SAAS / Re: Diploma vs Degree
« on: February 22, 2011, 07:25:09 AM »
Boredy....Vols and Career Cert IVs still work under protocols....freedom to think hasnt arrived at this level yet. For the public in some cases thats fortunate.

As for timeframes to convert Diplomas to Degrees, having had a look at it recently, here's my experience (times are for full time study)

Charles Sturt - 2 and a half years (less than 25% of the course as credit)
Edith Cowan - 2 years (33% credit given)
Flinders - 18 months - (50% Credit given)
Uni Tas - between 12 and 18 months.,....they werent really sure, it being all new and stuff to them

As for national recognition..... if anyone thinks that the 2 largest states with Paramedics (in them in terms of numbers )that all have Diplomas (NSW and Qld) are going to vote for a system that doesnt recognise them as Paramedics....then I would suggest they are kidding themselves. My belief is that the Dip will become the entry level qualification to be a Paramedic, with Degree and Post Grad qualified clinicians having differing levels or skill grades.

SAAS currently have renamed the protocols - "guidelines"

same thing - different name.

now that the 3 fingered GP has had his bucket and spade confiscated.....the words PARAMEDIC and AUTONOMY in the same sentence might no longer be such a feared concept!

if a vehicle is used only on private land they can have whatever they like on the roof.....

Still trying to work out how St Jacks get away with Red and Blues......

BM SJ vehicles are registered as a response vehicle under the road traffic act and still continues on from the OLD acts as I remember seeing on SAAS paperwork in very fine print that SAAS is a subsidiary of the St John Council. Not sure if it is still there though.

since the new health care act was introduced - all ties to St Jacks is gone.

Somehow though I think that a certain commissioner of the grand lodge of bunnies is just going to continue on his merry way and hope that no-one has really noticed that he's stuck in 1989 and St jacks do still run the ambulance service.

oh and while we're at it....if this can be counted as an attempt at keeping this on track-

have heard nothing but good stuff about OTP - even amoung all the $hit that's been getting thrown around in the media about the DeSal Plant there has not been one mention of shoddy Health Services.  Good work you quiet achieving boys and girls..you know who you are!

One day they may end up killing a patient, then where will they be?

Er.......the coroners court

They are as accountable as any other health care service - be they volunteer, private company, government based or otherwise........

I think the words DUE DILIGENCE, while being hidden by maligned ego's or greed- will eventually come back to bite those who lose focus on patient care.

I guess SAAS PTS have reds & blues and sirens and they are governed now by the same non emergency regulations as the privates. Having said that there are some obvious differences. For example the Private companies must follow protocols set up SA Health including drug protocols (which exceed the current SAAS PTS protocols and equipment carried by SAAS PTS).

er - no.  All SAAS operational vehicles need to have the ability for an emergency response.

St Jacks have a high-acuity non-emergency licence?

aren't there any conditions on this licencing....like having a certain level of staff quality and qualifications?

Yes but isn't that why you get ridiculous amounts of ambulance resources out for fire standby's?

Oh wait.....that's just the Mets and in Adelaide.

Such blatant racism. I'm amazed that this is allowed in this day and age. Not to mention the the CFS is not meant to partake in Civil disturbance suppression activities...

That's a long way to go to assist woodside.......

03-02-11 01:25:47    CB181 YADAYA NO CREW ROSTERED - GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS - SAAS Unit Coober Pedy

03-02-11 07:00:41 HOUSE FIRE COOBER PEDY OVERNIGHT INC 004 1 FATALITY FCI ON ROUTE FURTHER DETAILS ON CRIMSON SC EDEN - CFS R4 HQ Response

Pretty unprofessional effort from the SAAS EOC. Whilst this is from the same job, lets hope one didnt influence the other

Personally...if I was to get that page looking for a crew at that time of morning....I would more likely make an effort than if they just paged with a message begging.

..and let's be honest- the coordinator probably thought it pointless while the big stick was still being wielded over his shoulder by a little man with a swastika armband and a shortened moustache......

" you vill comply....schnell"

First arrival K99 = automatic 2nd alarm response...?

Helps keep the stats up and justifies extra funding.

...meanwhile..over in SAASville....crews are getting hammered on a daily basis and response times heading down that proverbial creek......and we are expected to save how many millions $ over the next couple of years?

again..shouldn't the one communications centre have the "big picture" as to what is going on statewide if they're supposed to be doing all the CRD?

**queue broken record**

well thats an all round $hithouse system.

At what point does everyone stop stroking their own individual ego's and start realising that  adelaide fire needs to co-ordinate and manage the resources it has.....instead of just being a dispatch function.

Not only will this mean resources are better utilised, but you can begin to maintain a record of what works, what doesn't, and who needs more resources in their areas.

Everyone sits here arguing that some silly codes will fix everything without looking at the bigger picture!   - maybe a few insular bubbles need popping and eyes opened....

Why are we continuing to argue that we should only use K-Codes upon entering SAMFS area?

the same reason that they want to use the K-codes in the first place? - an inferiority complex perhaps?

two different agencies doing a not dissimilar job....with a slightly different focus in some areas- but happen to use a lot of similar equipment.  Anyone who's ever been in the Army will know what the term "chocolate soldier" means......

(and no..before you jump on me it's not a racially prejudiced slur!)

Bring back stock standard "beepers".

SAAS paging is generated directly/ automatically by the CAD, and takes specific tidbits of info from the case.  U only need a priority and address ....not all this other $hit that gets sent.  Honestly.....who cares about who called it In and their phone number?

Privates not having as big an impact on SAAS's workload as first anticipated.

Only support staff according to the Acting Chief Aaron on the news.

'Only' support staff?

It's not as though rosterings job is easy...fark- they're using a rostering 'system' that doesn't work properly....they're trying to staff shifts on a shed load of OT....and all the while Foley is cutting back staff.

A few of the changes I see as getting rid of Dead wood or stuff we can do without e.g ASNO's...but Volunteer support and rostering doesn't make much sense to me....

oh....and i notinced in the paper this morning somewhere the new Chief saying that only 30 SASES types could be spared at any one time.... is there a crisis in SA that I'm not aware of at the moment?

or is it just a general lack of numbers?!

bearing in mind too that the riverland is expecting something to happen soon.....

Is all that training expected to be done after work hours or do you get to do some of it on shift time?

You ask that question as tho you think these guys have no downtime at work....
