That is right with the process, I've looked the Regs up this week...everyone votes, lowest out, then re-vote if more than 1 left.

If the votes were shared, then the chair would have to cast..  :?

I thought that you could have as many aux as you wanted...maybe those who are not so active should be shunted to BA and off BF...then giving room for those who do want to be BF...we did this to our list recently..they are all still members ...and BA's CAN still be operational.

The only consideration I thought we had to worry about was the active BF's that are kitted out...in accordance with SOFC..I might be wrong.. :?

I know from my Sydney deployment experience that WHITE rules...they have red and orange..hard to tell the difference..they called us the White angels..

We've been white for a long time..if people can't realise that fire trucks are white too...we must do our jobs well and are unobtrusive...can be a good thing...and yes, white is better at night..

harder to keep clean though.. :-)

Sorry medevac, I agree with Mike..

it can be a boy's club situation...who's chummy with whom..and as it's been proven, those with the most training are NOT always the best person for the position..

We've just had to vote a GO out with a no confidence motion (approx 12mths ago) because he wasn't doing the right thing..and he had ALL the training possible.. :-o

We have 3 DGO's and need all of them as we have 15 brigades in our Group..

I'd agree it would be overkill for 3x DGO's for 5 or 6 brigades..  :-)

thankfully in my 19yrs of service, I've really only ever had trouble with 1 male..and he's such a chauvanistic pig that it wouldn't matter who you were..even the men have trouble with him.

It's refreshing to hear such acceptance in this forum of female ff and their abilities..I was the first (and only so far) female Capt on EP and have now been nominated for DGO at our next AGM - by my male peers.

We have good numbers of female ff but more importantly, they all contribute valuable skills and abilities to our service.

We are the same as Camo...we have all dirt to and from the station..it's very hard to keep the appliance clean..we've implemented a policy that if it's wet and muddy, take the truck for a run another day...no point in making it filthy!   :-D

We run with 4x lts and no seniors...I can't remember the last time we didn't have a lt or Capt attend...and we have most members with 15+ yrs experience...

I find have 4x lieus is the best system for me as Capt..

I agree with Pipster...if you don't have to see it..don't look..mind you the curious part of you will challenge your physical part.

I think that the SES handled that situation the best way possible...otherwise they would have many members tangled over the whole image.

I remember searching for a friend who had disappeared and we suspected that he'd taken his life...the anxiety associated with looking under every tree and rock expecting to find his body was enough...thankfully, we didn't find him, someone else did 6mths later. He was not far from where we were looking.

As far as I'm aware, they don't give out any medals in CFS for looking at dead bodies..

Unfortunately, there were probably too many firefighters exposed to viewing dead bodies during Black Tuesday..eg some had to hose them down because they were still alight..I can only imagine that these images haunt them all the time.

I've only had exposure to one fatal MVA and I made sure that my viewing was only limited...what I saw was bad enough as we all knew the person and it wasn't a pretty sight.

I agree with the theory of only exposing people to these images if they have to..it wouldn't toughen anyone up having to see this stuff...mind you SAPOL have a different mentality...they were forcing their probies to get right in at the MVA..

So, that would be more lies in the eyes of Wayne I suppose Rescue??

He needs to realise that sometimes it ends up being like chinese whispers and the message not always as it started!

I hope that the Forum proves to be constructive and some of THESE issues are addressed.

You can be as frustrated as you like Wayne but this information was given to me by someone from Adelaide...so, perhaps you should aim your frustrations at the right people.

I was asked last weekend but told that I would have to pay for my own way to get there..no probs but I won't be attending..thanks for the invite..a plane flight is anything up to $300 and it takes 7hrs to drive..

Perhaps they could consider having Regional forums first and then taking what comes from them to a State one..that way it should be the whole State's opinions and not just a small section.

It's easy for Rural guys to forget that they aren't in a paddock and there is traffic to consider sometimes too..

I agree with anything that creates uniformity...we can't even agree as to whether it should be blue or green..

over here we are big fans of green only..blue is for MFS as far as we are concerned..

I think if they said right...here's what you can have..have as much of as you like...with the star etc...and after that, it can't have the star...probably exactly what is happening now..  :|

I look at MFS and see how much better they look because they have such strict guidelines with what they wear...we just look like a bunch of misfits sometimes with a conglomerate of clothing...they have been talking about a deployment uniform since we went to Sydney in 2001..still nothing!

I think that if the restrictions were outlined and adhered to, the more we use it the greater our profile and identity.

We do seem to be losing some identity and definitely an issue like this can dent morale...it's very disappointing to hear that it was without discussion or consultation.

I think that the star is far more professional looking than the taxi logo...

I don't know if it's law for them to stop but it might be worth a call to a RO and ask...if someone speeds past an incident with lights going, you can report them...would it be any different.

Wouldn't look good to take out another vehicle on the way to an incident..

You also have to consider that some people panic when they see lights and sirens and honestly, don't know what to do..
and that unless you are close or directly in front of the appliance, it's hard to hear in your car..unless you have the windows down..

The potential for food poisoning during Black Tuesday resulted in eskies of food being chucked out because nobody knew how long they'd been there...

Imagine feeding everyone and then having them all end up in A & E with food poisoning...

I managed to find a ham and cheese sandwich that had been sitting on the dash of an appliance at 1530...I hadn't eaten since 0400 and I didn't care if it gave me food poisoning..it was food!

SES have an urn etc in one of their rescue appliances...we were very glad of a cuppa at 3 in the morning..and it was freezing cold..

We are supposed to carry ration packs that can sustain your crew for the first 6 hrs...ours struggles to be refilled...I often grab a box of shapes on my way out..

If it looks like its going to go any distance and it's been or coming up to a meal time..we start asking for sustainance early...

I agree with more females...especially as officers but they have to be the right people too..

We are miles in front of other states in relation to male vs female stuff and discrimination issues...

As a Capt of 8 years and experienced in IMT..I find that as a female, we are able to see things from a different perspective (most times good) and aren't clouded by egos (sorry boys).

We are having our AGM in August and my peers are pressing me to nominate for a DGO position.

This just proves that gender is not an issue (but can be)....I have no female mentors but my peers and mentors are great blokes.

I think that sometimes the problem begins with the person...behave how you want to be treated BUT remember that this is a male dominated and non traditional field.
