FSA often do have fire cover while they are working in the forest. Quite often you drive past them and see a fire king or 2 parked on a track or next to the edge of the forest where they are.

Didnt realise that it served at Kadina. By my reckoning that appliance has had 3 different registration numbers over its life!

Not sure where you got your info but I dont believe the ACCO with the pump on the front served at Kadina. It was built as a prototype in the Lloyd Johns days. Then went to Millicent who had the successful tender for it. After serving there for quite a few years it went to Southend and then finally to Tanunda until it was pensioned off in 2000.

NPWS and FSA dont employ casual firies here in the South East. If they need help they use CFS or get crews from further away.

You sure you are talking about the MFS?look at some other fire services. At least the MFS give applicants an oppurtunity to participate in the testing. A lot of the sons of firies cant get in.

Victor Harbor MFS did send 2 appliances to the job. The same for most MFS regional stations with multiple appliances, they will only put the appliance code for one on the message.

Remember there is also SPAM that the CFS offers and also similar types of support offered by many companies nowadays to help deal with personal issues.

Can someone tell me a bit about the pumps on these. Someone told me that they have an auto pressure governor on the pump like the latest MFS Scanias. The MFS one is set up to compensate for fluctautions in supply pressure and to regulate flow even when nozzles are closed or opened.

Well you dont wear PBI at strike teams do you?? You shouldnt be. The CFS has made the decision to buy the PBI and they take the responsibility for it. As for the appliances, what did Belair get as a new truck?? A 34P. times do change.

Yeah well it was the state government that allocated the money for this stuff to be purchased so it is not up to a snotty nosed group officer to hold back on it. He didnt filtered buy it. The vollies deserve the clothing.

SA Firefighter General / Re: SAAS Responding Other Services..
« on: January 27, 2007, 12:15:50 PM »
We have an arrangement down here in the South East whereby the fire service/rescue resource is responded to all vehicle accidents. Whether the initial call is received by sapol or saas they pass it on to fire/rescue. We are often reponded within 2 mins sometimes sooner. If its only minor we usually are utilised for fire cover and traffic control if nothing else.

« on: January 26, 2007, 03:03:18 PM »
If you have a romtek type set up for fixed alarms it will indicate where the fixed alarm is. Some stations like Woodside that only have a few fixed alarms and no romtek dont know who it is until someone opens up the station.

Only some MFS firies have 2 sets of PBI at the moment. A second set issue is being rolled out gradually.

Yeah well if you read the new bushfire book that is out. It outlines the fact that one of the fires that originated in NSW and ended up in Canberra was a several KM hike in to put out.

Mc Laren Flat 34 is an Isuzu from one of the previous builds. It is handy for officers from other brigades to know what resources are available for back up. The GO doesnt go to every call does he/she.

There were 3 of those Mitsubishi Pumpers built at around the same time and none of them had memorable lives.
(1)Mt Barkers had pump problems from day one and ended its life prior to 20 years and is now being used as a tanker over on KI.
(2) Strathalbyns had pump problems as well and was retired short of its 20 years.
(3) Lobethals was ok and got sent to Murray Bridge a couple of years ago before getting parked upside down on the main corner of Murray Bridge enroute to a job.
