I know we have asked which is the buisiest brigade but which is the buisiest group?

My guess would be:

1) Para Group (Salisbury & Dalkeith both score well)
2) Mawson Group (Happy Valley & Morphett Vale both do well also)

I do believe and also taking last years stats that ...

                 **drum roll please**
Para group would be the busiest group - with a pretty large total of 1109 calls last year (give or take a few)
Closely followed by Mawson group with also a large total of 987 calls last year (also give or take a few)!!!!
(that did include stop-calls!! - i might add...)
.....
 :-D :-D
and i do believe if i can work out that... i do hav far 2 much time on my hands!!!  :-P :-P

« on: March 02, 2007, 11:20:26 PM »
yeah.. i hav found it does happen... quite quickly too!!! you don't hav to be in the emergency services (the CFS which i know) that long to pick up their jargon and speak with the abbreviations only..

so when you do talk 2 some1 who is family or a friend you are used to talking normally to them so u expect them to understand the abbreviations because it is part of your own common vocabulary!!... they kinda pick you up pretty quickly with  "Wat's that?"

DECS (Department for Education and Childrens Services eg: Schools) dont believe that the CFS training is thorough enough so require Fire Wardens to be able to wade through red tape, and then put out a paper fire in a small rubbish bin with a water fire extinguisher before they can become fire warden.....

lol  :-D :-D

there hav been a few negative threads been coming up recently (not saying that that is bad or anything)... and i thought there should b a thread just on why we joined - to bring back maybe some better memories!!!

(there maybe a thread like this but i haven't been able 2 c 1!!)

i'll start it off... i came because of the flashing lights and sirens -  it seemed the perfect way 2 get an adrenaline fix (for free 2 ) but now im here lol.. i hav found it is a little more than sirens!!!

What r some otha reasons??....

Women of the Fire Industry / Re: Female Firefighters in the Media
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:35:10 PM »
Well i have noticed this is getting better...

Most CFS stations have at least 1 but mostly more females who actually are fire fighters and the percentile in the MFS is going up more, it isn't really uncommon now to see a female @ a fire station or in a fire truck...

SA Firefighter General / Re: Soil Dryness Index
« on: February 01, 2007, 11:30:11 PM »
The Mount Soil Dryness Index (SDI) is calculated using the 24 hour rainfall and maximum temperature to 9 am each day and is an indicator of the amount of rainfall (in mm) required to saturate the top layer of soil within a forested area.

The Mount SDI value varies, depending on what type of forest canopy is assumed. For locations in the Mount Lofty Ranges and Lower South East districts, the Mount SDI is representative of a pine plantation (indicated by the darker green shading in the table above). For the remaining locations (olive green shading), the calculated Mount SDI is representative of an open eucalypt forest.

For full details, see the paper by A. B. Mount, "The derivation and testing of a soil dryness index using run-off data", published as Bulletin Number 4 by the Forestry and Timber Bureau, Canberra, August 1967.

The Drought Factor (DF) calculation is based on the rainfall record over the past 20 days and the current Mount SDI.

For full details, see the paper by D. Griffiths, "Improved Formula for the Drought Factor in McArthur's Forest Fire Danger Meter" published in the Australian Foresty Journal, Vol 62, No 2, pp 202-206 (1999).

Drought Factor.
This is a broad measure of fuel avalilability as determined by drought index and recent rainfall. Where the effect of one reain peios is superimosed on another, use the lowest drought factor.

You did ask...

so with that... the higher the number, the drier the soil is???
