SA Firefighter General / Re: Leaving School For calls
« on: June 10, 2007, 12:16:51 AM »
If you are doing it occasionally(once every couple of weeks)thats ok, but if your leaving school every couple of days for jobs then it has to be affecting your schooling. It also may depend on if you have a good understanding with your teachers that enables you are able to catch up 1 on 1 or with homework.

That wouldn't by any chance been Mr Turley would it, say giday to the big fella for me. Back on topic, if you know any plasters who might have a spare one lying around could be worth getting, they wouldnt take up a lot of room on the truck. Not sure what modifications they did to it though.

ALL Rescue / Re: CFS NEW AIRCRAFT RESCUE UNIT
« on: June 09, 2007, 02:34:56 AM »

The only other passenger orientated airports around the state are Mt Gambier, Pt Lincoln & Whyalla.  Which are all covered by MFS who have the RCR capabilities to handle an aircraft rescue.

I would have thought Roxby Downs has a fair bit of air traffic going through it too.....

Just brining up a dead thread, you would be right pip, Olympic Dam has 4-5 Rex flights a day, with just about all planes full of passengers, plus a heap of private planes coming in & out daily.
Everyone seems to be worried about rescue gear, if a plane hits the deck that hard that things in or on the plane needs to be cut, spread or similar, id be wanting to have the foam capability on the truck to cover the plane and the surrounding area before wanting to go anywhere near that plane. Its fine if your talking 5-6 seater Cessna's like at parafield, but a Rex plane will need more foam than most CFS trucks carry.

With inline extractions being the favoured way of getting patients by SAAS you shouldn't need to touch the windscreen if the situation allows it. The brigade that has the converted plaster board cutter is Aldinga, it is a fantastic piece of equipment, seen them use it, only takes a matter of seconds and it will cut through a windscreen, its very quick and no noise which is a plus for the patient.

*Olympic Dam Emergency Service
*National Parks and Wildlife
*Forestry SA

OD emergency services isn't affiliated with SACFS at all, we have Mutual aid agreements with them thats about it, but on say that word on that grapevine is that may change to a Leigh creek setup.

Its quicker to go via Mt Barker, and when you get to the Roundabout next to the school on the way in to Mt Barker, go straight ahead along Alexandrina Rd follow it to Bald Hills Rd (its a left hand bend on to bald hills Rd) you will come to a T junction and you'll be on the rd between Littlehampton and Nairne, turn right and you about 1-2kms from nairne. You miss the traffic in Mt Barker and Littlehampton then. Enjoy the course

I dont think thats the case at all..  (RE: Comms in the city).. If this used to happen, and no longer does, maybe try find out why.. I don't believe it would be souly due to the fact that the COMCEN was moved to town.

I was just giving my view to what may have happened and a possible reason for it. If you are really that concerned about it ring SAAS comms yourself and ask them why its happening.

Country Fire Service / Re: Dennis Arrived
« on: April 06, 2007, 07:42:05 PM »
Your right, but you can feel the air coming from the engine compartment through a 10cm x 10cm hole im not sure it should be happening. It would have been a engine of the same age just rebuilt.

Country Fire Service / Re: Dennis Arrived
« on: April 06, 2007, 07:05:33 PM »
No-one has mentioned about a hole in the exhaust. So my interpretation is that the 'gases' are being piped away, and it is simply the heated AIR entering the cabin.

?? Am i on the right track??

I think it is just heated air, by referring to stinky i was mean the hot engine smell you get after driving for a while, and the engine in the Dennis is by no means modern. Take it for  drive with a gas tester in the cab you will soon find out whats in the air coming from the engine. The CO level in the cab only needs to be at 7ppm for it to be over the legal exposure stantards without any breathing protection.

Thats a fair point, it seems that since SAAS have merged all there regional comms rooms, ie Far North, Sth East into a central comms area in the city this situation has become worse. I know that when the comms at Pt Aug was moved to the city we dont get called to back up the Roxby SAAS vollies to Cat 1 & 2 jobs any more.

SA Firefighter General / Re: SAAS Responding Other Services..
« on: April 04, 2007, 01:01:41 PM »
Like i said previously, SAAS can only go on the information that they are given on the phone and in life threatening cases the SAAS comms person maybe giving treatment advise to the caller over the phone.

When a ambo arrives there first priority is (as every one that has done a first aid course should know) is DRABC, if there is no danger they will attend the patient and do there primary survey then call for any assistance required, if there is danger they will call for CFS/MFS. A stable patient is not going to be affected by 10min delay in rescue response. Only when the patient is time critical is it vital to have rescue responded ASAP. There priority is the patient.

I'm also sure that if every 000 call was made by some one in some form of emergency service then no details would be missed, but there not some people get so paniced by the situation that they can barley talk.

SA Firefighter General / Re: Cleanup at an MVA
« on: April 04, 2007, 12:35:07 PM »
Technically it is the responsibility of the owner of the road, ie D.O.R.T or local Council depending on who's road it is, but in the real world SAPOL call the fire services because they will be there in 10 min not an hour or more (even longer if it after hours, so the road gets cleaned and opened quicker. But it all so depends on whats to be cleaned.
