Title: level one (BFF1) gloves
Post by: rescue5271 on January 06, 2005, 11:53:07 AM
How many people have those green gloves in their brigade/group? I have found these gloves to be not good and the pair I had lasted not long as the where too small. I made a call to Dave at mercuary fire he came down put on a BBQ and those that where there bought some gear and also had a look at a porta CAF unit very nice.

I was very happy to get the ball rolling on this night and those that where there really enjoyed what dave had to offer and what deals he can do. I would say to those people that only deal with the one firm, look around and see what others have to offer to you.

Thanks for the BBQ,would be nice if other firms did that
 :)

id agree that the green gloves are crap...
its all our brigade has at the moment... and ive found that they become slippery as hell as soon as theyre wet, they wear holes into them easily and shrink too...

theyre also (like most leather gloves) a pain to get on/off when theyve been wet then dried in a retarded shape..

ive found normal riggers gloves to be a better option, although they are just leather as well, they dont seem to get slippery

I have found that the gloves that we have from mercury fire(dave at blackwood cfs) are great work well in the wet, have washed them now 3 times and they come up clean. Not slippery at all and they have not worn out yet.

Me thinks Fire03Rescue works for an fire equip. distributor by the looks of there last post.......

However, i could be wrong.

Or he could just be a brigade equipment officer.....if he was a distributor then he would just ring Dave for a quote like every other rival does!!

check with group equipos as I believe a new standard rural glove has been adopted cfs wide. My understanding is that they are similar to a rigger but with a closed elastic wrist band to prevent burns and debris hitting the wrist.

Does anyone have access to the CFS policy/standards for protective clothing? I would be happy to host it on safirefighter.

To strikeathird
No I don't work for a distributor, just trying to find some good gloves at a good price.
Nothing more nothing less

No worries mate.

*In relation to riggers being a good glove...I don't believe they offer enough wrist / lower arm protection.....

"I believe a new standard rural glove has been adopted cfs wide"

That's a problem really isn't it? If things are adopted CFS wide and those of us out there actually buying the stuff don't know about it?

I think a standard glove is called for, but the decision needs to be made by some one who doesn't just put them on in there cozy office, and say " THAT'S IT, WE WILL MAKE THOSE THE STANDARD!"  .... The decision needs to be made or at least suggested by the fire fighters that wear the various gloves every day at incidents and trainings alike.

i have been told that the new approved gloves for basic firefighting are the pacific gloves level 1 , they are a medium cuff glove and have been a direct result of the Phoenix report,i brought mine thru NOWA as i find that they deliver quickly and are good on price. i  got to know the efficiency of Nowa when i was my previous groups GEO.
my advice is shop around and compare the prices because everyones after the sale , i used this method and saved my group a large amount which inturn enabled us to buy other items .
known suppliers are
Nowa
Fire and Rescue
EP fire and safety
they are a few i can remember

Hi All,

We have been using the green gloves in conjunction with structural gloves. They have been ok, but we have noticed all the problems bought up here before. We are currently trying the new yellow structural gloves, and now the new white rural gloves. Not bad really.

I used to get the same with my yellow gloves... although a green stain is worse than a yellow one ;)

Yep...  Have all had multi coloured hands as a result of a job before...  The yellow from the old long cuff gloves was worse i think.. Never had the problem with the greens..

My rescue gloves dont do it and my new gloves dont either.

Yellow cross fires for rescue!
Green wildfires for most jobs (trick to getting the green out, soak them for a while and let them dry before wearing for the first time)
Yellows (can't remember brand) for structural

I have a pair of the yellow / cream ones for RCR (Will go and look at the brand shortly)...

Grey pair for general use...

And a pair of L3 Structural gloves with Thermal liner for Structure fires.

Firstly, your rescue gloves should not discolour your hands, as you should be wearing a liner nitrile, etc. glove underneath.

I have found the green gloves ok, yes they get a little slimy but it hasnt really affected me so far. As for the colour, the gloves are nearly 4 years old and still make my hands green when they get wet. To pass of the green hands just tell people you're turning into the incredible hulk!!!  :-D

Edit: Typo

I have found that the Wildfire green level one gloves are about the same as the cream Pacific ones, except cream doesn't stain your hands. Both get hard when they dry out, both come apart at seams... Rubbing dubbin into them works well to keep them softer.

The yellow structural gloves are filtered. Used some new ones on a CFB course recently, much better. Called Super Mars 3. Awesome. Not much more expensive than the yellow ones. the liner stays in them and they have fairly good dexterity.

Any wildfire gloves that meet the relevant AS/NZS are ok to wear for CFS.
I think the white/cream Pacific Wildfire gloves are best we've tried yet.
My current pair has outlasted the previous two pairs of green ones.
Another pair I wore whilst clearing gorse & blackberries from out back
of the shed did the work of 4 or 5 pairs of Protector brand riggers gloves before developing their first hole. At 23/15ths of the price, that works
out as exceptional value for general labouring use.

Have tried gloves dubbined & undubbined. My perception is that undubbined last a bit longer. Don't think there is much in that.  Dubbin certainly makes them slipperier when wet, and I don't much like that.

cheers

Well, to bring this thread into '09 in style...

The yellow structural gloves are filtered. Used some new ones on a CFB course recently, much better. Called Super Mars 3. Awesome. Not much more expensive than the yellow ones. the liner stays in them and they have fairly good dexterity.

Its been a while since CFB, are they all using the ESKA Super Mars 3's now? I've been seeing them around the place a bit - is CFS looking for a new structural glove?

Although at just over twice the price of the current Pacific L3 gloves, I can't see CFS jumping on that bandwagon just yet...

But then again, CFS did trial the never realised Lion L3 gloves for oh-so long it seemed.
