Heres another pager message sent out to Region 5 GO's and DGO's about the wind

1909357 12:26:05 16-08-06 CFSR5: GO's & DGO's: CURRENT FDI KEITH GFDI 6, NCTE FFDI 24, MTG FFDI 15. IF WINDS INCREASE TO PREDICTED SPEEDS FDI's COULD REACH 50-60

they might as well make it official that the fire season starts a few months earlier than expected because of this wind

Only in the South East!

They go a week or three without rain and they are worried - welcome to South Australia and welcome to the rest of the states dramas :-)

Women of the Fire Industry / Re: women in the service's
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:18:11 PM »
When the siren sounds, when the pager alerts us, when we don our trusted yellow PPE we are all fire fighters, not men and women, we are fire fighters serving our community.

Each and everyone of us has limitations, barriers and hurdles to get over, we all just need to be big enough to ask.

When you wear the yellow, you are protecting your community and they don't care your sex, race, age or aptitude, what they care about is you being a professional and competent fire fighter and helping them in their time of need!

Incident Operations / Re: RCR - Winns Rd, Blackwood 120806
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:06:17 PM »
Macca - who gives a toss about the vests - the road appeared blocked - so whos driving through!!!!!

Mmm good to see a red helmet in the thick of it - interesting when none of the red helmets have participated in the RCR comps now for some time yet they feel the need to get in there - once a fire fighter always a fire fighter - hard to let go!

As for responding to fixed alarms - not officially, but they still ghost!

Incident Operations / Re: Servo fire - Brighton rd
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:01:18 PM »
Either very late 80's or early 90's!

From memory CFS did change of quarters all over the place and I think both eden Hills and Belair attended the incident - although not sure if they saw action or were there on standby!

The airport tender did respond - due to it's hight quantities of foam and foam generation - to have it leave Adelaide Airport Police escort was required front and rear as it is exceeds limits for width on public roads!

If people are so pasionate - maybe it's time to get off your bum, put pen to paper and write to the Chief officer - Euan Ferguson and let him know your thoughts, either individually or collectively!

Good to see Greg promoting his view and having the guts to stand up for it and address his opinion with the CO - maybe others who feel so strongly about it should do the same!

After all - who's service is this (I don't need an answer here, i know) but I do think that if you feel strongly enough about it, then do something about it - don't just winge!

Country Fire Service / Re: Why has this forum started to suck???
« on: August 09, 2006, 12:09:12 PM »
I didn't recall the quote on the front page of the forum calling all of the CFS six percenters here.....

But it appears that the forum has collected it's fair share and they are vocal.

The great thing, is it shows how uneducated people are in CFS and how little "real" information is distributed below GO or Captains in CFS.

Maybe then the forum, although often off the topic does distribute some real information, you just need to sift through the ashes to find it!

Hypotheticals / Re: brothers down
« on: August 03, 2006, 04:21:22 PM »
Basic rule of fire fighting - look after your own first, then attend to the rest!

Multiple lines in - 1 from the first floor, directing a stream down to the floor below to give the crew down some protection, although not enough to steam them, 2nd, 3rd and 4th crew in to undertake rescue - combination of holding the fire back - direct attack and holding the fire back whilst other retrieve the crews - having paramedics ready, willing and able as you bring the down crews out of the door!

Country Fire Service / Re: HV stripe/logo colours
« on: August 03, 2006, 04:14:08 PM »
Who cares if we have a logo that looks like CFA - they still have poxy red trucks with limited crew protection and alike!!!!!!

Would be nice to see CFS adopt the standard!

Isn't there an SOP or SAP on taking photos at incidents???

They can be a very useful training tool!

Other Government Agencies / Re: SES trailer mounted flood pumps
« on: August 02, 2006, 02:50:31 PM »
Similar fittings to the bombers that CFS use, so there are already coupling adaptors around!

Maybe SES has supplied those too!

Better SES have a pump trailer on site than having to comit a fire appliance and crew all night!
Could also be useful for CFS to use for larger fires  - set SES up at water courses/dams to relay pump up to CFS - would save reversing down to dams as we have in different fires across the Adelaide Hills and also KI  :-)

People have enough issues now with the funds they contribute out of their own pockets for CFS - let alone to go towards a union.

FRAG did achieve a lot, for all of CFS, however their focus was primarily for the busy and very active brigades, however what they raised was aprofile and that filtered to all brigades.

Just a pity that FRAG was a huge commitment for those that were on it and they too had lives, work, families, social lives and CFS brigade commitments.

There was a poster years ago about how to set up a zone - it wasn't rocket scienece, nmore comon sence - ie flat, clear of obsticles with a clear approach and departyure path and site lighting (ie vehicle head lights crossed over)

Country Fire Service / Re: a bit harsh
« on: May 17, 2006, 11:37:29 AM »
Maybe Seaford are the only one with the balls to publicly admit that they have a day time crewing problem - mean while many others stick their heads in the sand and think that things will get better, whilst others put systems in place (i.e. automactic dual response) to fix the problems!

It's not a hard solution and congratulations to Seaford for putting it out there - it's time more brigades and units wre honest and up front - Volunteer services Australia wide are having problems and it's something that services and state and fedral governments need to address!

Country Fire Service / Re: use of training ground's
« on: May 17, 2006, 11:33:12 AM »
Training grounds - what all three of them Brukunga, South Coast and naracoorte - na never had that issue - used Brukunga a few times when they had a deal going for training - have subesequently used it for additional training, above what we may need and had to pay for consumables!

Have NO problem with that, the centres should be there for everyone to use on an equal basis, not just those who are cloes to them and abuse them (or should I say over use them)

« on: May 17, 2006, 11:27:07 AM »
Yes they are high - but I'm sure they were engineered accordingly and that they have gone through the appropriate T & D phases!

Hard to keep everyone happy all of the time - when general purpose appliances are produced.

Haven't heard to many old people complain about getting in - usually it's the younger fitter ones who have nothing better to do than complain - the older ones seam to 'get on with the job'

Great photos!

I noted with interest in both the TV footage and paper footage that SES appeared to be the only ones with full PPE on - including respiratory protection and eye protection! Certainly made the USAR SES crews look far more professional than some of the others there

All Equipment discussion / Re: Structural Boots
« on: May 17, 2006, 10:55:14 AM »
There are people in the CFS that wear the pull ups. I intend to purchase some leather pull ons as soon as I get issued with new structure PPE. As far as Im concerned, if a piece of equipment meets all relevent Australian firefighting standards, and perhaps if other Australian Fire Services use them, Im happy to spend the money privately and use them.

Leather pull ons??????? There are very few fire services in Australia using them now!!!!

Most have transitioned or are transitioning to the ankle style boot with zip, due to their ability to be worn at a HUGE range of incidents and their better ankle and foot support

OFF Topic / Re: Clipsal500 V8 race
« on: May 17, 2006, 10:45:00 AM »
Thats what i am aiming for P_F to be trackside at Clipsal 500 2007 maybe we might be on the same trackside fire & rescue crew... just out of curiosity does CAMS also pay for tickets if i want to take family or friends along with meĀ  :?

Robert - good to hear your enjoying it - it's a great past tiome and is usually fun to watch - rarely do you see much action, but track side seats are second to none!

In relation to the tickets - with all previous Clipsals - Marshals have been suplied with their ticket and a guest ticket, the last year marshals were also given guest general entry tickets - aimed at enabling family to come in - however that seams to change each year - but you will alsways get at least one guest pass

Best training with a flash hood - it's just another piece of PPE - it doesn't make you invincible or unburnable!

Good to see the issue progressing - will be nice to have everything tried and tested before SACAD starts in a year or two  :-D
Might help to iron out the bugs

Country Fire Service / Re: Leave to appear
« on: April 20, 2006, 03:34:21 PM »
thanks oz fire...unfortunately, I am unable to say anything good about the process and would relish an opportunity to publish something when it's over.

Maybe someone in CFSHQ can grab this opportunity and will hopefully publish something - to aid everyone - both in the future should it occur again and also to let everyone know exactly what does occur and why - may be the eye opener some people need and make them 'take five'

SA Firefighter General / Re: Driver Age
« on: April 20, 2006, 03:31:35 PM »
Driving on farms etc when young is an advantage as is undertaking defensive driving courses (have completed a few both on and off road)

I guess my greatest concern is speed, high powered cars and young inexperienced and over confident drivers - which as many of us have witnessed often ends in disaster!
