Country Fire Service / Fire fighter hurt in blackwood blaze
« on: March 01, 2011, 07:07:31 AM »

FROM ADELAIDE NOW WEBSITE:-

A CFS firefighter was injured when he fell through the mezzanine floor of a damaged Blackwood supermarket.
He was taken to Flinders Hospital with a dislocated shoulder and chest injuries after  part of the mezzanine level office collapsed.

IGA Blackwood on Shepherds Hill Rd was largely destroyed in the fire which was reported about 12.20am.

The CFS responded with 50 firefighters and 9 appliances, taking about one hour to contain the blaze.

The fire resulted in more than a million dollars in damage, ruining the mezzanine office and destroying all stock.

It was caused by an electrical failure in the mezzanine office.

I think at this point we can all just hope and pray that there is no loss of life in the coming days. Sure there will be total destruction and the force of Yasi is still unknown but to all our fellow Emergency service workers in QLD good luck and Hang on  :-)

Country Fire Service / Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating
« on: November 01, 2010, 08:16:57 PM »
I hear on the news CFS has now risen the grassland FDI to 150 or above before it will become catastrophic. (in all places except MLR, KI and LSE where forest FDI will be 100 or above for catastrophic). So pretty much we have gone back to our old EXTREME rating being the highest because i doubt they will ever forecast a grassland FDI of over 150. Sure in some cases it will reach that and exceed but very rarely will it be forcast above that. Anyone got any thoughts??

« on: October 14, 2010, 01:04:55 PM »
Was wondering what everyones thought's are on the coming fire season? What the growth is like in your area? How quick is it curing if at all? Do you agree with the CFS line on this is going to be the worst fire season in years? (i know we hear it every year) If so whats your brigade/group doing to make your selves ready?

Country Fire Service / CFS Facebook page
« on: July 02, 2010, 06:37:11 PM »
I recently stumbled across the CFA facebook page. I was shocked to see 67,000 people have joined the page. and it was full of conversations, questions and posts both from CFA volunteers and general public. Now in this day and age of Facebook and so on wouldnt it be beneficial for some one in CFS to use this sort of tool for information and discussion to be put out into the wider South Australian Community. Ie Facebook is a easy way for people to ask questions they dont know answers to without feeling like an idiot!

Just my thoughts

« on: January 21, 2010, 11:29:49 AM »
With the highest Predicted FDR for SA today being WC (EXTREME) and ALL other areas under TFB being SEVERE. Do you think there should be some sort of allowance for a review of this at say lunch time. Following are some current FDI's across the state.

Nullarbor @ 1200 hrs 114 CATASTROPHIC

CLEVE @ 1230 hrs 95.2 EXTREME

SNOWTOWN @ 1230 hrs 92 EXTEME

ROSEWORTHY @ 1250 hrs 89 EXTREME

any thoughts?

« on: June 23, 2009, 11:09:23 PM »
as i was looking at trucks in a yard located next to MFS Angle Park i noticed all the decommisioned CFS trucks out the back...there was quite a few of them. i wonder if eventually these will go cheap as chips at goverment auctions..They shuld just advertise them in say the Stock Journal with a price and i reckon they would move alot quicker.

Country Fire Service / Training frequency
« on: March 01, 2009, 09:06:33 AM »
yes we have done burnover training that is the one training day we have every year before the fire season..This works for our brigade and works well. we have a roster system to run the truck every sunday and this works well to. just because we dont got to the station on a night every week n talk n play fire doesn mean we are not good firefighters.
