SA Firefighter General / Re: Hydraulic couplings changeover
« on: March 28, 2011, 03:26:24 PM »
We see it as a nice thing to have not a need, but we have alot of issues with our couplings leaking while the pump runs, and for some reason even when pt look at it it still does it. ( and yes i know they are a wet coupling but not that wet ).
We fundraise and get alot of grants within our brigade so we see it as a reasonable investment if we can get a community group to donate the money for it.
We are in the process of buying stabfast at the moment from a donation we recieved.

Wow...

Why would you not get ALL of the couplings changed over at once? Yes it might cost a little bit more, but isn't the point that you then have a system that you can do anything with?

My point exactly, we only have 2x10m lines for ours and if we dont get the pump done thats what we are limited to is those, bit if we get the pump done as well then if the need arises and i am sure it will one day we can run a single 20m line!!

Especially if you have the money for it why not get it done

i have heard a new tender is currently underway for quite a few new sets. supposedly replacing a lot of the sets purchased in 2000?

have any of the brigades out there who have had the retro fit done to the new coupling had the pump done as well or just kept the old system on the pump...
We are looking at getting ours done but seems a waste not to do the pump as it restricts us to twin 10m lines.  The ability to be able to have a single 20m line may come in handy although not very often?

SAMFS / Re: Gawler covering Kapunda

Gawler are being responded on the intitial page with both kapunda services to make up for crewing shortfalls within the town,, they are responded because they garantee a crew no matter the circumstance where as other cfs stations or even retained mfs stations who maybe closer will still not garantee a crew

Fully agree to shorten the data in the pager messages. Even the use of RESPOND and date/time (unless it reflects when the call was received) is a waste. The pager has a date/time that the page was received separately.

One of the issues is a group of people from different organisations agreeing to a correct format that satisfies the database requirements that is fed from this pager data, as well as what is displayed on different types of pagers/MCT

That agreement would be difficult.

How do SAAS get the pager messages so short ?

All they need is the unit being called the category of the job  and the address all other details are given via radio

Maybe thats the factory settings and they just dont bother to flip the switch when they are installed??

I have found hyper yelp to be reasonably effective, hard to judge if its more effective than "normal" siren tones.

And as for the sirens in the new 34's they are shocking compared to the code 3,, seem very cheap.

Require up to 10 persons per brigade to respond salisbury station to go to Stockport for evacuation and salvage busleaving shortly from Group Officer

Thats ALOT of members per brigade to commit to that...

FP 76 are based out of Mt Barker, they were mainly brought in to lighten the transfer load out of Strathalbyn and the rest of the Flurieu region, however they are often tasked with covering Strathalbyn for shifts due to no local crews being available and they also often cover Goolwa if no local vollie crew is available or if Victor 126 or 76 are unavailable to sit there.

i have only ever once had radiator issues but that was from driving through reeds 7ft hight that had been burnt,, however the problem we have had with our previous 2005 isuzu 34 and now with our 2009 isuzu 34 was when the air filters became too clogged not enough air was able to get into the engine and it went into "safe" mode and basically shut down the turbo and alot of the trucks power..

the newer 34, only the check engine light has come on, on the dash however the older 34 had the turbo issues, once the air filter was cleaned on both trucks the issue was then gone.
