The sooner that the initial CRD function is undertaken by an independent party the better. A body or group who is under a performance contract with penalty clauses etc to ensure correct performace, each and every time!

Better than the fiasco of having people who either don't want to or have to due to incopacity undertaking the initial CRD function.

Interesting SAAS and an internal review process for ever dispatch where an issue is raised and they do have mechanisms to manage the staff and ensure such occurrences don't occur again - if this was mirrored elsewehere there would be a lot of unemployed people!

Equal rights - full stop! If who ever, from where ever can meet the standards, then they should be able to undertake the task.

it's when minority power groups are formed that there are problems!

If everyone got on with the job at hand, regardless of race, sex or colour there would be a lot less issues, a lot less frustration and the job would be easier!

SA Firefighter General / Re: Speeding Past Emergency Vehicles
« on: November 07, 2006, 08:38:46 AM »
The joint ESO's are working with Government to have the sped limit reduced to 25 kh/h past any emeregency services vehicle on a road way with beacons operating - ahhhh that will be nice to see and a little more uniformed when we already have 25 km/h for other things!

SA Firefighter General / Re: Control Agencies
« on: November 07, 2006, 08:35:18 AM »
It should be noted that the agencies listed are the combatant authority, not the ones that necessarily do all the foot work...

Pip

Combatant agency - no such thing.

The control agency - lead agency for the incident, which means they lead the incident, not tell others how to do their job (i.e. at a RCR SAPOL will control the incident, but not tell fire (CFS) rescue (SES) and medical (SAAS) how to do their roles or jobs!

then there is SAPOL as the coordinating authority - hence logistics functions etc!

And when did CFS have verticle instructors?????

To the best of my knowledge the original verticle training to some CFS brigades was by SES, then other have used a private provider - who, of course wil only promote the system they use - i.e. twin line.

Seach the net and you will see O/S where there are specialist teams for verticle resuce, who undertake many resuces each year, that use single line resuce. Twin line in SA has been introduced by a private provider and through their association with MFS.

As I said to Ath's comments...there is a whole lot more to the situation than you know...and the media are to blame for the misconceptions...there are insurance issues etc...it's not that simple...and AMR have a very strong hold over the contracts...
[/quote]

Not sure if AMR have a strong hold - but rather that AMR are the only provider that can meet the contract requirements - big difference. Plus AMR have committed HUGE $$$$ to their equipment and aircraft, to meet the CFS contract requirements, from which we all benefit

Country Fire Service / Re: Cave Rescue
« on: October 26, 2006, 02:42:15 PM »
Technically - cave resuce is classified as a confioned space rescue. IN SA - SAPOL STAR and SES (Noarlunga and Whyalla) have trained, accredited and equiped teams for this. I believe there are also limited trained persons within MFS.

As we all know thought, there are many different style of caves - open, sink holes, verticle, horizontel and then those filled with H2O.

Guss in first instance a verticle team from SES, SAPOL or CFS could begin, however if in a hazardous environment or confined then a specialist team would be required.

Interesting point - PR. each year at the end of day light saving, the fire services promote change your smoke alarm battery now!

A 9v in a smoke detector will last several years, but excellent advise to change every year.

SO ..... if we are speaking PR, then obviously this resident did not receive the PR ...... therefore maybe not effective ..... therefore going to asssist the comunity in their time of need isn't a bad option!

i'd rather change a battery at an odd hour (which we have done more than once before) than go to the same location for a fire with persons reported - which as those who have done this know, is not a pleasant thing..AT ALL!

Maybe put them on fire trucks to serve their community - or maybe community education - to educate their community or maybe place them in administrative positions, to research emergency service ites for the betterment of all emergency service personnel across SA

From what I have seen in various parts of the state - what ever they arrive at the station in!!!!!!!

Much like CFS - how many of us get changed before attending the station?

Blinky - KI is like Ngarkat - burns every year, we have debriefs every year and each year we get some things improved - slow wheel to improvement.

Interesting though - we go to NSW and Vic and seam to get most of it right, but can't in our own back yard - go figure???

If i flew cropdusters for a living i'd certainly wouldnt bag the CFS for failing to page me to every big fire as i would be putting my name down for the bombing contract well before the fire season even starts
One lonley crop duster would not even scratch the surface of the CFS contract.

Need to bear in mind that the agricultural aircraft that CFS use, are converted during summer, specifically for fire fighting operations - the sprays are removed and special computer controlled bomber doors fitted - most ag sprayers don't have these, not the money to invest in them.

I say congrats to our bomber pilots and to AMR (the contractor) for the excellent work they have done and do for us and the state - they do things and go places that most pilots would never dream of doing and they are committed to helping us and making our lives easier - not just geting good $$$$$

Country Fire Service / Re: Delays between MFS calling out CFS
« on: October 26, 2006, 09:22:30 AM »
An alarm call doesn't worry me so much, esp during working hours, but reports of fire is another matter entirely. BTW the request for CFS not to go to alarms in MFS area came from our CFS management, not from the MFS.

Well and truely aware that the request came form CFS, and rightly so when a large % of MFS work is instilations - the issue here though, is the time delay and anyone can se that in this instance lack of action was negligent!

What the .......? Most of the judges are staff??? Last time I looked - last year, a hand full of the judges were staff, the majority were and or are current volunteers, who are wearing CFS field uniform.

Easy really - communicate what is vital and requires transmittion - the extra and background can wait until later.

Pip agreed - codes while good if you use them all day everyday, are not so good when used infrequently!

Robert - if a lightning advise was issued you would have done what????

Likewise for a severe weather advise - you would have done what????

You look out the window see severe weather or lightning and you are in a storm ........ end of story ....... it happens!

Fantastic effort to Laura SES - Well done.

Great to see a Volunteer team win, Great to see a SA team win and most of all great recognition that each day there are people out there who Volunteer their time to saving their community and they are amongst the best in the World.

ALL Rescue / Re: 'Heavy' Rescue
« on: October 20, 2006, 12:13:58 PM »
Once upon a time, not that long ago, there were two standards for equipming RCR response vehicles - light or standard rescue could be hand operated, with smaller tools and heavy rescue was hydraulic, with larger tools - i.e. with greater tool capability - power, pressure etc.

Now at last we see one recognised minimum standard for RCR kits - brigades or units can go beyond that but there is at least a minimum.

Interesting though - the standard does not specify the capacity of the equipment force - i.e. difference in hydraulic output, therfore preasure and strength which means different vehicles still caryy different equipment - reduces interoperability!

Yes CFS should have one - we have access to places normally we wouldn't, we see people i their time or need - or at their worst and YES people like to talk over a beer and tell war stories - most keep exact locations and names out but some dont - which discredits the individual, the brigade and the service

SA Firefighter General / Budget Systems
« on: October 18, 2006, 09:48:48 AM »
Activity based Funding - allocation of budgets on incidents attended, specialist roles undertaken etc.

I gues budget modeling needs to start somewhere and more importantly, being public money the process needs to be somewhat transperant with all levels accountable - otherwise there would be people running around buying toys and gadgets, because they can, not because they need them
