SAAS / Re: Black Car
« on: September 05, 2011, 10:33:39 AM »
I noticed that car a while ago in SE country town at the servo. On closer look it was at the time Mr Suttons car. He was in the servo getting fuel. It was pitch black in colour with led lights in the grill and if you where not sure you would think it was a detective unmarked car.

Hi Sambo. I have my dip of para and have no chance in hell of getting into SAAS unless you are coming from another state service as a direct transfer. I need to still get degree. Only lucky thing I can do is a conversion degree  :-)

Hey to all those out there knocking Strath. I know personally two people who live in Adelaide and go to Strath to volunteer. They have said that they have found the station to treat them with open arms and have had good support from all the crew and RTL. These people came from another station where they lived in the country town but where treated as lepors but where still expected to fill the roster and called upon often when there was a short fall. They have nothing but praise for Strath.  :-D

Anyone who gives the answers and does not train volunteers effectively should be taken from their position and possibly face retraining of their own. This could put lifes at risk and the RTO status. As a volunteer I would love to upskill and since I have further career wishes have done dip para at own expense. Still wont be saas recognised but it is a start. I agree WA way to expensive even with RPL. Make sure you shop around on the net and ring people and let them know you ahve Cert 4 SAAS qual. This makes a huge difference.

as a volunteer I agree that SAAS get their far share of money from us with the work we do. By the looks they are now reducing reimbursments for volunteers. How is this fair when some of us go without to help the local community even when we dont live in the town but travel far and wide to help. Without being rude some of the paid staff dont realise how we go without to help and it costs volunteers money, from people who own their own biz, through to travelling to stations then they say we are a waste of space and time. How maqny paramedics want to work in the middle of the country away from main civilization  :? and not a lot of support.

I think SAAS get their money out of volunteers. If the volunteer has been dedicated in their duty then they should be rewarded by extra training and upgrading if they want it. Yes there should be strict criteria meet to ensure this. Even if they are trained in canullation and require consult to use it life can be saved. Then they could possibly be called an advanced care ambulance officer or something like that.

:-D I believe vollies should be able to upskill. such a course to a volly of say 4 years exposure for more advanced care eg canulla, less restriction on their current drug use would be good. this would be more life saving for pts who are a long time from hospital and paramedic help.

I am sorry to say but I am disgusted by the words written by people about Dr Griggs. This man has dedicated most of his life in the pursuit to help people in the worst time of their life. He has studied for years and possibly still studies consistantly to give the best care he can. If I could only be 10% as good as him in life and career I would be happy.

This is silly. Not all people can do that many hours in a week. Some of us Volly AO work more than 60 hour weeks and then try to put in time as a community spirit and helping hand. Not all people have the need to be heroes just want to ease the pain and suffering of all people. Has this been forgotten. Then there is family time. We have it told to us that this is important and SAAS must come second.

have they started patient transport already. Where are you seeing them I have not seen them yet :?

I agree that there is a problem with pts reacreditation and training. I know a volunteer whom has to go back to their volly station to get accredited so she can keep up to date. This is madness. People are only human and do forget things over time

what about us volunteers who may work for a health industry eg nurses, private patient transport etc. Are SAAS going to tell us they dont want us anymore due to conflict of interest. To be honest there is no diference between volunteers and paid staff in this position. As long as you are not running the companies there must be some sort of compromise  :?. People just want to survive hard financial times.

I did not realise that there was so many operaters in the field. The only ones I Know are IMS ans Para Services. I agree that the shonky ones should be shut down and that the pt and public should safe from neglect. If you know any that I may be able to see about employment could you please email me as I a a student trying to get into the profession.I know this is probably asking a lot. Ta :-D

I dont understand why there is such a big hassle with the non emerg ambulance companies. As long as they know the legal boundries and are prepared to cooperate with SAAS if a pt deteriates to an emerg condition then the state of SA communities will have the benefit of capable pt transport :-D. All people should learn to get along we are all striving to have the same result patient care and the willing help the ill  :-D
