SA Firefighter General / A New Look for SA Fire Fighter.....
« on: January 15, 2007, 01:49:46 PM »
Hi All

We are preparing to switch over to a whole new look for SA Fire Fighter. We are also making changes to how the site is constructed. The changes will enable us to much more easily keep pace with software upgrades.

So over the next day or two you will see the site go offline while we conduct this work.

If all things go well the site should not be offline very long.

If we hit any snags we will be back when we can :wink:

we hope you like the new look! :-D

The pic is just an example to wet the appetite........ 8-)

SA Firefighter General / SERVER FAILURE
« on: December 31, 2006, 02:00:30 PM »
Although we use world class server providers we have had a catastrophic failure. All sites hosted on this particular server have been lost and unless local backups had been made the restored data is two weeks old. We are yet to hear the details of exactly what happened to the server but is was severe.

We are coming to terms with the amount of work we have lost and also the impact to you the user.

We will be putting steps in place to have a more rigorous back up plan.

That's all for now. :-(

We are experiencing a problem with user registration and this is difficult to diagnose. We will upgrade the site very soon. You will see the site go off line possibly for several hours. We will limit the downtime but it could be longer. Appreciate your patience.

Country Fire Service / CFS Star
« on: June 25, 2006, 08:59:12 PM »
It has recently come to our attention that CFS corporate has refused a request for a brigade to use the cfs star on station clothing. We don't have all the details but understand the brigades request was disallowed without discussion or any type of consultation.

Of course this policy has been discussed before and there are varying views. We find the decision by CFS corporate to be a very strange one.

In these days of low morale and rapid change, volunteers are under increasing pressure, we see the issue of identity and belonging to be a significant issue.

Although safirefighter.com for the most part tries to be impartial in most debates this one has raised our ire. It is our view that volunteers should have the right to serve under the insignia that the volunteer determines to be the right one. If a brigade chooses the historical insignia of the CFS then that should be allowed without question!

Do you feel consulted? We wonder if CFS have bothered to listen to the undercurrent of ill content surrounding the introduction of the corporate logo. Although the logo has been around for a few years now, many brigades have successfully purchased clothing with the star. It is now apparent that many suppliers have been warned by CFS corporate that reproducing the star is a breach of copyright.

If you feel strongly about this issue please comment here and make your selection in the poll above.

We think it is time that CFS corporate listens to the volunteer not simply dictate another inane policy to the people who make the service possible.

Reminder that if someone posts inappropriate content advise the moderation team who will act next time they visit the site. Flaming the poster feeds the issue.

We would prefer that the thread continue on it's topic, while ignoring the errant post.

Thoughts on this are welcome...

SA Firefighter General / RCR Challenge

2006 STATE JOINT SERVICES ROAD CRASH RESCUE CHALLENGE

Volunteers Needed

8th-9th April

Wayville Showgrounds

As reported in the last edition of "Volunteer", this year’s State Road Crash Rescue Challenge will be staged again in conjunction with the Adelaide Motor Show at Wayville Showgrounds on the weekend of 8-9 April.

This will be the third joint agency competition held in this State, and the second comprising all three Services, the MFS having competed for the first time last year.

International Assessors grade this a "World Class" Event !

Whether your Brigade is RCR or not, this is an event worth attending. The first interagency RCR Challenge, staged at Brukunga in 2004, set the standard. Of the 6 Assessors chosen to judge the three disciplines, 5 were from interstate.

Apart from the distinction of being the only State to hold a mixed agency competition, we were adjudged to be the "best event of its type in Australia".

>From that inaugural event, we now have interstate Assessors vying for the opportunity to judge in Adelaide, at an event that is described as "world class".

Come and see for yourself!

~~~~ VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED ~~~~
HELPERS ARE STILL REQUIRED DURING THE WEEK LEADING UP TO THE "CHALLENGE", AS WELL AS THE WEEKEND ITSELF !!!
Please phone Augie Gray, Competitions Coordinator on 0438 433 007
I am part of another forum where most people use a photo of themselves as an Avatar alongside their posts. Really good to see who you are talking too.
I wanted to float the idea here, I think it would be great. Place your vote and we shall see what happens. Of course it will always be your choice if you do or don't. Anonymity is always respected but some may want to be out there.
Cheers
SA Firefighter General / SAPES Games
« on: February 01, 2006, 08:24:01 AM »
The South Australia Police & Emergency Services (SAPES) Games are set to hit Adelaide again from Friday 3 – Saturday 11 March 2006.
The 2006 SAPES Games are designed to promote a healthy lifestyle, encourage team work and foster partnerships with other emergency service organisations. The Games held in 2004 were a huge success with the participation of 1,110 competitors from 23 agencies.
The 2006 SAPES Games will commence with an opening ceremony in Victoria Square on Friday 3 March from 12.00pm – 2.00pm. As part of the festivities the highly anticipated tug of war competition and muster bucket brigade (demonstration only) will take place at the opening ceremony. A new component to the Games will be the closing party to be held on Saturday 11 March at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Details are on the SAPES website at www.sapes.com.au, and further details from the VFBA if needed
I had been attemting to keep up with the volume of Media Releases and Incident Updates coming from SACFS. But over the last week several hundred of these have been received.
So you will have noticed that the main sites news is a few days behind. We will try to add a few generic updates soon but it's time consuming.
If you want to see all the updates please see the CFS site under the news media tab http://www.cfs.org.au/
