I'm not sure who programmed what into SACAD but if you ask me, some of the teething issues might require some wisdom teeth being removed.

Of late, I have seen some rather interesting appliance/station responses and movements to firecalls!

Depends which agency you are talking about.

For CFS though, it starts with the SOPs which most people seem unfamiliar with and station sequences and response zones were signed off on by groups, regions and state.

One thing's for sure, we have never seen so many 2nd, 3rd or even 4th alarms in such a short time.

The responses have always been greater alarms, CFS has just never labelled them as such.

It makes it extremely easy for units to just pop up on radio and say "transmit second alarm" much better than the old system of listing off brigades.

128
Those accidental dispatches have only occurred where additional appliances are being added to jobs and are human error due to confusion with call signs being given over radio (ie flinders group BWC calling themselves "stirling tanker") and operator error in comms with confusion over shortened callsigns.

Please keep in mind that shortening your appliance callsigns on radio is sometime more of a hindrance than a help.

CFS are constantly updating unit call signs so hopefully that should be fixed soon... Same issue in a number of areas.

Re the hospital alarm it boils down to the size of the ESZs being inappropriate and an EMA plan being put on for an area that never use to be EMA. Glen osmond have been to a number of jobs uP there since SACAD started.

Personally I'd like to know why the regional duty officer needs to know about fire alarms.

I believe CFS have bought ipage

Adelaide Fire is now using ipage also

131
Moorok 34, Murray bridge 24P and port macdonnel 34 had all defaulted  to K7 , relocated to, Dalkeith station, hence why the system reccomended them.

No operator error in this case.

no operator error indeed (which is a good thing), so now let's praise a system that can achieve this for which no operator, no matter how inept could achieve

ultimately you may need to find a section straight enough to provide enough visibility to oncoming traffic.

Some times even that doesn't matter.  We were visible from about 1-2K's from night and some filtered still nearly ran me over.

Great advice :D

Advice I give people new to traffic control, "Always assume the public are drunk/stupid/homicidal and have at least two escape routes."

Yep, still no available cure for 'stupid'

I assume you just call extra trucks to provide the road blocks away from the incident zone.

Yes, shutting the road could very well mean placing a truck a large distance from the incident itself.
If the road is 80 or 100 the use of cones, eflares, signage (some brigades carry 'traffic hazard ahead' signs) may help, but ultimately you may need to find a section straight enough to provide enough visibility to oncoming traffic.

Meh, shut the road till its safe.

I think that its rubbish having such short notice for such a long deployment, but it all comes down to poor planning, i have done a 3 day KI deployment on 10 mins notice yet everyone else on the same plane had 12 hrs notice.

Yep, noticed yesterday Sturt group got 1 hr notice to organise 3 appliances with crews for a 3 day deployment? And they wonder why people cant manage it.

Is this likely for more personnel or specialised fleet, due to some form of asset protection..???

If it were personnel alone, then I would have thought a mini bus with personnel on board would be more efficient than driving BRT into the country..!?!?

Just curious (again not being critical, more intrigued)..

Cheers
Shane

More than likely BRTs for asset protection in the townships. Not point having personell without equipment to get to work.

Question: Whose idea was it to break up the daily incident number system into ....god knows another groups..

Isn't the whole point of the DIN, for the comcen to differentiate between each and every job.

I would have thought each DIN, has a different AIRS incident number.

E.g

INC0001 RESPOND STRUCTURE COMMERICAL BLA
INC0001 RESPOND CHANGE OF QUARTERS

As the COQ is an action caused by Incident 0001 ;)

"AIRS numbers", PIRs are sequential for every job added to AIRS, these push automatically from SACAD regardless of the agency or DIN and are always unique, ie; they dont reset at midnight.

Each Comcen generates its own DINs which are meant to represent part of the workload and contain COQ. Since the transition to SACAD, SAFire and SASES events seem to have split into there own sets of DINs.

So yes, every event is meant to have its own DIN, however SES get there own counter.

Mmm interesting. Looks like they have accidentally created a saas event and then attached you to a "saas job".

There is no "assist saas" event type in cad for fire or ses attendance, hence why we are seeing a lot of "assist resident" with further details saying the job is assisting ambos.

That job "request saas assist" is actually used to send a message to the Ambos for them to attend a fire job  in 'interCAD'' which is the link between safire, saas and spoil when SACAD is brought fully online.

Hope that makes sense.
Cheers Alex makes sense now....  Interesting that Assist SAAS is quite an often event for MFS/CFS yet its not in CAD, would have thought it would have carried over from BOMS

Yep, ya would think so. Hopefully brigades are putting in forms every time they get a misleading event type on there pagers.

SA Firefighter General / Re: Birdwood QRV
« on: December 22, 2011, 07:59:41 PM »
As i have mentioned before, the 14 is far better suited to Birdwood than the QRV (my personal opinion is that a second heavy tanker would be more appropriate, however we will have to see how the 14 goes first, it may surprise us!!).

To my knowledge ex-Birdwood QRV is now a regional resource (much the same as Tanunda QRV) and although based from Mt Pleasant can be shifted anywhere at regions discretion...

I have no idea what went on at the state level, however there are some SFEC changes in the pipeline, as Birdwood and surrounding areas risks have increased substantially over the last 10 or so years.

Thanks mate. Thats the kind of stuff i am wondering. The local area down here has had a susbstantial increase in infrastructure, and yet the fire cover has remained in the form of a single rural/urban HT [current build 34] for years. Some background work has been done investigating applications for QRVs for plantation/vineyard firefighting plus other advantages at prangs, etc. Infrastructure is there in the form of a two bay station, we have a trailer we currently cant tow, etc, so was curious as to how a move like that is made to a brigade already sporting two HTs for a workload covered by some brigades with only one.

However, who really knows what goes on at a state level.

And as i said, still baffled as to how Birdwood [regardless of risk, which i agree is quite substantial but no differant really to our or any other Adelaide Hills area brigades area] can go from a single HT to a HT and a LT without an alteration to SFEC.

Mind you, look at some other stunning examples out there;
4 appliances at Carey Gully for an average of 40 calls a year.
A brand new 34P to Tarlee, who has 2 airsets, no HAZMAT or RCR, and only an average of 25 calls a year.
An HT and a QRV at Furner for an average 3 calls a year.

The list goes on and on.

Without meaning to just sound like im having a whinge, i would just like to know what thought process is put into appliance allocation statewide considering no substantial changes to SFECs have occured in years.

Does anyone have any inside info as to what thought/reasoning at a state fleet management level was behind the move from Birdwood to Mt Pleasant?

What paperwork may have been done?

How Birdwood managed to get an upgrade from a QRV to a LT? and presumably an adjustment to SFEC?

How Mt Pleasant managed to get there SFECs upgraded to include the QRV?

All completely honest and straight forward questions.

So I can keep dreaming about being actually able to tackle plantation and vineyard fires effectively and quickly?
Like you get them every day?

Hi mate.
No not every day. But if you look at the McLaren Flat response area, approx 90% of it is either vines or plantation.

Do areas covered by a rescue get a cutout every day?

Lol well outside his realm, heard over the radio he was trying to get lofty almighty team in before the 2nd alarm arrived.... Probably get Norton Summit, Summertown, Oakbank/Balhannah & Cudlee Creek in first....
Does anyone actually know what he was doing? I did see at one stage a page for a Salisbury MFS appliance added to this call, and if i recall even  Strathalbyn 34P?

It would appears that Strath was attached to the wrong job...a short time later, they were attached to the correct job - I think it was a prang at Strath...

Personally, nope...money could have been used for other things

As Pump said, like what?

Those who have any idea would realize Comcen desperately needs the extra staff. Those "43000" calls do not represent the entire workload. It would amaze some people to find out what other tasks Adelaide Fire conducts such as the CFS bushfire hotline, ALERT SA calls and the sheer volume of alarm maintenance and queries.

Alex if it was option A then clearly Option C also occurred.

True.

However, option B is unlikely to have occured.
