I'm still curious as to why 'Tank Fill' exists at all...?

Is it that hard to refill via the collectors and backfill during pumping operations?

As an American comrade once said "and so continues the pussification of the fire service"

Numbers, that has to be the word of the day! Pussification...  Everything is being affected by it in life.

The entire first world is becoming lazy, illogical, etc.    We will be begging asia for nutrition one day me thinks...50, 100 years?

Naracoorte do weekly checking but also for a fun night of training they will take gear off the appliances and ask members to put it back in the correct spot works well. One of their LT'S has also done a 20 question list of equipment on applainces and in a team they have to tell or show the officers where the gear is...

We've recently done this..  i madly took everything off one side of a recent build 34 (same as Penola 34)... and walked away.  Moments later: "dude, your the only one who knows the home to everything".   Huge Sigh. ;)

And somehow, we achieved putting an extra 64mm roll in after finding some extra space by restowing everything correctly...

I've come to just standing there when i see someone opening every single locker to find a torch....

Country Fire Service / Firefighter awareness of appliance stowage
« on: November 23, 2010, 10:05:41 PM »
G'day all, its not every day i start up a thread, but here goes!

I would like to hear your experiences in your brigade, of how well firefighters remember what equipment is stowed on your appliances and how well they remember where it lives on the appliances.

Are there regular 'lost' looks?  Or is it a well upkept part of regular training? Can you ask a randomly selected firefighter for a specific part of equipment not used every job and get to work with it in the hurry of when it needs to be used? Does "above standard stowage" equipment clutter the situation or overwhelm newer firefighters? Is there enough time spent on stowage/positioning awareness?

I'm coming from a brigade with a need to improve on this.

A System similar to SAAS's Cat A and Cat B Alerts over GRN could be trialed to use in similar scenarios today.

GRN 124: *emerg tones* Domestic Fire Aldgate, Crews from Aldgate and Bridgewater.

And appliance in earshot on the road, with a crew, with the right crew, within reason should be able to call up on air for the job and track priority 2 towards the location.

(Just an Idea)

And what is the time frame expected for these things to be resolved by the CFSVA with the government, 5 years?

Fact of life: Its only possible to get more funds in the year leading up to an election.

Real Pumpers are outright PTO driven...that is all.

I must say, for a 14 appliance, its a step up, the pump is logical this time...

Thank goodness there's no 'tank fill', the most dangerous piece of plumbing on newer heavy tankers.

It'd be great for the Riverland, on dual response with a BWC.

Short and simple answer:  people fail, eventually. To fix this, the higher up guys need to *accept* constructive criticism rather than continue the fail...

And its due to the lack of resources, that Gawler would just have to cope with how the rest of SA copes..

Its no different when you throw 6 alarms at a fire and CFS have to cover MFS area,  in this scenario, the risk is lack of training and awareness of the area.

SA Firefighter General / Re: Hamburg Fire Service
« on: October 23, 2010, 11:20:24 AM »
I forgot to mention before that there are 87 volunteer brigades in Hamburg which are part of the Hamburg Fire Service!!! Same proceedures, comms, training, equipment etc etc..

If they can do it why couldnt we ?

Food for thought

Something we can only dream to have for the people of SA.

I like the way stowage is organised on the 112 appliance.  Take that and compare it to a CFS 34P, it really puts CFS appliance design into the dunny.

What happens when...you have 4 BA operators..and a Lieuy rock up to the Naracoorte station.

Would you call other brigades purely for man power, not BA?

good to see someone has finally realised that rent all the light ops vehicles is a more expensive solution than buying hopefully the ses will work that out too and be able to follow suit

And..the rest of fleet SA...The Governer's car should be a 1960's GEM.
