K55 - i believe the first issue was with a defective engine from Hino, replaced under warrantee??? The second issue was with the CAFS, whoever designed it failed to include the switchy thingo that enables you to select how dry the foam should be.... not sure what its called.... changes how much air enters the system.... now these issues are fixed its definitely a great little truck.... why CFS dont pick it up and use as a good urban/rural appliance is beyond me, would be much better to issue to adelaide hills brigades than these new gargantuan 34s and 34ps...

pumprescue - in my book, moores are definitely off the christmas list when it comes to pumps.... useless bunch of.... ;)

a decent set of REAL air horns will clear any road user...

Im pretty sure it doesnt matter, as far as im aware there is no real standard for boots... just a requirment for structure boots to be fitted with steel or reinforced toe caps...

Im also pretty sure some of the boys up at STC use the Haix Boots...

A classic example of them not all being FALSE eh

Also a classic example of someone ringing 000, and the fire service being responded anyway ;)

Except for the fact that barker had a two minute jump on it... im sure most people on here realise that 2 minutes can make a major differance.

Personally ive been to countless false alarms... ive also been to several AFAs that were going fires. The falsies are annoying, but its part of the job, get over it or get out.

Dont forget there are ways of dealing with alarms that are constantly malfunctioning... I think youll find though that most activate for a reason.

nomex is only level 1 until you introduce a liner...

a combination of PBI & nomex would not meet any standard at all, and asides from looking daft wouldnt achieve much i shouldnt think. i would be slightly concerned about it not filling the criteria of 'correct ppe' and the possible implications it would have on any workcover claims, oh/s issues, etc

K99 - yeh cheers mate....  :-P

Just saying, someone like this doesnt need encouragement, they need a reality check, and if he such a bad opinion of the MFS, perhaps he should try elsewhere.

and yet Bill, if your melting it, the fact remains that it shouldnt have been left there. Ive used plenty of differant kinds of hose and plenty of differant types of jobs.... havent melted a hose thus far.

however i have had hoses, both canvas & duraline/nylon blow for whatever reason...

the coulsons contract was only for a few months, the helitaks went home when it expired [after being extended once or twice...]

an aircrane is nice and dandy, and looks fantastic on the front page of the 'tiser or screaming across your telly at home on the 6 o'clock news...

but imagine if the same money for an aircrane contract, was spent on an extra 6 (i have been told it would work out to roughly) air tractors.... meaning the ability to station more aircraft on the LEP & LSE and another 2 'spares' in the MLR.

My dream would be;

4 Air Tractors on the LEP (currently 2)
4 Air Tractors in the LSE (currently 2), perhaps 2 at Naracoorte, 2 at Mt Gambier
6 Air Tractors in the MLR (currently 4 during the peak of the season), perhaps 4 at Woodside, 1 at Cherry & 1 at Mt Crawford...

Now that would make a much bigger differance than one aircrane that would struggle to work outside of the Adelaide Hills, due to fuel usage & water availability.

But ill just have to keep dreaming.

I think you have interpreted my message the wrong way...
I was in no way saying you shouldnt discuss this issue, i was simply giving you some friendly advice not to bag staff members after making it obvious that you are Dave from the State Ops brigade...... but.... D'uuuuhhhh......

Dave,

you have made it extremely obvious who you are, and your username gives the appearance that you represent the entire brigade...

i would be extremely careful as to what i was saying if i was you....

anyway just a friendly word of advice, take it or leave it mate ;)

crew mobiles in pumper, crew of 6, 3 BA.

arrive and after liasing with owner to establish the report of persons up stairs, disconnect power to premises.

2 BA operators to start up and enter, with the one other left outside donned.

BA operators stick there head in the dryer room, does not appear to be a significant incident, some smoke, the crew head straight up stairs and evacuate persons

after removing persons stretch a hose line in, remove dryer from wall and disconnect. check for extension into wall cavity using appropriate tools and extinguish if necessary...

request TIC to check for heat in wall cavity.

stop call other brigade and complete overhaul.

is there in fact anything wrong with the workcover payments to geoff at all?

or is CFS just setting a dangerous precedent by setting up thuis foundation?

will they do the same every time such a tragedy may occur?

SA Firefighter General / Re: State CFS Talkgroups etc
« on: September 17, 2007, 04:07:21 PM »
just one thing..

if we go to ONE talkgroup for acknowledgements and mobilisations of resources.. then what happens when everyone statewide is monitoring it and we start to get some action... first few transmissions, and every tower statewide will load up and crash the system.

wasnt this one of the problems that came out of the wangary fires?
