SA Firefighter General / Responding to old MVA's
« on: September 05, 2007, 07:42:08 PM »
I know up here if we go to a VA we will write on the car emergency service already notified or tape the car up with hazard tape so other motorists hopefully will realise that its all over.

House fire? Need the tic/demo saw its there when you need it. You don't have to respond another service. Large accident, need a thermal lance? Its already here on the rescue truck, no need to respond someone from t he other side of town with it, for a time critical extracation.

Who carrys a thermal lance is it SES / MFS or both. :?

sesroadcrashrescue it sounds like you really need to sit down with he local crews up there and do some serious training together, i am really shocked that any rescue person would be telling an AO how to do there job or to hurry up, all people rescue trained know and accept that a rescue is dictated by the AO's. Also if a patient is being resused in a car i would consider that time critial, and be asking the rescue crew to dismantal that car asap.

As Jono said it's Seafords area, but if the caller said Mclaren vale as the suburb to comcen then Mclaren Vale is going to get the job as Quarry Rd goes through Mclaren vale & Old Noarlunga. If the caller said Old Noarlunga then this thread wouldn't exist. Its not something I'd be losing sleep over pixie.

Hate to burst your bubble, but volunteers are not considered either full time nor "firies" by professional firefighters.

Whats your definition of firie. :?

SA Firefighter General / Re: Professional Firey Qualifications
« on: August 15, 2007, 06:50:46 PM »
Where was he from? Certain Fire services in Australia do offer both the training required for Cert II and III in Firefighting operations, as well as ranks equivalent to the "trade qualification" of Firefighter. As far as I know, CFS doesn't offer anything such as this.

Correct, they only have about 5-6 courses which can be accredited to the cert II / III, rest have to be done externally.

Maslins is actually a shared area between Seaford, Mclaren Vale & Aldinga, it is all three brigades primary area.

How little you know, 90% of our job is Medical and thats what i like about it, but when I'm getting paid $50,000 a year more than a MFS firefighter, ill happily put pretend anywhere, i know which job i want. I'll have the cash anyday.

261
You could do one to see how many MFS egos you could cram in to one room as they all fight to tell you how good they are. :-o

Country Fire Service / Re: Courier article 1/08/07 about hills CFS
« on: August 13, 2007, 04:24:28 PM »
There are some areas where there is a need for MFS presence where there isn't one now. But I am sure if the Govt tried to put one there there would be filtered. Eg Seaford.

The problem isn't about MFS moving to Seaford, cause this was always going to happen, its the way the process happened when the moved was confirmed thats the problem, hence the whole nature of this forum, lack of communication from HQ/REG.

I'm with you SA Firey, Oxyviva'"s should be on all cfs trucks, not just for the resus side of things but also for O2 therapy in respect to smoke inhalation.

If the crews are getting abused, paid or volly, sit back and call the boys/girls in blue and wait for them before anymore action is taken.

I'm not going to go into past or present brigade politics on a forum, they are going along just fine now and don't really need people bagging them, its just not called for. As for a job as an eso give me your resume, we are looking for blokes at the moment.

When i was doing lawn mowing on a casual basis for people in Kalangadoo all year round my policy was to carry a dry chem extinguisher at all times especially during summer/fire season  :-)
Thats talanted, able to push a lawnmower and hold a dcp at the same time.

« on: July 17, 2007, 04:30:34 PM »
I have to agree with 38.  It takes all of 5 seconds to read a couple of lines on your pager..

(Still a heap better than tone only!).. -Although, they had their advantages.

The tone onlys certainly did, like crews not picking and choosing what calls to turn up to, ie get domestic on the pager and everyman and his dog rocksup but get rubbish bin or a job not that exciting and no one rocks up.

This means it is a HQ spare fleet ambulance, they give the 40 code to ambulances on standby at sporting or non-operational tasks,in this case 401, if there were more than one it would get 402, occasionally they may be needed to respond. As to what level of crewing they could have been anything from AOs to ICPs, but probably paramedics or ICparamedics being a Cat2 they were responding to.
