lol...are they likely to?

It is the ONLY way they do it!  The only exception is mature age students...but again- fresh out of uni.

And you're right about the traits that people have...some young ones are wise beyond their years.....but that seems to be increasingly rare these days!

It frustrates me that FU only accept people purely on grades.

and herein lies the problem.  Gen Y's who can study and spew forth knowledge - yet can't talk to a psychotic or violent aggressive patient!  Life experience is significantly under-rated - not to mention the lack of empathy and the "whats in it for me?" attitude!

on the other side of it....the same attitude/lack of experience also means you can laugh your arse off at them when they get covered in Spew or Vomit because they don't know how to do it any other way!!

good luck Jayc

as noted by some of the others -FUSA's reputation is not that solid in terms of academic ability - and judging on the quality of some of the students of late.....[shudder]

The reality with this career/profession now is that with it being post-graduate -the competition will only increase significantly.  SAAS is prob less competitive than somewhere like QAS given that 5 uni's currently pump out over 500 graduates a year for just 120 positions in the sunshine state.

as for your comment about the motivation of rewarding and exciting work...don't worry - it will pass after about 8 years and you'll just become cynical and cranky like the rest of us public servants who enjoy a nice lunchtime walk from Vic Square to Parliament house on a Tuesday!!

i once saw a SAAS crew doing something similar, passenger was eating a bowl of serial and the driver had a coffee in hand, all while on a cat b, buuut they were driving a it more sensible than the brt driver lol, still no excuse though

In their defense tho.......at what other time do they/we get time to do basic things like eat or drink??

We all work for Kevin's "work-harder-not-smarter" regime- which basically translates to "thrash the cars.....ambo's aren't human....they can take it!

« on: August 26, 2010, 11:43:55 PM »
originally each team was issued with 14 pagers plus 1 for the VTL.

don't know if thats changed...but having said that there are some teams around that if issued 14 would be able to give each member 3 pagers!

SAAS / Re: ECP dispatch

yes I was only referring to an ALS level Para.  SPRINT paras get a higher base, and ICP's get higher than that (not much....but still more!) while SOT obviously get more again.

as white cloud has eluded - shift patterns will vary between days and nights or afternoons, on call in some country areas, or the 4x4 roster (96 hours straight) in some other country areas.  Spares (who work at all stations within a region) get a higher loading as well for the privelige of being the biartch- but still work their set shift pattern.

I do hope this is in reference to Smoke Alarms...

lmao..... sadly I recognise the way your thinking works...lol

yes - 10 years is too old for an appliance....espcially given that we all pay our ESL!

your lecturer is a nurse...of course he will say that!

yes - nurses do get paid more than paramedics...in some contexts

the rate for a paramedic at the top level of their incrememnts (which only takes 5 years to get as oppoosed to 9 years of nursing) is around the $65k mark - but then you can add anywhere between 35 and 50% loading on top of that depending on your shift patterns.

you do the math!

the only advantage to nursing is that there are a lot more career options.

yes - you can specialise - but bearing in mind that for something like retrievals..you've gotta be pretty filtered good to get a look in (small pond...big fish syndrome)
