Any idea as to what sort of station they are getting built?  We have been trying to get a new station for ages!
Title: Re: SACFS Compton
Post by: rescue5271 on January 16, 2008, 05:31:35 AM
I think a single double(long) station, but i am sure camo will tell us hopw its high enough as one day they will have to get a 34p so as to help that MFS at those alarms calls to Bunnings....

Post by: Blue on January 16, 2008, 10:01:35 AM
Bit early for photos unless you want the demolition stages too. Single bay, with a  kitchen/wash room/meeting come training room thingy out the back. Restricted by available area at the site (not physical land area, but alloted space). Maybe Camo could put together an artists impression using the 'paint' program LOL

Maybe we'll do a practice run for Bunnings when someone burns a snag at the BBQ on the front door....

Sounds like bunnings will have to hire a fire warden full time who can respond to these alarms and see what is wrong with them and let MFS know  :-)

Title: Re: SACFS Compton
Post by: safireservice on January 19, 2008, 11:12:19 AM
Just because they get 1 new premises in their area doesnt actually mean their call rate will go up "big time" (Unless the installation is very poorly maintained). We got a new nursing home in our area about 3 years ago and we thought the same, but i reckon we've been there no more than 6 times in 3 years.
Title: Re: SACFS Compton

yes but staff are not meant to interfere with their alarm systems.

Bunnings isn't actually on fire  :-D lots of no carriers and bugs to work out of the system at the start will mean a peak for Compton I think. After that we probably wont get called there for years (Fingers crossed none of these alarms will actually be anything serious). Its funny MFS changing channel to CFS as Bunnings is across the other side of the road and therefore out of area

The sprinkler head was actually located in a timber storage racking....practical spot for fire suppression but not practical when it comes to restocking the racking.

By the look of this thread, if you get one fire alarm put on in your area, then you should get another truck!

Bet the MFS would love that in Adelaide with that theory, they would have thousands of appliances.

Lucky, the truck MVA last week that sent a truck onto the school oval did not land on the new site works of the station.....

Also lucky it was near the station so the crew could walk to the job!  Compton 24 apparently took 23mins to arrive on scene due to its current storage location and special captains driving regulations!  A total load of crock!

I wasnt on scene so can not confirm this but i wouldnt be suprised.

Title: Re: SACFS Compton

might as well be.  Only three people are allowed to drive the truck while its located on private property.....2 of those work away from the area during the day and the captain is a minimum of 10mins from the truck plus travel time back to the station, so a minimum rolling time of 13-15mins.  Absolute bs!  Have taken the issue up with the group but is yet to be resolved.

Due date of the new station i believe is about mid april.

It's amazing how some trucks end up in that sort of mess

one SES unit has drivers set to trucks and cars if they dont turn up they dont respond or wait till the driver for that truck gets there so least you have one truck and three drivers but yeah its not good any driver with a MR class should be able o drive how ever needs to be trained for urgent driving
Title: Re: SACFS Compton
Post by: chook on February 13, 2008, 06:02:10 AM
Haven't heard that one - and if its true then that is bs. Once a driver is given permission to drive (remember it is on the head of the UM if something goes wrong!) then they should drive. All of my guys(& girls) can and do drive unit vehicles including the truck.
Sometimes I think some treat the equipment as their own, which isn't a problem until crap like that starts.
cheers

Thin as a rake and in the CFS? Wow, you will be pushing to find anyone to get the truck then won't you.

Seriously, does this not go back to a thread where i suggested that some captains think they own the brigade? The brigade needs to step in and get some action happening about this before a life is endangered because of an unnecessary slow response time.

So I am guessing you don't have meetings, or have BA, or do anything at COMPTON, I have seen bigger sheds for 1 call a year brigades, CFS still amaze me how they work out what brigades need.

Reckon you guys should hit up bunnings for a Gernie or Karcher high pressure water cleaner ,seeing as it spends so much time parked out in front of their place, possible talks with them about corporate signage on the unit, maybe you could remove the top coffin on the truck, replace it with timber racks and do some deliveries on the way back to the station, value adding ,very tommorow :-D

sorry i was being sarcastic when i said it was finished.  If you look closely there is no cement slab down yet.

There is a meeting room, BA recommissioning room & toilet to be installed inside that shed yet.

And as far as size its like 18metres long and 7? wide.

Im not a builder, or to be honest have any clue about anything slightly to do with that, but i thought the slab would have had to have gone down first?

Am i just being really dumb??

No mate these days they pour the footings, then build the shed & finally pour the floor. Seals the shed so dust doesnt get in & saves on formwork
cheers

SAFECOM will get the money if anyone does.

Also, I believe the billing period is more like 3 months, not a year...

Actually this alarm is monitored by station 70, so I'm guessing that it is like the metro alarms and the money actually goes back into the MFS coffers not SAFECOM.

Does anyone know why this wasn't setup as a WFAM if it is in CFS area like the policy says it should be ???

mattb....who knows....more and more politics!!!

Although it pays to have the MFS paged to any alarmed premises in our district as we all get around in rural trucks.

Aside from the fact you can't actually get to your truck, minor detail !

The full time and retained guys in the Mount all use GRN pagers as their primary means of response, therefore a WFAM system simply needs to be configured with the Compton address and those used by the MFS. It's no big deal really but any monitoring fees would now be collected by the MFS not SAFECOM.
