Unfortunately the main building where the offices, comms , catering and training are was completely gutted. Even the bus that was outside looked like it was hardly affected. Yes vehicles were lost in the fire but they seem to be only the ones that they have in their RCR play area.

In the same complex was the regional operation (communication)unit shed that was gutted. The Vol's from Lincoln were certainly putting on a brave face when I saw them yesterday.

Yeah that is correct the comms/office building was totally destroyed however the shed that houses the vehicles and boat was saved. None of the Vollies cars were damaged and they managed to get a lot of the expensive/important equipment out in time. However there were several cars used only for RCR training that were destroyed.

As for the new base... Its not complete yet, so I guess they will keep their vehicles at the current shed and give their new base the hurry up so they can move in early in the new year.

Fire Fighter Training / Re: Training Night Ideas
« on: October 20, 2009, 12:29:43 AM »
Had a good training night a few weeks ago...got us thinking. The BTO filled a floating collar dam about 40 metres from the appliance, without moving it and only using the standard stowage on the appliance we had to draft from it.

After a bit of discussion and planning we used a 30 meter length of side line connected to a wajax/forestry to london round adaptor which was connected to a dividing breach with a rolled 64mm hose blocking the female end of the dividing breach. The other male end of the dividing breach we connected a couple of lengths of hard suction hose which we attached to the appliance.

We backflushed the hoses to help with priming and it worked really well. Good for getting water out of a flooded house for example  :-)

I was on lincoln 34p the first CFS appliance on the fire ground and as far as i see it the response from lincoln base was very fast with the first appliance out the door within minutes of the page...I would like to thanks all the guys that took the time and came over on strike teams, if it wasn't for you guys lincoln would probably no longer exist. Also without the air assets we had we would have been in big trouble...with the combined efforts of SAMFS, DEH, SES, CFS appliances and air assetts we managed to save A LOT of lives, houses and sheds on tuesday so thanks guys

:)
