Helicopters can't do everything !!

but for everything else......charge up the Government Mastercard and get some time with the big DC10 and 45,000 litres.....at the cost of a small country per hour :)

If we stopped buying new PPE and trucks we could afford more helicopter time.....hmm....might send a suggestion to the Chiefs......i mean we're supposed to come up with cost saving suggestions arent we?

NOW your getting the hang of it!

Country Fire Service / Re: Fewer volunteers join CFS ranks
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:59:23 PM »
We have the exact issue that you describe Bajdas, in fact are probably one o f the southern brigaes you describe, we have a constant stream of people wanting to join, but we can only take so many, and simply don't have room, we will be very selective, and some will be dissapointed, or angry, as they don't get it, CFS is seen to be losing members yet we are knocking people backk.

Darren this maybe true of the more peri-urban brigades, but sadly it certainly isnt for the vast majority of the state!

So the Mt Barker Paint fire has brought out the usual complaints, will people do as normal on the site, and vent and then not follow it up with our volunteer association.
Whether you believe in them or not, without complaints from us they cannot action it.
So follow it up with your brigade/group rep or flick a post to Wayne Thorley, hes a member on here.

Jaff, my post said the short term answer is to move an appliance.
Anything like an amalgamation in the CFS will take forever

Agreed! But an additional Urban appliance is the preferred option!

Forever has no end date, I think amalgamation will be progressed way faster than that, sorta like a parting gift I rekon!

Fact: Some brigades cannot get basic procedures correct, let alone more complex procedures, just listen to Adelaide Fire having to deal with craap radio procedures from bozo's that should know better!     FAAARK ME and thats even before they leave the station!

DEH overachiving once again..

The above DEH overachieving once again is a quote from zippy!  My question to y'all is, You have a set area to burnout in a predetermined time, to keep up with a scheduled burnplan and it starts to spotover,

(1) is this poor fire management as seems to be suggested?

(2)Or is this just one more part of the job, that we risk manage?

Me I am going with the second option, for my money that is why we brief crews beforehand on the importance of keeping a lookout!

Thoughts?
