SAMFS / Re: Busy Hour
« on: January 30, 2006, 08:24:04 AM »
It depends on the job

2 Alarm could be 2 or more appliances
If the job was a 2 alarm rubbish fire it might be 2 appliances
If it was a  2 Alarm at a Hospital it could be 6 appliances for a 2 alarm.
The resson for this is a fire alarm at a Hospital could be 3 appliance to start with.
It just depends on the risk

The cab is a good place to cool down when you get time to have a break. We used this on Black Tuesday to give they guys a break eg have a drink in a nice cool cab

can't see anything wrong with the appliance in this picture   - - WTF

it might be the picture but I would not like to be on the back of the appliance.
Accident waiting to happen.
If you think that is safe you need some training or leave before you hurt someone

SA Firefighter General / Quality of food
« on: January 25, 2006, 07:21:46 AM »
I have noticed that the quality of food at fires has gone downhill.
At the Willunga fire lots of people complained about the food. When you have busted your bum for the day or night you would expect to get feed well.
In this day and age when it is hard to keep members you think they would feed you well.

I have been told for the last 20 years, we are going to have the big one.

It might happen this year or next or 20 years.

PS - Just about every year has started the same
eg hot, Father Christmas, new years , hot, hot etc

I have been to lots of jobs when we have been called later.
I have also been to jobs where we have been first and a few times you think I wish the Ambo's we here now, sometimes you can only do the basics and 5 minutes is for ever

With all the small and big problems with new appliances I think it is a good idea to keep the old appliance for a while if possible.
can't see the problem

SA Firefighter General / Weather is out, late summer
« on: January 13, 2006, 07:25:34 AM »
I have noticed over the last few years the weather is  about a month and half out (late summer again)
At my place we get strong winds at night and early morning in November and the tree drops bark and leaves all over the place. I have noticed that this has started to have in January.
I was speaking to a mate at Pt August and he said the wind were late up that way.
What do others think about the weather being late

Belair new 34p is replacing the pumper, they just have the pumper while they are training and testing the new 34p. Also in case they have any problems that might need to be fixed with the new 34p. They have allready had a fuel gage problem

Another case of MFS wanna be's..... Why shouldn't we then just give all those stations that do, say 120+ calls a year to the MFS. Why should vollies be so put out attending that many calls. This is the real world we live in....
I am in the CFS because I enjoy the work and the people, yes my brigades does 250 plus calls. I don't think that Urban Fire Brigades Are Better...
I don't fell put out because we attened lots of calls and I am not a MFS wanna be's.....
But I think we could also learn from SOME of the things that the MFS do.
Yes I would love a flash station, but that is life

Country Fire Service / Re: Back burning
« on: January 05, 2006, 10:22:34 AM »
yes back burning is a good idea, but in NSW a lot of the fires they have go for 3 plus days and the area they have fires is very different to us. Most of our fires are quick and only for a day, note I said MOST.
The Black Tueday fires were quick and most of the next few days after the fire was mopping up.

We duty drivers for Saturday nights, fire ban days and public holidays.
We have duty crews for events and use crewing system for different trucks.

I was listening to the scanner today and a group got a stop call for a strike team and the DGO came back and said ok, but we were not responded for a strike team. This is the second time this has happened, lets hope they can get it together before someone is hurt

SA Firefighter General / Re: Responding to Incidents
« on: December 14, 2005, 12:53:11 PM »
We have had GO respond to small jobs to get to see how we do things ie can we do better, I have no problem with this ( they sit back and just observe)
and other times when they are new to the position and want to see how other brigades work.
This only happened for a short time, all was fine.
But going to every call with no real reason who be a problem
