They would be taking advantage of some funding left in the pot for licence upgrades, before June 30 (at least, hope the funding is still in the pot!)

Some were perhaps following the lead of various staff & regional HQ who paged out the info.

Not sure why it is such a secret......!

"Other Emergency" isn't necessarily a VA...but through a series of events, SAAS end up repaging anything with "Other Emerg" to the Uni of Adelaide Road Crash research Unit (amongst other things) - even tho it may not be a crash!!

Will dig it out next time I go past the station....

We were advised that QRV's & 14's would not be counted as resources under SACAD unless the GOMP had been submitted, and incorporated into the SACAD data.

I was advised that had occurred for my Group...but alas, the wrong appliance is responded under SACAD to particular incidents - in the case of my area, it is often more appropriate for a QRV or 14 to be responded in the first instance, to a reported rural fire (as per the agreed GOMP with our Group)

So while brigades need to do the right thing, and follow procedures, the data has not been correctly updated in SACAD - meaning SACAD gives you one version of events, which is completely opposite to what the Group has agreed (and most often what is the sensible, and most appropriate thing to do in the circumstances!)

Maybe we left 2011 behind some time ago...?

Perhaps there aren't any new topics that have caught people's attention, to discuss right now?

What you see on various websites is not every pager message that comes out..... it all depends on the filter that has been set up by the person running the site.....

The Road crash research pagers are still coming out - on both ambo & Adelaide fire pagers.  But it would appear with ambo pager messages, that it depends on what the tag at the end of the message says, as to whether a Road Crash Rescue page comes out....and results in jobs that are not road crashes being notified......

Everything else about the tour down under has had massive amounts of planning, and contingencies...... not sure why there wasn't a clean up crew too!!

I would think that it's not so much what the vehicle looks like (although that would be part of it), it's more what he is purporting or holding himself out to be something that he isn't that is the greater problem...!!!

You got it in one straps!!

It is illegal to hold yourself out to be a member of CFS / SES / MFS if you are not such.

While I haven't read the case law on this, I would expect that you wouldn't have to actually say "I am a member of the XXXX service"  in order for it to be illegal.  You could have to look at what impression people get by your behaviour - that may be enough in court for you to be found guilty of impersonation.

As for badging on your private vehicle - I haven't looked at the specifics of that under the Regs, but the issue of the impression it gives to members of the public as to who you are / what you do, could contribute to the impersonation issue above.

As for the issue of a GRN...... I wouldn't think it is illegal for you to have a GRN radio in your vehicle, if you were not an member of the emergency service (after all, for a while, they were installed in vehicles belonging to Council fire prevention Officers) - but you would have to be officially sanctioned by a specific service to have one.

Depending upon what he is claiming, it may well be illegal, as opposed to just being a wannabe

Like much in the CFS, what we have in terms of appliances is often based on our own history.

Yes, Carey Gully has 4 appliances - but historically, they fundraised very hard, to get the funds funds for 4 appliances.  Their Tanker  (sorry, BW6) is 29 years old, their 24 is almost 17 years old, QRV is 18 years old, and the youngest appliance, their 14 is 11 years old - hardly a modern fleet, especially when you compare their fleet to adjoining Groups!

So ultimately, their SFEC hasn't changed since SFEC's came in.  You may not agree with it, but that's the way things appear to have happened.

We all know getting an SFEC changed is difficult - but it seems to work both ways - difficult to upgrade your SFEC, but very little down grades either

Just ask Police what they think of their partly civilianised call centre.....

A few years after it commenced, the on the ground troops still don't have a lot of good to say about them.....

MFS: *CFSRES INC0042 16/12/11 10:16 RESPOND GRASS FIRE, MAWSON RD CHERRYVILLE,MAP:ADL 123 C 3,TG 140, ==IN VICINITY OF TRACK 9. REPORTED SMOKE FROM AIRCRAFT == Alarm level updated to 2 ==ADDED FOR G/O KIESSLING

Lol well outside his realm, heard over the radio he was trying to get lofty almighty team in before the 2nd alarm arrived.... Probably get Norton Summit, Summertown, Oakbank/Balhannah & Cudlee Creek in first....
Does anyone actually know what he was doing? I did see at one stage a page for a Salisbury MFS appliance added to this call, and if i recall even  Strathalbyn 34P?

It would appears that Strath was attached to the wrong job...a short time later, they were attached to the correct job - I think it was a prang at Strath...

Still seems to be a lot of attempts to self respond or self involve up in them thar hills. Also noticed on the same job another brigade who shall remain nameless (but is a town named after the current season) who kept giving sitreps even though they had not been invited to play. There is maintaining situational awareness, and being too involved when your not involved.

Nothing wrong with advising your crews of a fire you may realistically be called to - allows crews to prepare - eg ensure a crew is around & ready if required.

They weren't on standby at their station, or coming up on the radio bugging the OIC that they had a crew if needed - just giving their own members a heads up.

The practice of giving a heads up to brigades who may well be called to incidents is something that is encouraged within the Group.

Isn't

"Adelaide Fire Strath 34P"
"Send Strath 34P"
"Strath 34P mobile incident 81"
"Roger, Strath 34P, Adelaide Fire Out"

Just as easy?

Pip

I'm all in favour of keeping things simple, but
"Adelaide Fire, Strath 34P is K3"
is a lot quicker than saying
"Adelaide fire, Strath 34P is at incident but available to respond".

There are some cases where a K code is much faster and easier.

You can even forget the 'is' part .... and even the 'Adelaide Fire' part.

Have to agree. Using callsigns at the start of every transmission is NOT required. The whole point is once you establish who is calling, and who they are calling, until an OUT is given, that is the conversation that is happening.

In phone conversation we say"Hi Pip, this is Fred calling". Pip would say oh Hi Fred, Fred doesnt then keep saying Pip at the start of every sentence, nor does Pip (not that I have spoken on the phone with her...who knows??). Hence radio does not need this either!!

Duuno if my conversation would go quite like that - Fred is a lad of few words!!!

The difference between a radio conversation, and a phone conversation is that you only have two participants on the phone conversation.  On a radio conversation, there may be multiple conversations occurring / trying to happen on the one talkgroup.

Having said that, the CFS FGP needs to be changed, to reflect the changes in our radio communication technology, so we can get rid of many of the pro words (like over, out etc) and try & teach people to use less of the radio time.

Pro words like over / out etc came about because if you were listening to an HF radio, it was often the only way you knew someone had finished their message, as it was often very difficult to hear on those type of radios!
