Wondering if anyone knows, or knows anyone who knows the exact date when the South Australian Fire Brigade changed from 3 to 4 shifts. I know that it was in 1967 but was looking for the exact date.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Can confirm that there will be a 3rd squad starting on the 22nd Feb. Pretty sure that the people being considered have already been notified. Will be taken out of the people who have already been interviewed but they will have to do the PAT 1 again as it has been a long time since they did it the first time.

People in the second squad got a phone call on Friday advising them of their start date, which I think is Sep 14th

Muscle N Pluck as I am one of the permanent Firies at The Hill I reckon I'm pretty well within my rights to make the comment that I did. Yes the station is coming to the end of its used by date (as you said stations are supposed to have a 40 year life span which will be up in 2018, so not yet overdue - check your facts) but I don't enjoy going to work any less just because our station is a little run down.

Wont they run out of time with xmas? ?

Nah 14 week course so Sep 14 start date means pass out will be Dec 18.

Don't training dept start xmas at start of Dec 8-) 8-)
[/quote]

They would probably like to think so. My drill squad started and finished around the same time. Had pass out on the 17th of Dec then first shift on the 20th

As per the web site the first drill squad starts June 9 so that means that pass out for that squad will be on Sep 11. Second squad starts Sep 14. They have yet to decide on a third squad.

They must be doing it slightly differently this year because of the group of retained Firies that have gone through a seperate process and are going to make up half of the first drill squad so they won't need to interview as many

Mr Teddy i dont want to get into an arguement about working conditions in different jobs. i was just trying to explain why the cost might be so high. Fire services all over the world have these conditions and facilities.

Have you visited a UK fire station recently, I did in November. Many of them would kill for O'Halloran Hill, which most career firies here think is unsuitable for habitation, let alone manning.

Don't know how you came up with this statement. I think you'll find that the permanent Firies at O'Halloran Hill don't mind their station at all.

So technically Ferret new station means they will need new recruits like me to fill it?  Or it doesn't work  that way ?

Nah mate, its just replacing the old Salisbury station. If Mawson lakes eventuates they will need recruits to fill it

The MFS has a "5 year plan" for the building / rebuilding of new stations. Mawson lakes will be done next which is scheduled to start next year. Next is St Mary's which will be similar in design to the new Salisbury command station. Then O'Halloran Hill (similar design to Mawson Lakes) and then Christies

I did hear from an Officer who is currently in the training department that he thought they would start taking applications again in February, but a lot of the time even the Officers who are the drill squad instructors have no idea when the next intake will be.

Heard it from a DO who was also talking about clusters being introduced into the next EBA. He was saying if they do another squad this year there would be would be a very well known SA sportsman in it. Admittedly that doesn't mean that they are definitely doing a third squad but the way he was talking it seemed likely.

Won't be one this year. New squad starting in March and more than likely another in September. Next invitation applications won't be till 2013 now.

Well done to all that are in the first drill squad!!

Hey Bolts, were you in the first drill squad of your recruitment year?? if not how long after the first drill squad were you notified??

Hey Johnny. I was actually in the third squad of my recruitment process. So I originally applied around Feb/March 2009, I did the interview and got cab ranked which would have been around July 2009. Then I didn't hear anything until about May 2010 when they rang me to say that they were THINKING about taking a third squad so I went and did the PAT 2 / uniform fit out / medical in June 2010 without any guarantee that they would actually do the third one. Then lucky for me in Aug 2010 I was told that I would be a member of Squad 42 starting in September. So it was a good 18 months from when I originally applied to when I finally started so it can be a really long process if you arnt in the first squad, but worth it.
I'd actually started a new job the day before they rang me to come in and do the PAT 2 so I was only there for a couple of months.

Congratulations to you guys that got into the next squad. The 14 weeks of the drill squad are pretty full on but you will love it. It's so much fun and really hard work. You filtered are going to be the first squad to have 4 Scania's to use as well. I was in the last squad and we still had to use the old Volvo's. Enjoy guys. See you when you graduate at the end of the year. If you have any questions let me know. Still got all of my study material

Lot of guys seem to be worried about the maths questions. All of the questions are multiple choice so the answer is there in front of you. Just have to make sure that you choose the correct one. Dont get hung up on one question. If you can't figure it out after a few minutes, move onto the next question. You want to make sure that you answer as many questions as possible so dont waste time on a question that you are finding hard. Best to move onto the others that you may know straight away. Haing said that, if you do reach the end of the test and you still have time, make sure you go back through your test and re-attempt the ones that you have missed.

The SAMFS web site has been updated with the new Position Information Document for the 2011 recruitment course. Applications still not open yet but can't be far off. The PID has some interesting changes to the minimum entry requirements. If you are thinking about applying I suggest you read it. Good luck.

Hi Guys, I've only just become aware of the existence of this site. There are some really discussions here.

Just thought that I would confirm that there is a recruit course starting on the 13th of Sep. I am lucky enough to be one of the people selected which I am stoked about.
