Country Fire Service / Re: Grass fires from the crew deck
« on: October 05, 2008, 11:42:16 AM »

2) I think being on the crew deck, of a moving appliance, at a fire, is one of the most Hazardous areas to be working in/on!..

Coming from a brigade who has running grass and crop fires that can travel at speeds up to 80kph 90% of the time, That's why we have driver training, I agree with you if your driver hasn't a clue, Otherwise crew decks and 3 deck lines are the best way to combat these fires.

There is a fair bit that is brushed over and only touched on theoretically. The OBAOC course and the CFBT courses are great.

CFBT? Compartment Fire Behaviour T?

Compartment Fire Behaviour Training?

Fair Enough I've only known it as a CFB Course

What new level 3 last I heard was that L3 is being canned & replaced with a couple of different courses. :?

I think we should adopt the NSW approach.

CFS = 4x4 bushfire trucks , proban and construction workers helmets, only respond to bushfires and nothing else.

That's fine if there are mets who are round the corner, Brigades outside suburbia (That's us in the sticks) don't have that luxury nor will we ever.

but how many brigades actauly go to a house/structure fire more than once a year?
i believe the is a need for more structural training

Of corse bearing in mind in most parts of rural sa there is no MFS so every structure fire is responded to by CFS not MFS, So yeah more structure training would be nice.

Plus theres another real problem of brigades often picking up volunteers just a few hundred metres away from the station and letting them get dressed on the way to the incident just because they didnt make it to the shed on time

Unfortunately out my way, as long as the are in gear before they are working the incident, this is sometimes the easiest or only way (depending on time of day) to get a crew

How ironic is it to say  "MFS Country Station's"...Metro..Country...ehh...METRY??

Yup, Don't make sence does it, particularly when most country towns with both MFS & CFS, out of the 2 CFS usually does more jobs

I love parade, hope it continues, reminds us that its  a serious service.

That's Fine if the people take the service seriously (Those who think of themselves as just a volunteer)

not having a go at ANY CFS brigade here but why not respond SAMFS as a dual response into CFS area for more incidents...

Simple to far away nearest MFS is 40kms (Kapunda Retained have trouble with crews themselves) nearest Fulltime MFS 55kms (Gawler) and we have 8 CFS brigades & 3 CFS grps who are closer.

For us:

Rural Minimum 2 Brig, Urban 3 Brig (2 of which BA), MVA 2 Brig (RCR 1 Brig per car\truck\bus)

Of corse that is what is responded, if resources can be scaled back after first appliance arrives the stop calls go out.

Has your group asked for a BWC??

Since 1984 when one of our brigades had a station built to accomodate one.

Are there any official rulings on crossing a leveling P1 once the boom gates/lights have operated?

Just crossed my mind today as we don't deal with any crossings in our area.

Got a better one we have 5 level crossings yet none have boom gates or lights :-D

Have Macclesfield CFS got a new BWC ?

Great  brigades & grps who have tankers are getting them replaced while needy grps who don't have them continue to go without maybe we should be writing to santa claus
