Its funny MFS changing channel to CFS as Bunnings is across the other side of the road and therefore out of area

MFS changing to A different channel because they go through the roundabout? I'd like to see that. They have been to calls well out of town and refused to change channels (sorry, reading through thread well after its al been written, and thinking of lots ofreplies..)

I'm sure most of you on SAFF that have job outside the service will agree that its not just captains who are getting bogged down with paper work. These days everyone is accountable for every minute thing that somehow relates to their job. Across the employment board it is becoming harder to find ppl for leadership positions. From  teaching background (im only a teacher by the way, not a principal), why would you want to be a principal? Little kid falls over and grazes his knee, parents come and sue you because you are principal and in charge (not quite that bad just yet) and unlike other leadership positions, the opportunities for incentives just arent there, company has a good year, heres a bonus. School has a good year, heres a finger painting from a 5 yea old. Yay!!!
Just as being principal has its emotional rewrds so would being a captain. It's certainly not the financial gain. I gues it justtakes a dedicate person who is willing to go above and beyond for their community

HAPPY VALLEY *STOP CALL*NOT REQUIRED MV24 IN ATTENDANCE-HV34 RETURNED - H/V STATION 11/02/2008 2:16:44 AM CFS Happy Valley Info

This is a genuine question and not taking a dig at happy valley... Why do they page each time that their trucks are returning? Obviously if it is just a stop call, then totally understand that. But often its a "returned to station". Wouldn't tha get frustrating for the members of HV to receive a message each time the trucks return to station? Can someone explain if there is a genuine reason behind this? Or is it just one of those things that some brigades do and others don't?

hand bag and shoes??

i reckon that one service is actually a top idea.
It would logistically be a nightmare, and getting it set up would cuase such a stink, but government mergers and consolidation of assets could see it happen.

"Hypothetically" Wouldnt it be funny if they said, right, were gonna go and build 200 new super stations (no idea how many would be needed...). We will fill these stations, with crew who are fully trained, and equipment that is suitable for all fire fighting. but we will also keep MFS and CFS going, but not take on any new members. Members can choose to swap to the Super Stations, or stay until eventually there is no more cfs or mfs and only our super stations.

Jees, can you imagine how flooded saff would become if that was even thought about. lol

hmmm, quality comment???

161
On face value you are probably right. that post looked awfully like i was saying captain shouldnt be in charge. Let me clarify. A captain from a brigade that is consistently second or third on scene should not try and assume responsibility over the incident and assume that because they are there, everyone else should bow down before them.
I hope this puts the statment in context. Chain of Command is important, Captains recognising and following that chain at a multi brigade/agency incident is also important...

162
Or having a captain who thinks he is boss at every call?

it took them two days to ring?
don't get me wrong, im probably the last person to stick up for the rights of a cat and all, but surely, after maybe 6 hours 12 hours 24 hours? you might think to ring if you couldnt do the rescue yourself?
Squirt the owner i say...

sometimes if brigades are pretty strict on trainings that members must attend, then footy twice a week, plus cfs, plus for me staff meetings once or twice a week, plus all the after hours stuff teachers are expected to do gets a bit much, and a decision needs to be made as to what gives. (When my knee gave, that was pretty easy option for no footy...)

But def in country areas you tend to get involved in stuff, so as to not be considered a hermit...

Hopefully there is a secondary alarm system that they are falling back on during this time??

Depending on which mining companies are up there the dirt in itself may be a hazmat job, what with the uranium scattered a metre underground?

Heard a story the other day about a hazmat job up north that was delayed for days because the truck contained acid that would eat through typical gear, and they needed to wait for specialist equipment from sydney to be flown in...

Well said.
The commaradery didn't get me into the CFS but it has sure kept me in it. Moving to a new town (and brigade) it's a great way to meet new people, and feel accepted (feeling accepted is one of our basic needs, yep right alongside food and water). I was talking to someone not from CFS and she said to me, it's almos like a secret society that anyone can join. Taking her point, she meant that you can travel along and meet members and fit into a community because of it. Which i have found is so true.

On the point of ego's, well i guess that has to do with the culture that has developed within brigades. If you are new and move into that environment, then you either embrace it or move on. A little friendly rivalry is great, but when people start getting narky and saying we are better than you, or how come you got called to that and not us, its not fair, thats where someone needs to step in and say, well enough is enough. thats not how this works...
