Dismantle, remove motor, undo agitator & remove outer shell if required, less damage, less noise, less stress on the kid.

Because the fact that boredmatrix understands that life as a vegetable isn't life, it is merely an existence, is really going to impact upon how he treats his patients.

i highly doubt that you will find any paramedic who will not do everything they can in order to attempt a save - but at the end of the day - there is sometimes nothing you can do but watch someone take their last breath through their bloodied and mangled face and completely flaccid chest wall while their bilateral compounded femur fractures literally pour blood on the ground and whats left of the brain in their head through the open skull fracture stops pulsating! I don't think there will be one coroner in the country who would roast you for that!

are the ignorant ones amoungst us getting the picture yet??
Im hearing ya.

Question for other vollies with CFS or with SAAS who are out in the country.

What are relations like between the two services when they are on scene together at a job like a MVA etc? Do the services get along well and work together or do they not?

The services up here get along really well, everyone understands each others job well and most people know each other on a personal level. It also hepls that we are always working with just local guys, being so far from extra help, it makes you click better when its the same gang.

They should merge the two, no-one misses out, plenty of crew to respond. It would just mean deciding who keeps there name in the town. Would the retained guys join the CFS or would the MFS allow the CFS guys to become retained so the MFS can keep there name?? Lots of other things to consider, which station do they use, what trucks they keep??? Just another point where are the UFU, they haven't weighed into this debate yet or don't they give a stuff about there retained boys.

Bill Jamieson the president of the ufu was an ex SO at Christies.
So is that why he's got it in for your lot then?
Not there anymore, but he has been hanging s*$t on the whole Noarlunga/Mawson group since the i started CFS back in 1993. Maybe he's just shitty because he didn't make it as far up the ranks as a relative of his did. :-o

Bill Jamieson the president of the ufu was an ex SO at Christies.

I may be taking this out of context - but with the exception of a union organisations General Secretary and possibly Industrial Officer - aren't the executive of any union required to be current "operational" (sic) staff?

He maybe still operational??? fairly sure he's not at CD anymore. Good point though.

All Equipment discussion / Re: dummies
« on: January 20, 2008, 09:38:39 PM »

I find that crews get used to 'pulling out dummies' at training and they tend to forget about first aid after removal, cos it was only ever a dummy.

Train how we play as much as we can. You can make it a toxic environment as in CO or something, then there is no smoke but it may be quite dark if possible?

Just some more thoughts :)

i assume you aren't saying put real people in a room with toxic concentrations of carbon monoxide to play dead?

They wont be playing for long.

Just because you have been to heaps of jobs shouldn't make you automatic selection to be an officer nor does the fact that you have been in the service for 10 years. Officers SHOULD be elected on there knowledge, skill, job experience and also the respect that they have from and for there fellow firefighters and even neighbouring brigades, if that person is young so be it.

Coucils cant be expected to inspect every house. People have to be responsible for themselves bottom line.

Yeah fair call, would be a huge job. If there property is a fire trap they are on there own. Things might slowly change when the lazy folk in high risk areas see a truck drive straight past there house and pull up next door to look after a house where the owners have done the right thing and prepared themselves and there land.

All Equipment discussion / Re: dummies

I say use real people volunteering as victims wherever you can. Get them to 'play dead' or be unconscious if they are happy to do that. This makes it so much more real for rescues, and crews are forced to think about handling, keeping their airway open, and they bend like real humans do (lol....duh).

I find that crews get used to 'pulling out dummies' at training and they tend to forget about first aid after removal, cos it was only ever a dummy.

bit hard to practice CPR on a real person though...

Ah its only a few cracked ribs, they'll be right. :-D

Only half-serious about needing more fires.  However, if anyone can think of a more effective way to make bush-fire impact relevant to Joe Average & his Significant Other in the Hills UI....  we're all ears.   :-)

Councils need to do pre fire season checks on house's if they have done the right thing by cleaning gutters / land etc then they are given some form of identification to place on letter boxes / fences etc, if they havent CFS will not put there firefighters lives at risk by putting firefighters between your property and the fire, they can fend for themselves and CFS will look after the people that have done the right thing. Its a hardarse approach but it may make people think.

MFS maybe re-writing the response areas already. Or just our magnificent CRD system working efficiently again.

That is a very odd response indeed, considering Willunga & Sellicks are closer to that area than M/Vale & Christies and Seaford. Nice way for the guys at MV to be woken up, an incorrect page at 8am Sunday morning:? : :-(

Looks good.

Sounds like you'll have plenty of video of Seafood defaulting and MFS appliances already at jobs in no time!

Is it intrinsically safe?

Cheap shot, no need for that kind of fecal vomit.

Dealing with fallen / hung trees is a totally different game to felling trees, both have there own dangers. Done both and i would prefer to drop a tree anyday rather than saw a hung tree.

I believe it just comes down to the fact if your sports orientated or not, if you want/like to play sport you will, if you don't you wont. But i believe that anyone that is an active Firefighter should be trying to keep a slight level of fitness.

SCK might be onto something, the skycrane actually comes with a cannon attachment the points out the front for use at high rise and other no wildfire jobs.
