however the airport is most likely to be a long way from any fire that the CFS go to.

Personally I Think you did the right thing. It is better to be safe than sorry. But that said use common sense. I have herd of people in the city saying that the fog on mount lofty combined with the red lights on the TV towers is a bushfire and it usally results in a CFS crew driving round in the rain looking for a fire. of course on a day like to day it was a good call.

I believe most volenters would rather be called out for half an hour to a  "large campfire" than a large all day job.

It is sometimes painfully obvious that women arn't "usally" an in sometimes they are as strong as men.

But that women cant take the mental side. That is the individual. They are just as tough and guys and many are more caperble.

No we dont. But check if the other brigades second and third appliances are CFS or Brigade owned.

Do brigade-owned appliances still exist?

My understanding is that there are no brigade owned vehicles anymore - everything is owned by CFS (even the appliances that were funded by Local councils, are now owned by CFS).

And because CFS owns them, they pay for the maintenance / services / repairs for them as well. (Although depending on what goes wrong etc, how much to fix, the funds come from Region, or Group - but an individual brigade doesn't have to pay...)

I got told that my brigade had bought both of our trucks with money we had raised. I am not sure if they are Owned bu us or CFS but they don't have Government plates.

Would it be wise to check with your Brigade to see if anyone else is Grant hunting already. or doesn't it matter if ther are more than one aplication with volDATA

that would improve some things that have happened at our sation. we had a fixed alarm at about 0700 to which about half the brigade came to. I am guessing because we assumed that everyone else would stay in bed.

All Equipment discussion / Re: BA Seats in pumpers
« on: October 02, 2006, 09:53:24 AM »
why dont CFS have MFS type Cylinders and BA set up?  They are ergonomically better, lighter, more comfortable etc.  What we need is BA seats in our urban pumpers and new BA sets.

There are excellent arguments for why we should ahve BA seats in appliances and Im sure CFS know this so the question is why havent they put them into use?  Time to make some changes and put them in amd get new BA sets.

Money
First we need to replsace half the trucks in the state. And get all the PBI gold etc

This a  re post of all the information posts

it is Saturday afternoon about 1500 and a fire had started at on the third floor of mount lofty house. Who do you respond and how do you go about putting the fire out? it is completely up to you.
The wind is blowing smoke away from the road towards Crafers and each CFS crew you call can only have 3 BA operators.
The fire is on the top (third floor) started in a room occupants opened  the door to their doom after going to the botanic gardens and a large backdraft? Caused the fire to spread over half the floor. For some reason know one smelt the smoke and the alarms failed to operate. The emergency stairs door has failed and burning martial has fallen down to the second floor.
Buy the time any appliance gats there the roof is on fire. And most of the top floor is burning
Each brigade can only turn out one appliance

The main reason for this is to se what people would do at a very large fire on arrival.

People tend to have responded

Remember if CFS was to get BA seats they would probarly require thje smaller 300bar cylinders so they would fit.

Being able to jump out of a truck and charge in so quickly does create some possible ECO proplems.

Why? Multiple fire services around the world, including CFS/NSWFB/QFRS all run the larger 9L cylinders in their BA seats with no issue.

Why does it create an ECO issue? You take your tally key and give it to the OIC of your appliance if there is no ECO yet?

I didn't know that 9L cylinders fitted in seats well it was an assumption. but if we had smaller ones they would be reasonable to put in higher rural appliances and you wouldn't break your neck getting out.

Ok it shouldn't be the same people every time. But I don't see a way to fix this.  :?

I think it comes down to some people being more dedicated than others. and that happens in every organisation.

well My aim was to see how people would cope with a very large fire on arrival with slightly limeted resources. and to make it more intresting than small fire in one room on top floor. Which we could put out with a Dry chem and go home.

Call Picking such as the John slob example isn't great but it happens especially when you have a frequent fixed alarm.

But the reason you have a brigade of 20+ people is so everyone goes to a few of the incidents. I don’t know how it works in brigades that are busy but that is how my station works.

Another consideration is the time of the day.
And the personal considerations such as do you have problems with RCR
Lastly certain members can only come to fires during work hours if  the BA operators might be needed.

Responding more crew is good if you need to get more people. However our station has used it and had to wait 2 minuts for the page to be recieved after pressing the mor crew button. Buy which time there had been a stop call.
