT
« on: June 15, 2006, 05:03:05 PM »
Latest rumour has it that the expected funding model (and subsequent cuts) have been declined by the powers that be within CFS. It is now expected that funding will be pretty close to the same as 2005/2006. Looks like we may have been given 12mths reprieve before we see a cut..... or maybe someone will see some more light.

Spend spend spend some more...
