SAMFS / Re: New MFS station for Salisbury
« on: February 08, 2013, 09:43:59 AM »
I think the thing that's hard to swallow for volunteers is the enormity and over the top look of new MFS stations 7 million is a lot of coin for something. Not that I don't agree it's justified my opinion is some of the "nice" things are just not warranted. And I Agree Big Al what a narrow minded statement!! "Those who don't ask don't learn"

But Region 2 HQ are forced to stay in a building for another 3 years that they have totally outgrown and is now barely functional.

Try getting in there on a busy day when you have SAPOL, SAAS, Council, MFS all in there as well!

Not to mention poor storage facilities for the vehicles they have and no vehicle security.

R2 HQ are not alone on the lack of space!

1km south of Wallroo, yet Kadina CFS paged before Wallaroo MFS, albeit only several seconds. Would have thought second appliance for this type of call would be Kadina/Moonta MFS?

1km south is in kadina CFS response area hence first appliance next closest being wallaroos appliance!

:? Well I'm stumped this year, just been flicking through the adelaidenow site, they are talking about huge fires still uncontrolled in the 10's of thousand of acreas, threatening towns etc in NSW, Vic and Tassie.  What has me stumped is why no request for assistance from here, I know we have upcoming hot days, but shouldn't you fight the fight you have now and leave enough to cover if needed. I would gather many firies in the eastern states have been going for a week or more, most of the firies here are fit and well rested.

Just my opinion

It's a simple answer really mate..

NSWRFS = 70,000 vollies

CFA= 60,000 vollies

There depth is deep they can handle extended fire events!

Mind you if this goes on for more weeks and worsens and doesn't get better ya may see a request for interstate crews.

This coming week (Wednesday and Thursday) in SA  WX doesn't look good and were only one spark from enough fire fighting to last a crank for years!!

SA Firefighter General / SACAD programming
« on: January 14, 2013, 11:37:46 AM »
If your brigades within your group went through your response zones and the data was entered in to SACAD correctly thereshould not be a problem.

A 3rd alarm in fire danger season will give you 6 of the closest appliances....on a fire ban day you will get 12 of the closest...bearing in mind this all hinges on where the AF operator drops the pin and this all comes from info from the person reporting the incident!

If the work was done pre SACAD there is few issues...no input = troubles

Either way the appliances still get paged just takes a little longer to individually do it rather than raise the alarm level...i think!!

11-01-13 10:40:00   CFSRES RESPOND GRASS FIRE INMAN VALLEY YANK34 :FROM G.C.C 10:41:49 AM - CFS Yankalilla Info

It's funny how we are all quick to bash SACAD and associated things yet things like this still go on!

I also noticed with the FINNIS job the entire Mundoo Group was responded before the alarm level was raised...on all the info/training I have had with SACAD it is drummed in to us the best way to get more appliances is upgrade of alarm...or alternatively if a special resource is required request through A/F.

That's my bitch for today....stay cool  :-D

Anyone know the amount + duration of SACFS crews and appliances committed to the Nelson fire from the South East??

The scene unfolding in NSW is quite surreal I think some 140 fires and 30 un contained!!

VIC not to be forgotten with a couple of 1000HA + jobs today!!

And let's not forget poor old Tasmania with the ire fight still going on!!

Most interstate S/T are hand picked anyway if they can

Another fire in VIC burnt 1000 HA in first hour  :-o

Hi all starting a bread for all discussions on current and possibly future deployments interstate in January

Obviously south east crews are supporting CFA now and in coming days

73
MLR, KI & LSE only have to hit 100 to make catastrophic due to high levels of forestry.

Cheers Alex thanks for the info!! Stay cool and safe people!

why cut out resources from a fleet when they can be used in different areas by strike teams.  The areas where extra resources are allocated often have a high risk in terms of fire cover due to population, but with a higher population comes a higher number of people who would volunteer, so effectively creating a reserve army of firefighters would can respond to any area of the state and not drastically reducing the number of resources in the affected area

Said with tongue firmly in cheek ol mate hence the  :-P at the end!
