Political suicide if they go down that path....WA are paying 2X the pay that our CFS staff are getting paid, for less headfuuuks, just try it Rann....Wanka!!!

SASES / Re: Yardwork to do!
« on: April 06, 2010, 09:45:11 AM »
Lads its that time of year again, once you finish clearing out gutters for people that "I didnt know leaves filled the gutters, and bugggered things up",.... well seeing as your out to taskings and wet, can you nip around again and finish off my yardwork.
I would have done it myself, but unfortunately I have been diagnosed with CBF and am having trouble doing the jobs I used to do!
On top of having CBF, the footy started this weekend, it was the opening game of the Baseball season and Oakbank was on, so ill leave a list of what needs doing pinned to front door....can you also try to keep the noise down with your powered equipment, wouldnt want to aggrivate my CBF!.
Whats that I hear you ask,"CBF" what vile ailment has struck down our fellow SAFF member, its the same ailment that a lot of the people that your taskings suffer from CBF or as the medical field know it "Cant be Furked".
So as my "ailment" has flared this weekend, could you once you have finished clearing gutters with the water entering through roof and water may flood premises or even small branch blocking driveway from my fellow CBF sufferers, whip round and take care of the items on my extensive list, after all I pay my ESL!! :-P

9 mins isn't to bad, as what you will often find is the SAAS call taker will take the details and it will get dispatched, as you will see the page, but they will stay on the line a few more mins to get more out of the caller, then they might notify SAPOL, there goes anther couple of mins, then they ring the fire service, then the fire service rings ALERTS for those brigades that don't put data into the system, then after arthur, martha and dulcie work out who to send the page will go out. 9 mins, doesn't take long.

Darren W.T.F is wrong with you!!!!............Arthur, Martha and Dulcie are no longer on alerts, seems Arthurs hearing aid caused feedback, Marthas incontenance pants werent up to it and Dulcies false teeths base plate has cracked and the replacement set is still 4 months off.
Mavis, Audrey and Davo are now the primary call takers....be careful with Audrey...shes fiesty!!!

Jaff -'succession planning'(or lack of), probably one of the single biggest failings in the CFS currently.

Agreed COBB, its my pet hobby horse at the moment, but its suprising the amount of apathy towards it from the punters that need to be trained, to future proof our service!  :x

Country Fire Service / Re: GO/DGO/Duty Officer Responding to Incidents
« on: March 09, 2010, 10:16:19 PM »
Mmm not a bad solution JAFF, but for most incidents; ie minor VA, alarm calls, small fire incidents, neither a group officer nor a command car should be necessary. Can be run from an appliance and by the brigade easily.

Agreed, my suggestion wasn't for any of the situations you described, 2nd alarm and or special circumstances would be my suggestion!

Country Fire Service / Re: GO/DGO/Duty Officer Responding to Incidents

And thats why noone ever gets any incident control experience. Rife in a lot of groups. Some people just cant let go of certain things when they step up the ranks.

Perhaps the duty officer can go forward, to "support" and not take over, thereby delivering the incident controller an appropriate vehicle and comms setup, but can "stepup" if needed..... succession planning, who woulda thunk it!

I've seen "Unconscious entrapment" used a fair bit, consistency would be nice...SACAD God comes to save the day.

"Appears to have snuffed it" perhaps.

SACAD was on MYTHBUSTERS the other night the conclusion.......BUSTED!

Jaff
You might also have noticed that CFSVA hasn't stepped in here to shut down the thread.
'nuff said about that.

I think all the other things you question have been covered in the thread
already, or in other threads going back to when this site was started. Not
going to do your research for you.

Personally, I really hope it doesn't come to action. I hate confrontation.

Alan, has the CFSVA ever closed down a discussion on this site? or would they rather the "faceless rankless" posters actually call or email their concerns directly to the people who represent them so they can be actioned, instead of a diatribe on here!

As for you doing my research for me, that I won't ask you to do, I will get my secretary to do it for me  :-D

As for your personal aversion to confrontation, I think we all share that one......but its getting to the stage where enough is enough and very public questions might need to be asked and answered, we deal with smoke almost daily its seems to be the mirrors that are screwing us over!

Cheers Jaff

Basically, we need some form of feedback from the CFSVA. Even a time frame for what we expect would be enough for the moment.

I tend to think that any form of action not sanctioned by CFSVA would be treading a fine line. The whole idea is for a coordinated effort!

This discussion came as an extension to the knowledge that a few vollies paid an impromptu visit to a minister.

Why a fine line? The CFSVA have hinted that they have teeth with the questionnaire, now they need to back it up and bare them a little. Anything not sanctioned by them will effectively undermine what WE WANT them to do.

I like the idea, but we need to be pressuring the right people to make it happen.

Agreed!......... "United we stand" is all well and good, but if it is only a disjointed rabble it will be VERY counterproductive!. So contact your CFSVA  state reps and put some pressure on IF you are serious about a protest!

.....one could say typical CFSVA organising

This "protest/display" who mooted it? from my brief readings its not the CFSVA, but some disgruntled(most of us are)members! and NO formal talks have taken place other than these discussions on here! Am I wrong?

It would be interesting to see if Wayne Thorley senior CFSVA rep(& SA firefighter member) has any thoughts on this matter.
For this to be of any effect other than annoyance, it needs to be coordinated for maximum effect, as the CFSVA have sent out questionares to all pollies with the relevant info as to the underfunding of the CFS they(CFSVA) would be the obvious choice to coordinate the troops into a united front, not a disjointed rabble egged on by agitators!
Have the CFSVA been approached with regards to them being involved in any actions? If not ,why not?
Have group officers been approached to see if this (or any) propossed action is the true feeling of their group/groups? If not, why not?

My two cents!

(please note, this is not a criticsm of anyone but recognising the need to be coordinated if any effective action is to be taken)

SAAS / Re: Move out the way! New SPRINT and BRU campaign
« on: December 28, 2009, 08:08:47 AM »
It is pretty good to see that SAAS are taking a fairly modern approach to getting their messages and info out there, however I feel that people have trouble giving way to normal sized Ambulances let alone these new ones. Too many times have I seen idiots just race in front of an Ambulance entering an intersection. I think that there needs to be more hard hitting advertising to bring peoples attention around. Perhaps SAPOL can allow Ambulances to be fitted with cameras which Paramedics can use to report people who blatantly don't give way?

And maybe mount .50cal weapons on the front of the ambulance for serial offenders, the bright side of the situation would be medical attention would be close at hand! :-D
